Decent wage? Compare what our enlisted and NCOs get compared to a cop – and no union protections, rules, etc either. Take care of their families, medical care? I have one nightmare word for you sir, “Tricare”. Vast social support systems – care to describe those – only ones I know about are families sticking together. My wife got two phone calls the whole time I was deployed – one “official” family support group meeting a month before I got home. Housing – heh, I had 1/6th of a plywood hut in Afghanistan, and base housing in the US wasn’t much better :) Obscene amenities? Name them. I seemed to have missed them in OEF…Perhaps he hasn’t heard of CENTCOM General Order #1.

We don’t serve FOR money – damned few in the world would do that. Pay is simply compensation that allows someone to serve without poverty, or without having a family, etc. – does Arkin write for free?

There’s no possibility at all that life exists before birth, but evolution explains how life began.

The First Amendment is sacred – and that includes protection for NAMBLA meetings simulated kiddie porn – but you can’t keep your guns, cuz that ol’ Second Amendment don’t matter. Oh, and if you’re a conservative … that “First Amendment is sacred thing” … well, not so much.

It never ceases to amaze me how the American Left has tried to hide their hideous behavior from the Vietnam War. Spitting on Soldiers, Sailors and Marines was no myth. If Jack Shafer and Jerry Lembcke had actually talked to Vietnam Vets, they would have learned otherwise. But, of course, that was not part of their agenda. They want to erase this behavior from the annals of history, just like President Clinton wanted to erase his subterfuge to avoid military service.

He is the type who hurls insults from a point of safety and scuttles under a rock with insect like precision when faced with danger.

He will never know the concept of being part of something larger than himself or the unvarnished bravery of standing shoulder to shoulder with your comrade.

Arkin has a dead soul. His soul has atrophied and died because he never fed it with duty, courage or any real tangible conviction.

That said, he is also a jackass that I would love to dentally rearrange.
