[...] Back in January, the NYT’s Marc Santora (we ran into him at FOB Justice that same month) reported on the initial US establishment of an outpost in Ghazaliya. Allah aptly described Santora’s article as harrowing at the time. Over the course of three days spent with the 105 soldiers here — Company C of the Second Battalion, 12th Cavalry — four American vehicles were hit by roadside bombs near the outpost. No soldiers from Company C were wounded, but they know the fighting will intensify. [...]

[...] Shot in the dark here, but does Michaud’s name ring a bell? It should. He was mentioned in a high-profile NYT story a month ago about Charlie Company being besieged on all sides of the makeshift fort they’d built inside Ghazaliyah. So gripping was it that it warranted the rare HA double-link, first in one of my posts about the Mahdi Army and then in Bryan’s essay about reporting in Baghdad. It’s great to see the situation’s improved, sort of: according to the troops there, the Shiites are still muscling Sunnis out of the area (albeit with a lower profile per Sadr’s orders) and a big jihadi attack on the base is expected at any time, but the rounds whizzing by Michaud’s head as described in the Times piece are, for the moment, absent.
The VERY SECOND America leaves Iraq, Iraq hits critical mass. Sunni vs. Shia and it will be one hell of a blood bath.

And the problem with that is.......? I've been advocating letting them take care of each other for a while now. My prediction is Bush is going to be remembered for being the man that had the foresight to invade Iraq, remove Saddam, and leave the animals to deal with each other. In a couple years, they'll have killed each other off into much more "manageable" populations.

Sadr does have some bad teeth.

Here... let me get that for you. I'll just reach in here and pull out a JDAMS BLU-109 2,000 lb bunker buster bomb.

... There, that's got it. I'll bet that tooth doesn't hurt anymore.

amen MOMinuteman.

sadr should be dead..yesterday.

This really pisses me off about our trust of a checkpoint that is closest to us being unmanned by the US..this is war..flashing fake id's should never have made it past:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/014942.php

About a dozen U.S. troops were inside the compound at the time, al-Mishawi said.
Around 5:45 p.m., the gunmen cleared an Iraqi police checkpoint outside the center by flashing fake identification badges and speaking some English, al-Mishawi said.
Al-Mishawi said it is standard procedure for U.S. troops not to jointly man the checkpoint. He said U.S. personnel insist on passing without going through a security screening.
The attackers went through three checkpoints to enter the center, he said.

I remember when they had that sumbitch Sadr backed into a corner, I was thinking that when they bag his sorry ass it'll solve a major problem and we'll be a helluva lot closer to the end of this.

Then they not only let the gap-toothed goat molester live they made him part of the government. Then I was thinking, "This is come back and bite us in the ass, and it's gonna be a helluva lot harder and take longer to get to the end."

I wish I as good at predicting the Powerball numbers.

Every time I see that guy’s picture he reminds me of the scene in Jackass 2 where they dress their friend up as a Middle-Easterner and give him a pubic hair beard.

I should probably post something on topic too, but, meh.

I already have trouble looking at that pic since it illustrates that Mookie is in desperate need for some serious dental work. You just made it even harder to look at!!

Asked why Iraqi police didn’t stop the gunmen from fleeing [after the attack], al-Mishawi said: “They assumed it was American-on-American violence and wanted to stay out of it.”
