“It was not emotionally fulfilling, but the lady was very pleasant and very understanding. I do not know whether I would do it again. I would much rather find a girlfriend, but I have to be realistic.”
Special bonus “I have to be realistic” quote of the day! “God, I’m just so glad I found him. Or anybody.”

This relationship has potential! (/sarcasm)
Can these people not see how ridiculous this is? They are desperate people, who went to a meeting held specifically for desperate people. These two desperate people met eachother (because their type was all that was in attendance), and it’s “fate”!? Lol… This is almost as bad as watching horrible singers flip out insisting they are good on American Idol.
RightWinged on January 27, 2007 at 11:19 PM
Heck, that should get “Quote of the Month”! lol “repulsed by the sight of me”…
Great pic of the “happy” couple…
As for the dying guy…good for that hospice! He should get his last wish. God bless him. But with a stripper involved, look out for Nifong!
JetBoy on January 27, 2007 at 11:26 PM
I think the disabled young man did the right thing and so did those around him.
Buck Turgidson on January 27, 2007 at 11:27 PM
Wow, RW – good for you you’ll never know what it’s like to be alone in life. I’m happy for them, they’re probably nice people. You seem rather petty and mean by your comments.
Benthoven on January 27, 2007 at 11:29 PM
Um, everyone knows the second link is fiction, right?
It’s true in the larger sense, to be sure. But technically speaking: fiction.
Allahpundit on January 27, 2007 at 11:30 PM
I’m sure glad those two got together so they’ll quit bugging everybody else.
Speakup on January 27, 2007 at 11:38 PM
Sorta’ explains the whole AllahPundit fascination with Ilana Donna DoYaWanna, don’t ya’ think? But if AllahP gets a smile on his face (like this guy) when he watches those AP video blogs, I just don’t want to know — that is just TMI.
Even though we tease you a lot AllahP, ya’ gotta know we’re all rootin’ for ya’ (Well, at least the guys, anyway). Hope ya’ don’t have to wait until you’re 40 like these folks. Someday maybe you’ll settle down, and then you’ll start to hear the pitter-patter of the feet of little atheists. And if that doesn’t put the fear of God into ya’, nothing will.
CyberCipher on January 27, 2007 at 11:42 PM
I’m with Mr.Wallis on the prostitute decision. The only thing I would change would be to have it government subsidized and on demand. You know with neat little Katrina Debit Kards, only carte blanche, ulimited, open ended, tied directly to the treasury department accounts. You know like the ones members of congress get.
sonnyspats1 on January 27, 2007 at 11:47 PM
Have we just been had?
Well, it could have been real…
JetBoy on January 27, 2007 at 11:50 PM
Well, that’s nice at least. You really don’t want your parents lookin’ at ya and saying “look at our little baby, boning a whore.” That’s a mood killer right. TRUST me!
Why would he want a girlfriend? He just got the best part of the relationship. And he doesn’t have to suffer through prolonge discussions on where the lamp should go, or go to a flea market, or go clothes shopping.
lorien1973 on January 27, 2007 at 11:51 PM

Can’t say as I agree. Is sex the best and most important part of relationships to you?
Furthermore, I can withstand the inconvenience and tedium associated with rearranging the furniture just fine. I only draw the line at going with her to shop for shoes.
CyberCipher on January 28, 2007 at 12:08 AM
OK…OK…I digress….my excuse? It’s the weekend!
LOL on Alex K too….hahahaha

liberrocky on January 28, 2007 at 12:51 AM
Thanks for the link. I was amused. One of the more ironic and relevant entries there (considering the topic of this thread):
but my favorite was this one:
If Mencken wasn’t talking about liberals when he said that, he SHOULD have been.
CyberCipher on January 28, 2007 at 12:54 AM
Nick Wallis probably mopes less than many others who have many more choices and are less limited by health, time, mobility, etc.
Such stories are always moving and a great reminder of the sissies we tend to be.
Best is the quote by the wise sister:
I fully agree with whatever Nick wants to do, or not do.
Heh, me thinks that “nothing will” :)
The Onion caused the Chinese Government to complain to the U.S. State Dept., having thought them to be for real. They, and Scott Ott’s “ScrappleFace.com” are national treasures.
You’d be insufferable then and we’d miss out on so much wit, humor, psychology, mystique, and so many reality checks.

That second article was sooooo funny. Kind of reminds me of a former co-worker who bought a membership to “Together” and complained that all the guys were losers, who had no hope of ever finding someone, what kind of guy would join a dating service, without once remembering she joined it too.
As for the disabled guy, good for him & good for the hospice and the parents.

Oh my! I have nothing else to say about this.
thedecider on January 28, 2007 at 1:29 AM
Dude, first of all… any of us who bought the story are idiots… It’s “The Onion”… a parody news source. It seems like once every 6 months or so I run across it, realize the name is familiar but don’t ever remember that it’s parody. So anyway, I, along with others was had… it’s NOT REAL.
First of all, I am single. That said, how was I being mean? I was (when under the impression the story was real) was simply pointing out how ridiculous it would be for a couple to go to a meeting on being desperate, where obviously everyone in the audience would be just like them (desperately looking for someone else desperately looking for someone), and then call it “fate”.
Again, they’re fictional, but if they were real (which I thought, as did you Benthoven), how was I mean? I wasn’t teasing them, or calling them names, etc. etc. I just pointed out what a doomed situation that would be (based on the personalities) and how ridiculous it was to call it fate (because of course they would meet people just like themselves at an event for… people just like themselves!). It’s like saying that two KKK members met at a KKK rally for singles and were shocked to meet eachother there and called it fate. (No, I’m not comparing desperate single people to KKK members, I’m trying to break this down for you so you understand what I was pointing out, which it turns out what actually part of the joke of that parody article).
RightWinged on January 28, 2007 at 1:41 AM
I think it’s sad. My sister is searching for a mate at both, eHarmony.com and Match.com – it’s very hard to find a solid relationship out there. So many lonely people are looking for a soul-mate. It amazes me how many people are doing the online mate-matching thing. Very telling of what’s going on in society today.
thedecider on January 28, 2007 at 1:46 AM
Come on Randy. I know you have a thicker skin than that. In fact, I’ve witnessed it in other dialogues you’ve been a part of. Maybe you’re just trying to generate comment.

CyberCipher,
It is amazing, the things we say,
unaware of what we reveal about ourselves
when we say those things,
eh?
rockhauler on January 28, 2007 at 2:08 AM
Yup. And most likely, there’s a lot of folk that frequent HotAir that think that I am a complete horse’s patootie (based on some of the comments that I post here). That’s okay. They might be right. Then, on the other hand, there always that “Slappy Sue” moment of discovery — where you finally realize who it is that you’ve been talking to all this time. (a reference to a thread that AllahPundit posted many weeks ago – dig it out of the archives if you must) I am convinced that people are much more multi-faceted than can POSSIBLY be revealed by what they are quoted on or on the comments that they post on an Internet blog site. That’s part of what keeps it interesting.
I’ve always thought it would be interesting if Michelle hosted a HotAir convention somewhere — at sometime in the future. If we all finally met each other face-to-face, I am sure it would be a mixed bag of disappointments and pleasant surprises. Some people might not be able to handle it though.

Capitalist Infidel on January 28, 2007 at 5:08 AM
Um…Yes! Sexual compatibility is extremely important. Is it most important? I’d say most definately. What are the two most frequent things couples argue about? Sex and money.

Hey, try being an openly Conservative single male in the San Francisco area, I actually have thrown in the towel.
bbz123 on January 28, 2007 at 7:57 AM
There is a third – kids. Once the kids come along you will be surprised how little money you have and to add insult to injury how little time for sex because of energy spent on the kids and busting your hump to make enough money to support them.
Keep a good sense of humor and enjoy the umm ride.
Bradky on January 28, 2007 at 8:44 AM
Haha, that’s what it’s all about.
tiekitwist on January 28, 2007 at 8:49 AM
Ah….At 41, single, and without children I never even thought of that one. :)
Capitalist Infidel on January 28, 2007 at 9:02 AM
LOL and I have no doubt if I were 41, single and without kids my opinion about sexual compatibility would be identical to yours – would elaborate but have to go change a diaper!

Fake but accurate…

Scot, thanks for the video link. It’s nice to reminisce about when music had melody.
Bradky – Heheh. I’m with you. Is it just me, or does it seem as though kids have a sixth sense that wakes them up at the most…um…inopportune moments?
Slublog on January 28, 2007 at 9:56 AM
This story was linked on a type of Catholic Drudge Report yesterday and has sparked a lot of Catholic outrage at the “Catholic” nun (i.e. liberal posing as a Catholic nun) who supported the prostitute visiting the handicapped guy (in total opposition to all Catholic doctrine). The poor guy is not only handicapped but also has some really idiotic parents.
This story demonstrates to what depths that liberal England, which used to be a great empire, has sunk to.

Very nice parody. I missed the “onion” at the top, and made it almost to the end before I realized that it was just a tad too over the top to be real.
Of course, the fact that some of you knuckleheads not only fell for it, but arguing about it, makes it even funnier.
Professor Blather on January 28, 2007 at 12:29 PM
Thick skin is firmly attached… But someone was unjustly basically calling me a jerk, so it was necessary to explain how ridiculous their emotional reaction was.

Geez..you guys made me cancel my sub to match.com. But I must say, there are some eager women out there, and as Walton and Johnson say, nothing better than an eager beaver :D
lsutiger on January 28, 2007 at 12:57 PM
LOL it’s not just you – don’t know how old your’s are but even when they begin to move out this sixth sense continues — “good time to drop by and see the folks” or “think I’ll give them a call”
Bradky on January 28, 2007 at 3:55 PM
So, morality is truly down the drain. Count me in the judgemental column, but not aimed at the disabled young man, rather everyone who “supported” his decision. Nobody, ever, knows what tomorrow may bring. He’s not old enough to have decided he’ll never meet miss Right, and his argument has been the justification used by every hormone-driven wolf throughout history.
“I’m off to war tomorrow, and I can’t bear the thought that I might die having never known a woman…”
Right is right, wrong is wrong, and my sympathy (or anyone else’s) for his condition and his position doesn’t change that. Of course, if you’re an atheist then there is no moral foundation to the universe, and you can do whatever you wish as long as you can justify it to yourself.
Freelancer on January 28, 2007 at 3:59 PM
I understand your point Freelancer. I would not have suggested he hire a prostitute, but if it’s his wish, I have a hard time condemming it. I care about morality too, but I draw a distinction between those who choose promiscuity as a lifestyle and those who want to know what the hell sex is before they die.
(I just can’t seem to stay out of trouble today.)
Buck Turgidson on January 28, 2007 at 8:04 PM
My daughter is only 10 months old, so her disturb-the-parents-fu is still in the early stages. It’s slightly depressing (but good warning) to know it will likely continue after she moves out of the house.
Slublog on January 28, 2007 at 9:02 PM
No need to be depressed. If you and your spouse are still being creative about handling interruptions and keeping that sense of humor 20 years from now you’ll be fine. Just one part of the whole recipe that makes it all so fun.
Bradky on January 28, 2007 at 9:13 PM
Good point. A sense of humor does help.
A lot.
I have to admit, though…as schmlatzy as it sounds, being a parent really is the most amazing thing that I’ve ever experienced. It’s not always the most fun ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Slublog on January 28, 2007 at 9:17 PM
Ditto. 3yr old daughter asleep upstairs. Good thing about the blogging is it can be done quietly.

profitsbeard on January 29, 2007 at 12:21 AM
Buck,
I don’t think we disagree. Notice I didn’t find near as much fault with the young man, but the enablers of his decision. I know hundreds of singles between the ages of 18 and 35, and without intending to being unkind, a number of them will likely remain that way because of a lack of attractiveness, or mental capacity. And I don’t believe any of them would make this choice. In spite of all the pop culture examples to the contrary, there remain many in America who believe that only within marriage should a bed be shared.
