Video: Biden manages to avoid saying anything overtly racist on “The Daily Show”

That actually qualifies as news at this point, doesn’t it?

I’m behind schedule this morning because of the Arkin audio editing but here’s a nice bit o’ filler from last night’s TDS. Stewart benefited from some serendipitous scheduling and Biden benefited from the opportunity to lavish praise on bright, clean, articulate, nice-looking Barack Obama in front of a national audience. Congrats to Joe for resisting the urge to describe him as “affable.”

The New York Times’s take on this jawdropping display of racism from a prominent Democrat: “Oops!”

So, Biden calls Obama “the first mainstream African-American” to be articulate, bright and clean, and gets a coddling from the Times. Sounds about right, since he’s a lefty and all. I like how he defends himself by telling reporters to call Obama because, “He knows what I meant.” He forgot to add the customary, “I have black friends” plea.

Biden NOT being racial in his words, IS NEWS!

That actually qualifies as news at this point, doesn’t it?

.
My thoughts exactly.
.
How long can he go?
Pool anyone? 3 days is my guess. By Sunday, he’ll blow it.

Get ready for more of this shinizzle. Anything and everything that any candidate says about Osama Obama will be taken by his posse (and their self hating butt boys in the MSM) and put through the Racist Insinuation Machine. This is the passive race-victim card which can be played without being tied directly to him.

I can’t stand Biden, but we all know what meant. It’s the 800 lb gorilla nobody wants to acknowledge in the room. Before Obama, all other serious black candidates carried the “I’m angry at white people” baggage, and had an ebonic accent which precluded them from being taken as a viable mainstream candidate.

Fork him.

I read where Republican candidate Mike Huckabee was on with Stewart this week. He got a good response from Stewart in the comedy dept. It seems Huckabee was a minister turned musician turned Governer turned Presidential candidate. He even pardoned Keith Richards traffic violations of 35 years ago before leaving. This guy ain’t a dark horse yet but I think he’s an appaloosa at least. Horse of a different color indeed !

He may get thru Sunday but will blow it by Monday night.

I’m with you Shooter. I’m thinking Sunday talking head show.

Alden, I so totally agree with your sentiments. The new in this issue should be the kids glove with which the media, both parties, and the minorities have treated it. I guarandamntee if Bush, Rove, Cheney etc. had made an identical comment, we’d hear about the racism of the remark AND how that racisms reflects the entire Republican party. It is this lack of outrage that should be piquing our curiousity and not the fact that he said it.

I have often watched Joe Biden in committee hearings (on C-Span) and wondered what kind of a SOB this guy might be when the cameras aren’t on him. It seems that he manages to be a fool and an assh!le even when he is being recorded…
Talk about a soft landing… Go on TDS and let people make fun of you. Better than having someone take your arrogant remarks seriously.
This guy has no chance of winning in 08′. I just wish someone would drive him out of the Senate before he is 90 years old.
As an aside, is anyone watching the confirmation hearings for Gen. Casey right now? Is anyone else struck by the advanced age of those questioning him? Sen. Warner will be 80 in a few months… Half of the Senators should have bibs deployed to catch the drool…

Babs on February 1, 2007 at 12:59 PM

The other thing that always strikes me about these hearings is how empty the podium is. Our annointed Senators that care SO MUCH about our military and the proseqution of the war do not even see fit to sit and listen to the entire hearing… Right now, 1:03 eastern time, the podium is practically empty…
It is all Kabuki theatre and that scares me.

Am I the only one who would like to see Obama, the next time he’s asked about the incident lean in to the mic, stare in to the camera and sing “SPLISH SPLASH I WAS TAKING A BATH!”

RightWinged on February 1, 2007 at 2:09 PM

Glenn Beck just said Biden is ‘dumb as a box o’ rox’.

Not sure why that’s so funny to me, but hope it is for you too.

Crap is definitely an accurate assesment.

lol, I’ve got to respond to myself here (is that allowed?)

Enter, Al Sharpton (his politics may be outrageous, but he’s a relatively funny guy much of the time)

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/31/washington/02cnd-biden.html?ei=5065&en=ef2e1f1bb7a627da&ex=1170910800&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print

Mr. Sharpton said that when Mr. Biden called him to apologize, Mr. Sharpton started off the conversation reassuring Mr. Biden about his hygienic practices. “I told him I take a bath every day,” Mr. Sharpton said.

On a serious side note… why is it that people always have to apologize to Jackson and Sharpton, as if they represent all black people?

Oh, and on another quick humorous note, is this just a coincidene?

In his conference call, Mr. Biden quoted his mother in trying to explain what he meant about Mr. Obama. “My mother has an expression: Clean as a whistle and sharp as a tack,” Mr. Biden said, showering more praise on one of his biggest opponents for the nomination.

John Mc Cain was quoted on PBR today (I know pbr) as commenting on the Warner sponsered bipartisian resolution condeming the troop surge as saying “You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig” Go John Boy1 Mabey there’s still a couple of hot coals in the old boiler. Stoke it up John!!

Allah Allah Allah!

Exit question: Why doesn’t Comedy Central just tack on an ad at the beginning and YouTube this crap instead?

Silly rabbit, understanding the free market is for conservatives.

It’s like the BBC, they still don’t have a decent Sonic Screwdriver yet, and it only took them 42 years to come up with the first one (1963-2005). . . . Oh my! I’m . . The Earth Worked!! 42 is the answer to Life the Universe and Everything!; But in code. What is the answer to life the universe and everything? None other than the sonic screwdriver.
