I think that we are giving Clinton, Carter and Arafat way too much power here. If Camp David was a poker game then Arafat should never have been invited to the table. A man with $5 in his pocket does not play in a $100 ante game. Clinton knew that Israel was prepared to call and put all of their cards on the table. Had Arafat agreed - he surely would have been killed by Hamas and other factions when he returned. During the process Arafat would leave - then Clinton would beg him to return. I am not defending Arafat - however he was put in an impossible position.

Clintons selfish drive to leave a legacy other than "Girls Gone Wild at the White House" forced an unnatural time line on the peace talks. I suggest that had Arafat known that the stakes were so high - he never would have played. Clinton forced him to play a game that was way over his head.

I also doubt that Arafat needed Carter to tell him that if he signed an agreement he would be assassinated, his skimming game would be over, and chaos would ensue. All we need to do is look at the current situation.

The good that I see in the entire world wide situation with Muslim terrorism is plain. The culprits are now visible for all to see. Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and Syria are exposed. In the past there was an idea that the terrorism directed at Israel was coming from a magical place - the PA did not take responsibility and Arafat acted as if he had no idea where the homicide bombers were coming from. Everyone knows, except of course Jihad Jimmy Carter and his Kool Aid Kids, that Hamas will never agree to a two state solution. At Camp David Clinton proceeded as if Hamas did not exist or somehow magically they would obey a peace accord. Now Hamas is front and center. This is the only progress that resulted from Camp David.

In a way, if Carter was even partially involved in Arafat's rejection of Barak's irresponsible offer, I hope he realizes that he did Israel a favor. If accepted, the arabs would have much more than Gaza, and billions more of US money with which to wage the war against Israel that they surely would have continued.

Another issue I would like President Carter to be asked about:

Back in the 70's I distinctly remember reading an account of when the Shah left Iran. A group of Iranian generals were in a meeting discussing if they should put down the growing uprising by the pro-Koumeni mobs which were roaming the streets and demonstrating.

A top American general, whose name I don't remember, came into that room and strongly dressed down all these generals - all whome were pro West and USA - and told them they should do nothing. This decision would have been straight from President Carter.

No doubt these Iranian generals were later put to death. Jimmy Carter's decision to help the Iranian revolution came back to bite him during the American Embassy takeover by the people he helped.

So, the magnitude of the Iranian problem can be directly attibuted to the soft hearted and soft headed Mr. Carter.

Thirteen28 has it right. The "Palestinians" are not intersted in Peace, they are interested only in the destruction of Israel, killing every Jew they can, and complete territorial conquest. Any other overatures are a ploy, a tactic to gain some advantage - usually by use of the MSM and their allies such as Carter.

The "Palestinians" are an example of using deceit and decception when dealing with the "Infidel". They cannot be trusted.

This is why I’ve never understood people like Jimmy Carter. The Palestinian leadership and the various Palestinian mobs are always quite clear about what they want (all the Jews dead) and here comes Jimmy Carter slinging the bull that all they want is a state of their own. austinnelly on January 26, 2007 at 11:27 AM

Second that. The Palestinians state one thing very clearly, but Carter (and fellow-travelers) declares that's not what they mean. Don't know what the psychology is behind that. We are being told we can't believe what we hear with our own ears? Carter's ego is so huge that he must have his interpretation take precedent over plain declarations? Carter is noise - only on the scene to stroke his ego; he is irrelevent, but he is fighting the fact.

The thing is that the PLO does not want a two state solution, they want a single Islamic Arab nation stretching from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea and from the Golan Heights down to the border with Sinai. They are not interested in economic incentives or jobs or the things that normal civilized people want, they want jihad. So “never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity” is false - they have been remarkably consistent (and in a way faithful) in their desire for the termination of Israel.

Hilts on January 26, 2007 at 11:12 AM

That cannot be said enough, Hilts.

They (the Palestinians) don't want peace, don't want a two-state solution, and don't want any Jews anywhere in the area. As long as the problem is addressed from the premise that they do, it will never get solved.

I look at it this way; if I have a neighbor who tells me every day to my face he wants me and my entire family dead, I'm not going to believe the neighborhood association president telling me no, he just wants you to chop down your apple tree that overlooks his property. He's been doing this dance for almost 30 years. Just put on your Arafat memorial do-rag, grab an AK and start waving it at the local synagogue. Carter should tell the truth for once in his mostly useless career.

"Palestinian Statehood" A mirage for the ages!

I have a questions myself!

Palestinian Statehood, who needs it, who wants it, who’s going to pay for it, and what purpose would it serve?"

What a freakin joke!
