So, rather than call him an A-hole, I’ll merely state that the piece he did was not very good, he can’t sing, (has not talent as a vocalist), the lyrics were weird, the piece was not musical, and … to borrow the words of at least one other person who posts here at hotair.com “Can I have the last 4 minutes and 5 seconds of my life that I lost watching this piece of crap “video” from Randy Newman back?

Now I must balance that non-musical, foul piece of crap with a nice song sung live by a couple who sing very well.

I’ve always enjoyed his humor and his music, but his self-loathing American Jew schtick really is pathetic, especially the “I’m down with the struggle” bit. It’s easy to laugh at his nasal voice and weird, contrived southerner dialect; it always reminds me of Jesse Jackson, trying to sound like something he’s not.

What’s ironic about Newman’s knee jerk slams at America is that while he undoubtedly is a talented songwriter and composer (the soundtrack to The Natural is fabulous) he didn’t exactly go from rags to riches. Randy Newman was tremendously connected in the music business. His uncle Alfred was an Academy Award winning composer in high demand in Hollywood as both a scorer of soundtracks and a studio conductor.

There’s a lyric in one of his songs about his southern Jewish relatives being embarrassed to be Jews. I suppose the same would apply to Newman as an American.

If I stare at the screen long enough will I eventually hear the defense of our country? Please advise because I have other things to do.
