“The Iraqis have not so much attacked U.S. positions as impaled themselves on them.” [Col. William Grimsley, commander, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division]

Heh. Remember Baghdad Bob?

"I can say, and I am responsible for what I am saying, that they have started to commit suicide under the walls of Baghdad. We will encourage them to commit more suicides quickly."

Anybody seen old Bob lately?

The bravery of the men and women of Iraq is truly amazing.

We read stories about how they brave death in going about their daily lives, heedless of the suicide bombers. We read about how they defied Al Qaeda and the Sunni terrorists to vote, not once but 3 times. We read stories about how no matter how many police, or police recruits are killed by the terrorists, the next day the lines signing up are just as long as the day before.

But there are other stories of brave Iraqi men that are not as well known. The Iraqi soldiers (including the "Republican Guard") were not stupid men. They knew that in facing the United States Army and Marines, that even though they out numbered us, that we would kill thousands with little loss to ourselves. And yet the still tried to fight us; us, the most lethal armed forces in history.

I don't have the source of these quotes anymore (I did at one time, but I lost the URL for them). But read what OUR soldiers said about theirs back in 2003.

"The Iraqis have not so much attacked U.S. positions as impaled themselves on them." [Col. William Grimsley, commander, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division]

"The trucks would just drive pell-mell down the road at us, 60 miles an hour, until they would get shot, and then any guys that were left would jump out of the trucks and rush at us with RPGs, trying to get in their shots," Oliver recalled. "The issue became one of dismounts [foot soldiers] vs. armored vehicles. . . . They would fire their RPGs at the Bradleys. And we would kill them." [Maj. Mike Oliver, Operations Officer, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division]

So, should we be so surprised when an Iraqi man decides to stop a suicide bomber the only way he knows he can? By hugging him to absorb the blast?

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

And we don't even know his name.

May his God grant him his heaven; his sweet date trees, his cool water, his virgins, and eternal happiness. Blessed be his memory.

It's working now. I was able to read, listen, and reflect on how incredible human nature is, both good and evil.

How can someone not understand that each exists among us?

And I will not forgive the terrorist, who can never be referred to as a human.

Synopsis from the best of memory: A terrorist with a bomb belt is heading toward a village mosque disguised as a woman. An alert villager sees that he is a fake and recognizes what is about to happen. Because he has no weapon and there isn't even time to sound a warning, he just rushes up and wraps his arms around the terrorist. They are both killed in the blast and a couple of children are injured by flying ball bearings, but all the worshipers in the mosque are spared.

Big deal, John Kerry jumped on seventeen grenades on twenty seven different occasions back in 'nam, saving the lives of hundreds of baby killing rapist mercenaries and helped an old lady cross the street earning forty seven purple hearts in the process. Beat that random iraqi dude.

But apparently no journalists visited the village to find out what really happened and what it tells us about the people who live here.

Yeah........ it's just a civil war.

God Bless and Welcome that brave man, and please comfort and keep his children safe.
