Video: OMG! Libs furious with Glenn Beck for repeating gay slur in non-derogatory way

posted at 1:06 pm on January 25, 2007 by Ian

Some liberal bloggers have been up in arms this week over Glenn Beck’s use of the word “faggot” during the Monday broadcast of his CNN show. Commenting on the controversy surrounding actor Isaiah Washington, Beck merely repeated the word Washington had used to insult one of his castmates — and prefaced it moments earlier by referring to it as a “naughty name.” Not good enough, alas, for the language police. People, it should be noted, who routinely hurl and tolerate racist slurs at minority conservatives.

Perhaps if Beck had photoshopped blackface onto pictures of the nutroots’ enemies, he’d have fared better.

“Think” Progess has the video.

I wonder how many of these same folks got upset when the distinguished ex-Kleagle from West Virginia used the term “white niggers” in a most derogatory way indeed? How many of them will get mad at us for just repeating what the Democrats’ own “conscience of the Senate” said?

Self righteous indignation from the intolerant, racist, bigoted, phobic, decency bashing, baby killing via abortion loving, appeasement of illegal invaders-immigrant loving, fifth column hate “America,” but love the Islamic Jihadis and Communist crowd.

What else is new?

You only get offended by a derogatory word if you feel like less of a person by being what it is talking about. I have never once been offended by being called a Breeder. When I was younger I got hurt when called buck-toothed, (I felt inferior because of it) but ya know what, I learned it didn’t have anything to do with who I am? I grew up! Now nothing I am called offends me; I’ve worked customer service (in person and over the phone) so trust me when I tell you I’ve been called EVERYTHING.

Glenn Beck on his tv show often will precede a piece by telling liberals to get their TIVO ready or whatever they want to record the next part of his show. He then goes on to say he is simply going to repeat or read what was previously said by somebody else. And he will even conclude by betting people that this segment will now show up on liberal blogs and YouTube with further proof of how intolerant conservatives are. It really is pathetic.

LakeRuins on January 25, 2007 at 1:33 PM

Wow, after watching the video I’m even more shocked that anyone would complain about that. What a bunch of fags.

RightWinged on January 25, 2007 at 1:41 PM

Glenn Beck is the only reason I ever tune to CNN. This attack on him is just one of many to be expected as his popularity grows and the fascist liberals freak out.

Another word with “gg” that they want to forbid from our exercise of free speech. Next it will be the criminal types lobbying to have the word “mugger” erased from the lexicon.

Kinda loses it’s offensiveness after a while. People are entirely toooooo thin skined nowadays. Using disparaging terms towards others is a reflection of the person using the word, not a reflection of the person it is used against. This is the behavior of a society that refuses to take responsibility for their self esteem (because they are looking for others to take care of them perhaps?).

A lot of you have probably heard this anecdote before, but for those whom have not……

A man said to me that I made him mad. I responded that I would like him to give me $100 dollars. He refused to fork over the bucks, so I asked him “Why?”. “Because I don’t want to” was his response.

“Thats funny.” I responded. “How is it that I have this god-like power to make you mad, but for some reason I cannot make you give me $100?”.

More people should take responsibilty for their thoughts and feelings….truly the basis of many gospel principles.

I love this comment:

“If Beck says that faggot is just a naughty name, then I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that he is hardly a moral teacher and he is not the final word. Racial, sexual and personal slurs against anyone is nothing short of a hate crime/attack and should not be tolerated. It’s time to clean up this planet and the people on it that use this negative crap like an exercise tool. If people were more comfortable in thier own skin, they wouldn’t try to be such social bullies.

Hate to stray from the subject at hand. But, can someone explain to me the origin of the British term for cigarettes. It occurred to me reading this, that back in my college days some of my British friends referred to them as fags. If I recall correctly the first time I was ever ask if I had a spare fag on me, I answered, hell no, I don’t swing that way dude! And for that matter why the term fag is now associated to gay people? Just curious…

Chorus to “Pack up you Troubles” . . . a popular tune synonymous with World War I. Has this also been banned by the moonbat left?

Chorus (sung twice after each verse)
Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile,
While you’ve a lucifer to light your fag,
Smile, boys, that’s the style.
What’s the use of worrying?
It never was worth while, so
Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile.

Hey Defector, Oh your reference to Fraggle Rock was cute. I guess you never served in Vietman in the 60′s or had friends or relatives who did. Fragit is a reference to a common term used by some in the military then, as in to frag someone is when a hand grenade detonates close to someone and the fragments of the pineapple casing do their job. Hence frag it! Cabish?

A soldier leaving Iraq tells his best buddy staying over there “I love you man”.

The guy just looks at him.

“Aren’t you gonna say anything?”

He says “The last time I said something like that, you called me a faggot.”

“I was just kidding! Dude, I might never see you again.”

“Ok, I love you too bro.”

“You faggot! I can’t believe you just said that!”

HAHA! That story cracked me up when I read it. Only true friends could say that to each other!

BTW, Glenn kicks ass!

Funny. The same thing more or less happened to me at RAF Bentwaters. Only I heard some Brit say he was going to go outside and “smoke” a fag. When I reacted everybody just started laughing and then somebody explained it to me. A week or so later I was over at a some restaraunt and there were “faggots” on the menu. Go figure.

Guardian on January 25, 2007 at 5:44 PM

I agree. Terms like “faggot”, “prostate gladiator”, and “meat holster” are totally out of bounds. The proper term is “fancy lad”. “Panty-waisted little nancy boy” is also acceptable. Especially when applied to Markos Moulitsas.

TugboatPhil on January 25, 2007 at 7:37 PM

The only reason people ever thought to use the term “god damn” is because it’s prohibited to do so in the bible. If there wasn’t a third commandment, the “god damn” curse wouldn’t exist.

Usage of these other “forbidden” words is perpetuated in the same way. Usage of the words are the fault of those who whine about the usage of the words and the “slurs” are the blasphemy of the liberal religion.

I have to strongly disagree with you. The roots of the English language come from a virtual melting pot of cultures and civilations. When a slang word or coloquialism is introduced it may not communicate as well as the standard accepted vernacular due to regional or chronological limitations. Therefore what means one thing in San Francisco might not mean the same thing in New Jersey. Standardized English was taught in grammer school for two hundred years in the United States. This is a very strong cohesive force of unity. If we ever needed unity as a nation we need it now. So call yourself anything you want to but don’t think you can steal or make up words without consequence. ie; gay-merry,bright,brilliant in color. faggot-a bundle of sticks or twigs especialy as used for fuel.

sonnyspats1 on January 25, 2007 at 8:34 PM

I’ve recently joined the Cult of Beck…he’s hilarious, right about a lot of issues and tries to be scrupulously honest.
The Left is just looking for reasons to jump ugly on him; he goes on and on about how Robert Kennedy Jr. called him a “fascist” (and everyone’s still working on who and what a “fascist” is 60 years after Mussolini).

Never mind about the evolution and permutations of the words “fag” or “faggot,” what about the complete appropriation by the homosexuals of the adjective “gay” and it’s co-optation from an adjective meaning “happy, light-hearted, fun” to a noun meaning them?

Jen the Neocon on January 25, 2007 at 9:35 PM

JetBoy on January 25, 2007 at 11:04 PM

Here is a reference from Online Etymology:

“male homosexual,” 1914, Amer.Eng. slang (shortened form fag is from 1921), probably from earlier contemptuous term for “woman” (1591), especially an old and unpleasant one, in reference to faggot (1) “bundle of sticks,” as something awkward that has to be carried (cf. baggage). It was used in this sense in 20c. by D.H. Lawrence and James Joyce, among others. It may also be reinforced by Yiddish faygele “homosexual,” lit. “little bird.” It also may have roots in Brit. public school slang fag “a junior who does certain duties for a senior” (1785), with suggestions of “catamite,” from fag (v.). This was also used as a verb.
“He [the prefect] used to fag me to blow the chapel organ for him.” ["Boy's Own Paper," 1889]
Other obsolete senses of faggot were “man hired into military service simply to fill out the ranks at muster” (1700) and “vote manufactured for party purposes” (1817). The oft-heard statement that male homosexuals were called faggots in reference to their being burned at the stake is an etymological urban legend. Burning was sometimes a punishment meted out to homosexuals in Christian Europe (on the suggestion of the Biblical fate of Sodom and Gomorah), but in England, where parliament had made homosexuality a capital offense in 1533, hanging was the method prescribed. Any use of faggot in connection with public executions had long become an English historical obscurity by the time the word began to be used for “male homosexual” in 20th century American slang, whereas the contemptuous slang word for “woman” (and the other possible sources or influences listed here) was in active use.

Hope that satisfies the curiosity.

I have no desire to be politically correct as I feel it infringes on my freedom of thought. I have no hatred toward homosexuals but I strongly prefer not to be in the presence of a man who may have designs of a sexual nature or motives other than my own. It’s like your on another team, and besides look at public opinion can do ,remember Mark Foley? Really though I am sure that the comments you are reading here are ment more as a deterant to homosexuality than an expression of hatred. Did it ever occur to you that people here might be concerned for you. I won’t go into the many ramifications on how homosexuality weakens us as a nation, and it is a selfish self centered life style, with the sole purpose of sexual gratification.
