Good for him!

Isn’t true love beautiful.

oakpack on February 2, 2007 at 8:58 AM

God Bless Him.

amerpundit on February 2, 2007 at 8:59 AM

Thanks Ian. A Great Opening to the day.

amerpundit on February 2, 2007 at 8:59 AM

I saw that on t.v. the other night. I’m sure he made his wife very happy – she was a lucky woman. God bless him.

Aside from this guy, I am getting tired of “tragic” stories from these people auditioning. I think people should just tell them about themselves, whether they believe they can sing and just sing. Then if they make it to Hollywood or even further, then tell the tearjerker story. This guy is different, but I am just tired of it in general.

JVelez on February 2, 2007 at 9:18 AM

Tough guys don’t cry?….Well this one just did!

soulsirkus on February 2, 2007 at 9:23 AM

That was the only worthwhile event that has EVER happened on that absolutely assinine show.

csdeven on February 2, 2007 at 9:30 AM

Thanks for making my mascara run Ian!!

maintenanceman on February 2, 2007 at 9:36 AM

I never watch that stupid show.

JackM on February 2, 2007 at 9:56 AM

awww

jummy on February 2, 2007 at 10:05 AM

…well at least he didn’t show up with his belly and back fat hanging out of his spandex pants and shirt.

What is up with that look this year on AI? Note to chubby girls, unless you look like this, leave the spanex at home.

Alden Pyle on February 2, 2007 at 10:08 AM

I just want to say that this “Jack M.” is not the one who posted above.

Good story Ian. Strikes a little too close to home for me, but an inspirational way to start the day anyway.

Jack M. on February 2, 2007 at 10:11 AM

Thanks Ian. Great story. I’m not an “idol” watcher or fan, but I think it just justfied it’s existence to me for the season with that clip. Wow.

Planet Boulder on February 2, 2007 at 10:46 AM

I guess AI had to air something like that to combat the charges of them being so mean-spirited.

asc85 on February 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM

This was great.

TheThink on February 2, 2007 at 11:01 AM

Take that you fat arse, Rosie! Your show could never pull that off.

I hope one of the finalists does a tribute and performs the song. It would be a smart move.

Editor on February 2, 2007 at 11:03 AM

and the ironic thing was, he was a better singer then half of the contestants they sent to Hollywood.

TexasRainmaker on February 2, 2007 at 11:06 AM

I never watch that stupid show.

JackM on February 2, 2007 at 9:56 AM

Ditto

brtex on February 2, 2007 at 11:12 AM

How many people here are constantly bombarded by the groupies who watch this show extolling the hugeness of the coolness of it? I have told people in my family that I NEVER watch that stupid show, but EVERY SINGLE WEEK they ask me if I watched “idol” last night.

I swear, these people have no life.

csdeven on February 2, 2007 at 11:23 AM

He has a nice voice.

Valiant on February 2, 2007 at 11:26 AM

He does a good Dino. Cheers to you, sir!

spmat on February 2, 2007 at 11:43 AM

Bet he makes a “cameo” appearance sometime later, he was awesome. And for the ones who do not watch, that is fine, but you missed a great tribute to a loved one. He showed a lot of people what a real man is.

right2bright on February 2, 2007 at 1:40 PM

American Brittle (Bones)

Jim Treacher on February 2, 2007 at 1:44 PM

American Idol is not worth my time. The song the gentleman sang was originally performed by Doreen Terry.Didnt think anyone listened to anything on 78′s anymore.

spazzmomma on February 2, 2007 at 2:12 PM

I too, have never seen the show. It does seem to expose how many extremely low IQ people can be entertained with this garbage. appologies to the 4 or 5 hi IQ folks that have to watch it with their loved one or something.

Whats wrong w/ 64 year olds? Is there an age limit for the contestants? ( i really don’t know)

shooter on February 2, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Wow, this guy can sing. A tragedy of a story, but a good message here. Shame he isn’t 36 years younger, he would make a good contestant.

CR UVa on February 2, 2007 at 3:01 PM

Ms. Paula Abdul, will you marry me?

shooter on February 2, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Abdul is a hot babe, but I gave up on drunk hot babes a long time ago.

dingoatemebaby on February 2, 2007 at 4:31 PM

Yeah, I think the age limit is 28 or something.

Ian on February 2, 2007 at 5:57 PM

I confess to cringing in fear that, despite the incredibly touching story, the poor man was going to royally bugger something up (by being royally off key or something else equally petty) and get eaten alive. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that, not only does he have a fine voice but that the judges were very receptive and took the audition in the spirit in which it was intended. Bravo for all concerned!

And I have to add that this show is INCREDIBLY popular during deployments, if only for the comedic value of watching idiots make fools of themselves. The desert is a pretty dull place during both of the hours you have off…

Militant Bibliophile on February 2, 2007 at 8:47 PM

This clip is not about American Idol. It’s about a dream and loss and a tribute. I thought it was magical. I loved the song and I loved his voice. He is a winner.

Glynn on February 2, 2007 at 10:36 PM

He’s a man. In every sense of the word.
