Nice job. No graphic for Afghanistan, though, huh? Or one showing what Iraq would look like if we pull out?

Obviously, the first and only duty of the media is to report in as many different ways as possible the number of deaths in Iraq.

There is no cause or case to report on the war, the politics, the government, or the society of Iraq. Just deaths. Becuase in the end, its only about how many people are killed right? There is no other issue to deal with in Iraq.

Vincenzo on February 4, 2007 at 12:18 PM

How thoughtful of the graphic artist to have ‘civilian’=mother w/child. Nothing subliminal about that.

Now I want NYT to do the same graphic of Cambodia/Viet Nam
May 75-May 76….just for a little perspective ya know.

Limerick on February 4, 2007 at 12:20 PM

Where’s Saddam’s mass-grave graphic in there?

JetBoy on February 4, 2007 at 12:31 PM

the similarities between the commie protestors and the NYT are kind of interesting.

Where were the protests or the graphics or the op-ed pieces when Saddam was in power?

Agenda. Can you say it with me kids? I knew you could.

Prediction: Alicia Cheng will win a special Pulitzer Prize for this incredibly convoluted and difficult to read chart.

ScottMcC on February 4, 2007 at 12:39 PM

I think those brain dead leftist fools would prefer that we give up and yield to world terrorism. I wonder what their Op Eds will say when terrorism rules the world? At this point they are convincing no one, they’re simply preaching to their own kind.

rplat on February 4, 2007 at 12:40 PM

I still think someone should do a chart on DC.

To quote Coulter: When are we going to pull out of that quagmire?

One Angry Christian on February 4, 2007 at 12:43 PM

ADRIANA LINS de ALBUQUERQUE and ALICIA CHENG – terrorist dupes.

Where’s the chart of dead journalists in Iraq?
After all, they ARE being targeted, ya’ know.

CyberCipher on February 4, 2007 at 12:49 PM

Iraq is as bad as it is because Iran has a vested interest in seeing our efforts there fail, the NYT has a vested interest in seeing George W. Bush and the Republicans fail and the American people at large have very little clue what’s going on.

spmat on February 4, 2007 at 12:50 PM

The goal of the MSM, especially the New York Times is to ensure the defeat of the United States of America in Iraq and Afghanistan and to make sure that not only that the Congress remains in Democratic Party hands but that the White House follows. And, like them, WE are preaching to our own choir here at H/A. But our choir sings songs of life and a glowing future. Theirs sings of death, destruction, and enslavement.

georgej on February 4, 2007 at 12:54 PM

I think the map supports bushes plan to add troops to Baghdad.

Or one showing what Iraq would look like if we pull out?

It would be black and the democrats (and unfortunately some republicans) would blame bush instead of themselves for taking every chance they could to undermine the war before strategic withdraw cutting and running. And let’s not forget the media, who have spent the last 6 years cheerleading for anyone who opposes Bush.

ADRIANA LINS de ALBUQUERQUE and ALICIA CHENG -

If they worked for me. I’d fire the both of them for an absolute waste of time. What a rag POS.

Or how about a chart depicting World War II?

Guardian on February 4, 2007 at 1:18 PM

How are terrorists noted? Are they mommies holding babies too? the graphic reminds me of death race 2000, actually.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Race_2000

Male adult: 20
Male teenager: 40
Male infant/toddler: 70
Female (any age): +10 point bonus
Senior citizen (regardless of gender): 100

lorien1973 on February 4, 2007 at 1:50 PM

Democracy can never be born if the military is forced to pull out. I dare someone to make a graphic of that one!

MirCat on February 4, 2007 at 2:10 PM

I still think someone should do a chart on DC.

It was recently reported – mostly on blogs, since this doesn’t fit the MSM storyline – that the violent death rate in New Orleans is actually higher than in Iraq.

Laura on February 4, 2007 at 3:24 PM

On reflection, anyone else think that map looks like a Risk board?

spmat on February 4, 2007 at 3:41 PM

Where’s the chart of dead journalists in Iraq?
After all, they ARE being targeted, ya’ know.

Check here: http://www.ifj.org/pdfs/JournalistsKilled2007finalweb.pdf

The International Federation of Journalists reports that of the 155 journalists and media workers killed in 2006, 69 (nearly half) were killed in Iraq. Seven were apparently just in the wrong place at the wrong time; in the rest of the cases the murderers knew who they were killing. Often the journalists had received threats and/or had been kidnapped before being killed.

So yes, while the notion that the Americans are targeting journalists is crap, journalists are being killed because of what they are writing. This is no joke.

Here’s another “helpful” graphic (and much easier to read):

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=NYT&t=5y

The 5-year chart of the New York Times’ stock price. Booosh.

Dave Shay on February 4, 2007 at 5:03 PM

They should have at least made a few of the civilian graphics holding AK-47′s and wearing explosive vests, because you know that some of them are terrorist. There was, conspicuously, no terrorist graphic.

DaveS on February 4, 2007 at 5:06 PM

Nonetheless, it is our effort to visually depict the continuing human cost of the Iraq war.

Nice try, NYT. In reality, it is your effort to undermine the Bush administration and our military forces on the ground.

thedecider on February 4, 2007 at 5:08 PM

Apparently civil war is only happening in central Iraq.

Seixon on February 4, 2007 at 5:12 PM

Well, since none of them have their heads covered they were just asking for it.

ronsfi on February 4, 2007 at 7:35 PM

has a militia or death squad member ever been killed in iraq, or is that part of what the woman and child icon is supposed to represent?

jummy on February 4, 2007 at 7:55 PM

Is the count on the chart correct?

Woman and child equals two deaths.

As noted above, which woman and child actually represents a terrorist, insurgent, Baathist, Madhi Army member, etc., etc.?

slp on February 4, 2007 at 8:54 PM

How about one for Washington D.C. or LA County in California?

Neo on February 4, 2007 at 9:12 PM

I thought it was a “You Are Here” map showing where all the restrooms in Iraq are.

Coyote D. on February 5, 2007 at 12:32 AM

How come the women aren’t covered from head to toe in that diagram?… its making me get violent inclinations …. *twitching*

VinceP1974 on February 5, 2007 at 1:31 AM

That graphic wouldn’t be allowed in Australia, it would just prove that all the women are inviting rape.

And how about a side-by-side comparing that chart with the civilian deaths each year under Saddam. The current chart would have to be shrunk beyond legibility to make room for all the innocents slain by the Hussein regime.

While we’re at it, let’s do a chart showing the murders and automobile deaths of innocent Americans at the hands of illegal immigrants.

Freelancer on February 5, 2007 at 1:40 AM

Maybe the could do Ukraine in the ’30s. Nah. Too anti-socialist.

How bout the Kent State one? Yeah. That’s more like it!!

Cmon Dave, You know we only like to kill innocent people, preferably women and children. (sarcasm off….for now)

VikingGoneWild on February 5, 2007 at 8:36 AM

How about a graphic showing where the loss of readership is for the NYT?

right2bright on February 5, 2007 at 11:31 AM

I believe this is the sort of occasion for which the expression “kill the messenger” is meant. Perhaps the WH/Pentagon can figure out a way to forbid this type of reporting, as they have squashed any photos of returning troops in coffins. ‘Cause, it’s like, you know, upsetting.

What a bunch of pussies. I am sick to death of people on one hand talking a big game but in reality not having the fortitude to face the costs.

Came across a interesting data point the other day: during the Second World War 10% of the population was in uniform. Now it’s less than 1%. Which is perhaps why people no longer have the stomach to look at the wages of war, it’s far easier to ignore and fool ourselves that dime store patriotism (hey, I have a yellow “support the troops” magnet on my car! It’s not like I haven’t sacrifice….)

Lightweights.
