[...] Well now, add this to the Goreacle’s resumé: he doesn’t think China should have to curb emissions until America does. From Allahpundit: He had two options. Take his own global-warming platform seriously by encouraging all countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as expeditiously as they can? Or work a nonsensical wealth-based double standard in there to thrill and delight “the international community”? Environmentalist or leftist? Choices, choices. Emerging economies such as China are justified in holding back on fighting greenhouse gas emissions until richer polluters like the United States do more to solve the problem, former Vice President Al Gore said Wednesday… Chinese officials said they would act after industrial countries such as the United States and others make changes themselves, Gore said, addressing a conference in Madrid on global warming. “They’re right in saying that. But we have to act quickly,” said Gore, who was nominated last week for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in drawing attention to global warming. “China’s reaction to the scientific report last week was disappointing, but it was instructive,” Gore said.
[...] As always when it comes to this subject, a western nation is asked to do its part even though it’s not the main cause of the problem and there’s no reason to believe other nations are similarly restraining themselves.
[...] Like Glenn says, this looks worse than it probably is. As far as I know, Gore isn’t such a deep shade of green that he opposes industrial development root and branch for fear of what it will do to our polar bear brothers. On the contrary: he’s content to have countries not named “America” belching carbon into the atmosphere by the assload. For him, as for almost all leftists, the problem (and solution) begins at home — just so long as it’s not his home. That’s the real source of righty irritation here, plus the fact that he’s such an abrasive, hectoring tool that we can’t resist tormenting him. Until we’ve got him riding bicycles to his fundraisers and churning his own butter, he shall be dubbed Hypocrite with a capital H. And it shall be sweet. [...]

Does anyone have the link to the study's, the scientific studies of proof that CO2 causes the greenhouse effect. It is my understanding that no such proof exists. It was written about and then adopted as truth, but no one has proved it. So far all of the indications show an increase in CO2, historically, does not relate to warmer climate. Sometimes it did, and sometimes it didn't.

Another question: Where in Gore’s education or career gives him any qualifications to spout off on climatology?

He has a Harvard Divinity degree. What is Eco-Leftism if not a faith-based religion?

What exactly is the penalty for putting a large portion of the planet's population into fear and hyseria just for political gains, basing it on junk science, that the one person making the claim, who has no understanding, basis, or clue of what he is talking about?

Does Al Gore even know that there is an enormous ball of hydrogen gas, under immense pressure a Star called our "Sun" exists in our Solar System, and what it's effects has on our daily life?

Mr. Gore.... it is my opinion that your statments today will go down in history........ just maybe, not the way you wanted them to,

If he REALLY wanted to thwart worldwide pollution, Mr. Gore would put forth a resolution saying the US will no longer import products from countries that aren’t environmentally responsible…

NTWR on February 8, 2007 at 5:50 PM

A brilliant assessment! If Algore really loves China so much, perhaps he should just move there and make his bond with the Chi-coms complete. What on earth would we have done had this man been elected president in 2000?

Algore would really get more mileage out of his arguments if he would be more positive in his presentations, don't you think? I'd personally be much more inclined to do something in response to "You can help our environment by doing x, y, and z," within reason, as opposed to the windy, hypocritical, and condescending statements that he belches now. If, in 2000, he'd thrown his name and his clout to seeking and securing legitimate solutions and then advertising them, he'd surely have our nation exceeding that discriminatory Protocol's standards by now, White House or not, ratification or not.

Oh, wait... I almost forgot. He's a liberal. Such a plan would require disavowing socialism in favor of trying to work with the private sector. He'd never go for that.

That’s silly. More to the point, taking your limo to a protest in Santa Cruz is way, way better than flying to Beijing. It’s dirty, crowded, and they might eat your dog. Plus, the pollution is horrible.

I stopped the contest after this one.

TKO over a surprising honora (whose cheap shot a la Mexico v Clinton/Gore comes on the heals of yet another bitterly painful soccer loss to the gringos in Glendale - USA! USA!).

TKO over a surprising honora (whose cheap shot a la Mexico v Clinton/Gore comes on the heals of yet another bitterly painful soccer loss to the gringos in Glendale – USA! USA!).

How about the Kyoto protocol makes demands of China, just like the US, and then they can decide, just like us, whether they want to abide by them or not. The first step is to actually make demands of China. Of course, as I understand it, the Chinese were a gracious donor to the Clinton-Gore election machine......

Wait… America is not doing enough??? What the heck am I paying an extra 20 cents a gallon for air entrained fuel for, then? Why do I have the burden of taking my car to be smogged and then proving it to the gov’t before it can be legally registered or sold? What are those damn catalytic converters doing in cars? What the heck was up with MTBE being forced into the gas (and water) supply here in California? Why do I get tax deductions for buying “energy star” appliances?

If he REALLY wanted to thwart worldwide pollution, Mr. Gore would put forth a resolution saying the US will no longer import products from countries that aren’t environmentally responsible…

This makes sense. Get the U.N. on this message. Kofi himself should be revived to spread this good word. Al... Sell your giant SUVs and buy a Prius.

Oh, and before anybody (like Honora) goes off spouting how S.Res.98 was part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, take a closer look at the author of the resolution, which made it through unamended. It was Robert Byrd (D-WV)

Is there anyone who has a reference point for that resolution?

Labamigo on February 8, 2007 at 4:53 PM

Ask and ye shall have found. That would be Senate Resolution 98, from the 1st Session of the 105th Congress. The vote on July 25, 1997 was 95-0. From the text of the approved resolution:

Resolved, That it is the sense of the Senate that--

(1) the United States should not be a signatory to any protocol to, or other agreement regarding, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change of 1992, at negotiations in Kyoto in December 1997, or thereafter, which would--

(A) mandate new commitments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the Annex I Parties, unless the protocol or other agreement also mandates new specific scheduled commitments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions for Developing Country Parties within the same compliance period,....

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Many leftists put a higher value on their world citizenship than their US citizenship. Al Gore is one of them.

But, whatever you do, don't question their patriotism.
