A brilliant assessment! If Algore really loves China so much, perhaps he should just move there and make his bond with the Chi-coms complete. What on earth would we have done had this man been elected president in 2000?

Algore would really get more mileage out of his arguments if he would be more positive in his presentations, don’t you think? I’d personally be much more inclined to do something in response to “You can help our environment by doing x, y, and z,” within reason, as opposed to the windy, hypocritical, and condescending statements that he belches now. If, in 2000, he’d thrown his name and his clout to seeking and securing legitimate solutions and then advertising them, he’d surely have our nation exceeding that discriminatory Protocol’s standards by now, White House or not, ratification or not.

Oh, wait… I almost forgot. He’s a liberal. Such a plan would require disavowing socialism in favor of trying to work with the private sector. He’d never go for that.

That’s silly. More to the point, taking your limo to a protest in Santa Cruz is way, way better than flying to Beijing. It’s dirty, crowded, and they might eat your dog. Plus, the pollution is horrible.

Wait… America is not doing enough??? What the heck am I paying an extra 20 cents a gallon for air entrained fuel for, then? Why do I have the burden of taking my car to be smogged and then proving it to the gov’t before it can be legally registered or sold? What are those damn catalytic converters doing in cars? What the heck was up with MTBE being forced into the gas (and water) supply here in California? Why do I get tax deductions for buying “energy star” appliances?

Ask and ye shall have found. That would be Senate Resolution 98, from the 1st Session of the 105th Congress. The vote on July 25, 1997 was 95-0. From the text of the approved resolution:

Resolved, That it is the sense of the Senate that–

(1) the United States should not be a signatory to any protocol to, or other agreement regarding, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change of 1992, at negotiations in Kyoto in December 1997, or thereafter, which would–

(A) mandate new commitments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the Annex I Parties, unless the protocol or other agreement also mandates new specific scheduled commitments to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions for Developing Country Parties within the same compliance period,….
