I don’t buy their “they said it, not us” defense at all, incidentally. Captain Ed made the Jamilgate analogy the other day, but I’m going to borrow it here to show the flaw in their logic. Here’s a paragraph from Insight’s story about the madrassas:

I can see where you’re coming from, but I have a question then. Is there a way for them to report on this story without making the claim themselves? Is it a wording issue or just that they shouldn’t be reporting this at all?

Quote 1: “We were reporting on a report by Hillary!” basically, they were spreading a rumor

Quote 2: They are basically redirecting everything to Obama. All you hear is “Obama, Whahabbi, Muslim”

Quote 3: Nothig’s proven, we’re spreading rumors and innuendo.

I couldn’t agree more. Shep seemed to take a decisively left lean during his Katrina coverage and that lean is still visible on his nightly broadcast. As for Anderson, I never really liked him but his Katrina coverage sealed the deal.
