Photos: Katherine Harris hands out business cards at SotU

They can’t commit fraud, they can’t be guilty of bribery, and they certainly can’t be child abusers. That pretty much sums up the type of Republican candidate I won’t support. But Katherine Harris is the exception; the woman is just plain nuts. And after losing her wild and crazy campaign to unseat Senator Bill Nelson, she won’t go away. US News caught the former congresswoman handing out business cards to Republican lawmakers prior to the State of the Union address:

no she didn’t.

yes. yes she did.

I wonder what type of services she was offering.

“Hi! I don’t believe we’ve met, I’m Katharine Harris! Here’s my card.”

Jewels on January 26, 2007 at 2:37 PM

Are you sure that is her? I wouldn’t put it past her but just doesn’t quite look like her.

bj1126 on January 26, 2007 at 2:37 PM

OK! I’ll play!
What is the problem with Katherine Harris handing out business cards?

shermacman on January 26, 2007 at 2:40 PM

Well, here is a picture of her swinging a possum around by its tail. I’m thinking, yeah, its the same person in both pictures.

Savage on January 26, 2007 at 2:40 PM

DANG! She is actually holding a freakin’ possum!

Theworldisnotenough on January 26, 2007 at 2:43 PM

I dunno. I am having a little trouble confirming the obvious upper-body strength shown in the possum picture (maybe it is just the vertical stripes?), with that in the black suit.

Could be the same opportunist.

ej_pez on January 26, 2007 at 2:47 PM

Isn’t that what politicians do?

In the immortal words of Frank Hargrove: “Get over it”.

Perchant on January 26, 2007 at 2:48 PM

Isn’t that called “networking?” Gotta pay them bills somehow. It’s not like she was pole dancing or anything.

KelliD on January 26, 2007 at 2:50 PM

However, I gotta agree. She’s a nut.

KelliD on January 26, 2007 at 2:50 PM

“Hi, I’m Katherine Harris. You may remember me from such election disputes as…the 2004 Presidential Election.”

BillLalor on January 26, 2007 at 2:51 PM

Who cares…at least she isn’t lying, giving BJs in federal buildings or even offering to help a corporation keep their slave labor in American-Samoa….

Tim Burton on January 26, 2007 at 2:53 PM

She still retains floor rights and she’s makin the best of it. I can’t say I would have preferred her over Bill Nelson, who’s district I reside in. It seems Kate is just networking trying to recoup some of the millions of her own money she invested in a lost bit for Nelsons seat. The party distanced themselves from her financially at election times. She does seem a little distant in her news coverage videos, but mabey thats cause she’s a wealthy, well educated white chick. How’d she do while in congress?

sonnyspats1 on January 26, 2007 at 2:53 PM

::falls off chair::

Oh for the love of poopie. Savage, what are you doing with a photo of Harris Swinging possum? LOL

Jewels on January 26, 2007 at 2:53 PM

What, like these people didn’t already know who she was? The question isn’t “why not”, but “why would they care?” Does she believe that giving out her cards is going to get her a job somewhere? She looking to intern for Edwards or something?

Jewels on January 26, 2007 at 2:57 PM

Well, here is a picture of her swinging a possum around by its tail.

*scratches head*

Huhh. Well do you have any naked pictures of Bea Arthur?

natesnake on January 26, 2007 at 2:58 PM

Uh, politicians hand out business cards. Business people hand out business cards. You hand out business cards because you want to do business. I guarantee you there were others doing the same thing before the SOTU.

But hey, maybe you got some indie cred for ragging on Katherine Harris.

spmat on January 26, 2007 at 3:00 PM

I’ve never understood the whole thing about Bush’s alleged sense of loyalty. Sure, he frequently declines to fire people that he should, but that’s just as easily explained by the fact that he’s stubborn and incompetent. Firing them would reflect badly on his decision to hire them and approve their work in the first place.

That said, I agree Bush expects loyalty to him unqualifiedly.

Alex K on January 26, 2007 at 3:00 PM

OMG…..Harris is networking. How dare she do that, AP. Nevermind that every other politician and capitalist does it, but the fact that she did it is just beyond the pale. (/rollingeyes)

.

GT on January 26, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Ian’s post, not Allah’s. And come on, Ian’s not trying to be mean, it’s just pretty goofy to do that at the SotU.

Alex K on January 26, 2007 at 3:03 PM

Anyway, she shouldn’t have to do that; the magnanimous and loyal godfather Bush should be able to help her.

Alex K on January 26, 2007 at 3:04 PM

I don’t see the big deal. Maybe a little tacky, but no more than Cheney checking his email during the SOTU, or the gallery of dozing senators.

vcferlita on January 26, 2007 at 3:04 PM

who cares?

mattshu on January 26, 2007 at 3:05 PM

Oi. It’s just a wee bit pathetic to hand out cards at the SOTU. Particularly by someone that well known who has, incidentally, lost her last election. In a crowd of people where your respectability is in direct proportion to your ability to *win* elections.

Jewels on January 26, 2007 at 3:21 PM

Anyway, she shouldn’t have to do that; the magnanimous and loyal godfather Bush should be able to help her.

Alex K on January 26, 2007 at 3:04 PM

He did help her….by rolling the bus right over her. Sadly, she got back up. So, it’s Harris, and Senator Amnesty for Florida. I’ve got your “deep GOP bench” right here.

Kid from Brooklyn on January 26, 2007 at 3:22 PM

she’s probably a lobbyiest now, thats what most ex-politicians that get defeated do.

jp on January 26, 2007 at 3:22 PM

Well, here is a picture of her swinging a possum around by its tail.

I’m guessing she lost the critical PETA vote.

Its AP. He’s wearing a Ian mask today.

;)

Oh for the love of poopie. Savage, what are you doing with a photo of Harris Swinging possum?

A man has needs, damnit!

Savage on January 26, 2007 at 3:32 PM

Ian, me thinks your post could benefit from a slight correction. I think the title should read:

Katherine Harris hands out business cards at SotU–BOOSH!

CyberCipher on January 26, 2007 at 3:41 PM

If you look at the top picture there seems to be more printed on the card than a normal business card. And it looks to be a little too big to be a normal wallet-sized business card, so what is it? As they say, “I have no dog in this fight”, but why the constant bashing of Harris? Let’s get some pictures of envelopes full of money changing hands instead. Let’s see the MSM do some invesigative journalism on some freezers around DC.

Jeff on January 26, 2007 at 3:42 PM

Cruella De Vil, indeed.

bloviator on January 26, 2007 at 3:42 PM

The possum needs psychological and physical care – he’s mortified of that face.

Note to Harris – call John Kerry.

Entelechy on January 26, 2007 at 3:44 PM

I campaigned for Harris and donated to the Harris campaign even though I suspected it was all doomed from the start. I will take one crazy heiress with a solid conservative voting record over Bill Nelson any day. Until this war is over, there is no such thing as safe, moderate Democrats.

In fact, Nelson proved he is well on his way to moonbattery by flying to Damascus to conduct his own foreign policy a month ago — after the State Department specifically asked him not to do so.

That being said, the possum picture is going in my permanent political clippings file. Pure comedic gold.

Anton on January 26, 2007 at 3:46 PM

Wow she’s stacked and she can swing a mean possum, bonus points.

Ok, Savage, don’t hold out on us…where are the swimsuit photos?

Alden Pyle on January 26, 2007 at 3:48 PM

Savage on January 26, 2007 at 2:40 PM

The link that Savage provides to Harris with the ‘possum, appears to be real.

Appears Katherine was quite the buxom “looker” back in the day.

Lawrence on January 26, 2007 at 3:54 PM

And people scorned me when I said don’t vote for this lady in the florida primaries. Who’s laughin’ now?

We coulda won that senate if it wasn’t for harris! Probably a few others in the state as well! But NOOOOOOOOOO.

Everyone wanted harris in the senate. Why? Tell me why, dammit?

lorien1973 on January 26, 2007 at 4:02 PM

Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote.

Savage on January 26, 2007 at 4:05 PM

I think Harris handing out business cards (Oh, the horror!) is the LEAST of the Republicans’ worries at this point.

JinxMcHue on January 26, 2007 at 5:16 PM

she’s a dipsh*t and she’s going to embarass the hell out of the republican party someday.

jummy on January 26, 2007 at 5:27 PM

I don’t see the problem? People network all the time. Is she slightly over the top? Of course! But, really, what is the problem here? At least she wasn’t sleeping during the speech (that we know of).

SouthernGent on January 26, 2007 at 6:12 PM

Bill Nelson was and still is the archtype of the Empty Suit: you could call him stupid, but there’s not enough of him there to call him much of anything. He’s a zero, a nothing, zilch, nada…..

And the best the Repubs can throw against him is Harris? Even a blank Nobody like Nelson could swat her away with very little campaining. The same state party which could come up with Jeb Bush can swing 180 degrees in a few years and offer her up as a Senate candidate. Six years ago all Nelson had for Repub oposition was Bill McCallum, who looks and sounds like your Junior High social studies teacher

Wanna go back to six decades of being the permanent minority again, guys? Keep offering voters a dingbat like Harris…..

Janos Hunyadi on January 26, 2007 at 9:53 PM

I think Ian’s point was the fact that at the once-a-year event, where the President addresses America on the State of the Country, it isn’t the place for a failed candidate that her own party doesn’t like to hand out business cards.

amerpundit on January 26, 2007 at 11:36 PM

I don’t know. If I got back stabbed by that spineless bunch of turdballs in the GOP that are still in office putting face to a** with the Democrats, I would say handing out cards, publicly exposing oneself or getting the nostrils really clean would all be appropriate activities at the lovely yearly stemwinder. They left her to fend for herself and supported ‘Missing’ Linc Chaffee? To hell with them. Let her hand out cards. She’d have my support for life if she’d taken that possum she was holding in the picture and dropped it down Chuck Hagel’s trousers.

lorien1973 on January 26, 2007 at 4:02 PM

Why not?

I wouldn’t say “everyone” wanted Harris in the senate. The Democrat sock puppeteers hit all the conservative sites with their plaintive moans of “nooooo”, “she can’t winnnnn”, “whyyyyyyy” and desperately petty ridicule.

Perchant on January 27, 2007 at 1:50 AM

At least she doesn’t have the media and unions drum beating for her.

oldelpasoan on January 27, 2007 at 10:26 AM

….nothing more attractive than a mature woman playing with her possum in public.

Alden Pyle on January 27, 2007 at 12:20 PM

Wow is this a slow news day?
