In my days at NASA I heard quite a lot of talk about global warming,

I might have missed it – did he say a cost per unit? Dude. Imagine the look on Achmed’s face when a platoon of Marine’s wearing those show up.

Forget the “surge.” Just buy a few thousand suits. Come on, Dubya. Canadian technology and American ingenuity ought to be able to finish off Osama by lunch time. Off set the costs by selling action figures.

Point 1: The earth IS warming up. This is not in dispute. The planet has been slowly warming since the peak of the little ice age in the 1600′s.

Point 2: The real debate is not if global warming is taking place, but WHY global warming is taking place. The Global warming nutroots insist it’s because of man’s activity but that is virtually impossible to prove and we all know that correlation =/= causality. On the other side, it’s rather foolish to say that man has no effect on the environment and is incapable of affecting large global systems. The dust bowl, for example, was largely a man-made event and there are other examples throughout history where people have screwed themselves by mucking up local and regional ecosystems.

So who’s ultimately right? It’s probably a bit of both. The earth would be warming anyway if there were no people here, but it’s certainly a reasonable argument to suggest we are having some effect. The question then becomes – what is the best course of action? Over time we should move away from fossil fuels for strategic reasons, if nothing else, but the global economy could not handle the shock of implementing something like Kyoto.

Point 3: Some commenters here have talked about the snow in Colorado or the cold weather or whatever as proof that Global Warming does not exist. Global warming is defined as an increase in the average temperature planet-wide. That kind of global change will have different regional effects and no one should assume that every spot on the planet will get demonstrably warmer.

Anyway, we need more science and maybe we need to light off a few hundred nukes. Remember nuclear winter?

So, what is the perilous, apocalyptic, doomsday scenario I should be worried about this decade?

There is a 600-700 year cycle around the world for global warming. Look back at the time of the plague in the 1300′s which was made exponentially worse because of the extreme drought and 600 years before that. The climate is cyclical and has many reasons for warming and cooling from way before exhaust .

It’s so obvious the whole global warming ’science’ is a fabricated attack on the American economy. By the anti-American U.N. block. Do you trust the U.N.? Al Gore? Ted Turner?

Being obvious is one thing; but people are so ready to believe it. Real, actual, global fascism is coming in the name of global warming. Then, when the system cools again (as it always does), it will only cement that such harsh measures were needed and will always be needed.
