New DLC Chair Ford: “I love Jesus, I love girls, and I absolutely love football”

As trifectas go, you can do worse than that. Jesus is a late addition, but better late than never.

Here’s his first editorial for the DLC’s magazine. Like Clinton at his best, it’s well meaning yet gaseous:

First, on the most urgent challenge, Iraq, Democrats should not adopt an “I told you so” approach after the Iraq Study Group’s central finding that the situation in Iraq is dire and that we need to change course. Positive and concrete options are needed — including careful consideration of partitioning the country — to bring enough stability and security to Iraq to convert it from civil war to independence. The Iraq Study Group’s 79 recommendations are a good start, but we should not be afraid to be even bolder if that is what it takes to get things right. Any solution in Iraq may require sending more troops in the short-term to stem the violence — but we should do so only if Iraqis demonstrate the willingness and the ability to rebuild their own country now. With a consensus plan in place and a realistic endgame in sight, the American people will unite behind a greater short-term commitment.

I want to like the guy. Notwithstanding his campaign’s eleventh-hour descent into jackassery, I try to like the guy.

But how can you like someone who looks like someone you hate?

How dare you defile the Captain with such a comparison? Go ahead and ban yourself.

Jeter! Emissary of the Evil Empire!

How can you hate Jeter? It’s like hating puppies. Or vanilla ice cream.

Ford’s right. I do have too many guns.

Number 2 – I know what you mean. I’m from KC. We HATE the Yankees. I went to school in NY for 4 years and had to listen as people told me how the Royals were just a farm team for the Yankees (which, while it might be true, is definitely not something you say to a KC girl). But even I don’t hate Jeter. He’s too……puppies. That’s exactly it. He’s too much like puppies to hate. He’d look better in Royal blue though. ;)

LOL!

After his statement, Ford retired to the locker room for some good-natured towel snapping.

BANNED. WITH A VENGEANCE.

Allahpundit on January 25, 2007 at 7:19 PM

Jeter??? He’s alright. Now if you had posted an picture of Alex Rodriquez…there’s a Yankee I can hate. (not that I am a bitter Mariner fan or anything)

AP,

You make me pine for the good ole days of your photoshop brilliance.

“Bitchslap in Beantown” will always hold a special place in my heart. Abu-Jewtosser was pure GOLD man. GOLD.

A Gwyneth Paltrow “OH MY GOD!”

I think we’ve just been “Jetered.”

(Sounds better as a verb, don’t ya’ think?

I’ll have you know Kansas City used to be a Yankee farm team. Meanwhile, don’t insult Jeter by comparing him to that clown.

Hey, let’s talk about that Iraq thing.

BTW, word is he and Jessica Biel are on the outs.

I’m not a baseball fan, but I live in New England, so I’m regionally required to say the following:

*ahem*

“Yankees Suck”

Anyway, I want to like Harold Ford, Jr., as well. I’m just not sure he’s sincere.

I can tolerate vanilla ice cream as long as it’s got chips and crumbled up cookie things in it.

where is the gratuitous a-rod mention… come on…

Asmodeus on January 25, 2007 at 9:26 PM

Well thats everything then. There is nothing else to love, right? paaaaleeeeze. Must live in an awfully little world.

First, on the most urgent challenge, Iraq, Democrats should not adopt an “I told you so” approach …

Or even better, they might stop actually cheering for the insurgents and Iranians.

All Dhimmicrats make me retch, but I’ll take Osama Obama any day over Her Heinous Hillary.
(I’m a girl, we don’t do baseball and we cry in baseball, too.)

Jen the Neocon on January 26, 2007 at 1:30 AM

Your patriotism will not be questioned here as long as you like apple pie. How is that?

Jen the Neocon on January 26, 2007 at 1:30 AM

Agreed, although sometimes I like JoeMentum, mostly when he talks national security. He’s strong like zee bull.

And I must confess that Shrillary has done a remarkable job of evolving her image, and often through votes and not empty rhetoric. Given no other choices, I would vote for her v. Osama Obama in a heartbeat. They are both race-leftists (she is probably worse, I think because she is the whitest woman on earth), but he is leftist down to his very core.

HRH Billary would, I believe, attempt to defend the country. If only because she knows Bill didn’t…

Jaibones on January 26, 2007 at 9:23 AM

I’m not which is more eyebrow-raising: putting football before Jesus or putting football before girls……

Anyone who has to try to convince you they’re a regular guy who likes regular guy things is trying to hard and probably isn’t a regular guy. It’s like John Kerry duck hunting.

Umm. There is of course the notion that men who ridicule manicures and man bags are themselves less than secure in their masculinity…..;^)

Men crack me up.

..or just laughing at dopey men who subscribe to the Oprahfication of this country.

A campaign of ideas, not ideology

Yet ideology is all he seems to offer. For example:

we should not be afraid to be even bolder if that is what it takes to get things right

Yet the Democrats are against a troop surge? Maybe they think that’s not bold enough. The truth is, no democrat will support anything this administration does in Iraq as he is a republican. I would call that opposition via political ideology.

With a consensus plan in place and a realistic endgame in sight, the American people will unite behind a greater short-term commitment

Consensus plan, more left wing ideology. The country is ruled by popular consensus, according to the liberals. Unfortunately for them, reality is quite different. Remember, this country is a Republic, not a Democracy.

College tuition in exchange for national service

Some would call that a back door draft, like John Kerry. Besides, we already have that. It’s called the Montgomery GI Bill.
http://www.gibill.va.gov
So what is he offering, free tuition at that taxpayers expense? The government will take care of you? More left wing ideology.

real vehicles for building wealth and opportunity for middle-class families, including savings accounts for every child born in the United States

I don’t know what idea he is stating here. It’s not as if they can’t have that now. I opened my first account at the age of 8. So just what is he proposing, matching Federal grants for every deposit until the age of 18? Opps, I shouldn’t give them any ideas. Never mind.

These are just a few ‘ideas’ that he is offering. I don’t see them as anything different from the ideology that the democrats have been offering all my life. Support the Democratic Party and your life will improve. That’s the true message and that’s all ideology.

This quote says it all:

The country is depending on Democrats to lead and deliver for all of us. Leadership, at its best, can solve, inspire, and heal.

RedinBlueCounty on January 26, 2007 at 11:57 AM

Wow. That’s the worst attempt at a religious declaration since Homer Simpson’s impromptu prayer, while hiding in a portable toilet from an attacking rhinocerous – “Jesus, Buddha, Allah, I love you all!”

I know, like, really mature analogy, but apt nonetheless.
