Disembodied head opposes surge; Update: Video link added

Well, actually, “opposes” isn’t quite the right word.

Coming soon to the second edition of Dinesh D’Souza’s book.

Zawahiri taunts Bush, questioning: “why send 20,000 only – why not send 50 or 100 thousand? Aren’t you aware that the dogs of Iraq are pining for your troops’ dead bodies?.” He then invites the American President to send the entire American Army to Iraq as he believes the Mujahideen are capable of destroying the equivalent of ten armies…

He then turns to the American people, reminding of past offers of security by reaching an “understanding” with Muslims, and warns that if they continue to follow the policies of Bush and his administration, then peace is impossible. The “correct equation,” as Zawahiri puts it, is security being a shared destiny, but not guaranteed.

The Counterterrorism Blog is describing this as his version of a “deal.” Laura Mansfield is working on a translation as I write this. Question: should I bother cutting the video when it’s available? I get the impression that very few of you actually watch the clips, which, admittedly, are monotonous in the extreme. Maybe we’ll stick to a transcript this time unless he really emotes it and I just can’t resist.

Here’s your headline of the day. It should be noted that the article itself is appropriately skeptical.

Update: Mansfield moves fast. Here’s the video, although it’s of regrettably poor quality. The subtitles are mostly illegible.

Update: Thanks to Rusty, with Laura Mansfield’s permission, here’s the video.

Having read The Looming Tower, given the choice to kill Zawahiri or UBL, I’d do the big Z.

Buck Turgidson on January 22, 2007 at 5:13 PM

I have only one thing to say to Zawahiri. Bite me you coward.

GT on January 22, 2007 at 5:16 PM

Hasn’t the old goat martyred himself yet? Isn’t this his sacred duty? What’s he waiting for?

shaken on January 22, 2007 at 5:16 PM

Aww. The only reason we did the surge was because we though Zawahiri would support it.

Yeah, they are too stupid to play the politics game.

Somebody has to lead them.

Rick on January 22, 2007 at 5:19 PM

Good news: Z-man trying to convince us NOT to surge is the best reason to do it. Thanks for the endorsment, Ayman.

Editor on January 22, 2007 at 5:25 PM

I question the timing.

On a semi-serious note, it has to feel good to be a Democrat, and once again on the same side of the issue as Al Qaeda leadership. Granted this time Zawahiri is arguing that they’ll defeat the US military, and in past instances of this unholy alliance we’ve seen the Democrats take virtually identical positions to terrorist groups… it’s still worth pointing out.

RightWinged on January 22, 2007 at 5:27 PM

Well, it’s interesting because he taunts the administration while, at the same time, telling the American people that they have tried to make a deal, and (more importantly) not to listen to the administration.

Rick on January 22, 2007 at 5:31 PM

Sorry I couldn’t read your post Allah. That flashing neon ad down the righthand column sent me into a mouth-foaming seizure.

Something about Zawahiri, was it?

CliffHanger on January 22, 2007 at 5:35 PM

Alex: Hey, boss, you ain’t goin’ upstairs are ya? Where those disembodied heads is?
Larry Lawrence: Listen, you stay there, and if a couple a fellas come runnin’ down the stairs in a few minutes, let the first one go. That’ll be me.
Alex: If somebody passes you, that’ll be me.

There, it’s fixed.

fogw on January 22, 2007 at 5:40 PM

He’s trying to up this number:

Even so, the action taken by Collins, Coleman and him (Warner) raised the number of Senate Republicans publicly opposed to the president’s plan to five. Sens. Chuck Hagel (news, bio, voting record) of Nebraska and Olympia Snowe (news, bio, voting record) of Maine have said they back the Democrats’ resolution.

Try making your window narrower and cut out the right side. That’s what I do…rather than take phenobarbitol!

IrishEi on January 22, 2007 at 5:54 PM

Nice to see the Z Man and Democrats again in agreement as always.

William Amos on January 22, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Someone better hand the wet wipes to Ted Kennedy and his gang, the boogy man is still after us… (I’m sure they have soiled themselves after hearing that tape).

Zorro on January 22, 2007 at 6:22 PM

I love how he tells us that they can defeat ten of our armies, then spends 90% of the tape trying to convince Muslims to help the jihad!

He really needs a better recruitment video.

IrishEi on January 22, 2007 at 6:26 PM

That advertisement on the right is about to cause me to have an epileptic seizure.

And I’m not even epileptic.

The RINOs are also on the side of the enemy. I’m really getting annoyed by the silence and/or absence of conservative voices in this country.

Given the choice, I’d much prefer the video to just a transcript. But I can’t speak Arabic or Pashtu or Farsi, so I need subtitles to go along with the original video.

Unfortunately, the videos that I have seen have illegible subtitles. So for me, they really aren’t worth much.

So it goes…

Anyway, I know you don’t actually make the vidoes/subtitles or transcripts. You just post what is out there. But yeah. I don’t know what the other readers are doing. But I always go to the original if I can.

EFG on January 22, 2007 at 7:16 PM

First Hillary. Now Zawahiri. The SOTU speech sure brings ‘em out of the woodwork. Who next? UBL?

ganeshpuri89 on January 22, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Unfortunately, the videos that I have seen [ON THIS POST] have illegible subtitles. So for me, they really aren’t worth much.

[The videos on other HotAir posts have been excellent with legible subtitles]

EFG on January 22, 2007 at 7:18 PM

Did he mention anything about forming an exploratory committee?

RedWinged Blackbird on January 22, 2007 at 7:26 PM

Um, did he just tell us to bring it on? Someone tell the Caliph he is wearing no clothes.

BohicaTwentyTwo on January 22, 2007 at 7:34 PM

That comes from reading the Koran – the most redundant book ever written – four hundred pages of “praise Allah and kill the infidels.”

Yep…too busy sending out their pollsters to see if the sky really fell, and if so just where they should stand to avoid soiling themselves. Take a poll damnit!

Limerick on January 22, 2007 at 8:37 PM

He then turns to the American people, reminding of past offers of security by reaching an “understanding” with Muslims,

Don’t forget he is still awaiting a reply from the Democrats for getting them elected…………

PinkyBigglesworth on January 22, 2007 at 9:22 PM

In fairness to Dr. Evil he has far superior political skills than the average Democrat/RINO senator. He understands the need to demoralise his enemies. If it weren’t for the fact that liberals have spent the last 30 years demoralising the West this war wouldn’t be happening. How weak do you have to be to be that you risk losing a war to a bunch of 7th century throwbacks? PC, multiculturalism, relativism. If the West wants to commit suicide then al-Qaeda are merelt a sympton of that neurosis.

NTWR on January 22, 2007 at 7:10 PM

The creeping cowardice I’ve seen lately, on both sides of the political fence sickens me.

I heard a RINO speaking on TV today assuring me that he ‘genuinely disagreed with the surge plan’.

Great. So WTF do you propose that would have a better chance of actual undeniable victory in Iraq and the greater ME?

Criticize, if you must, but damnit at least bring some proposed solutions along with that criticism.

Failure is simply not a sane or conscionable option, and is in no way in the interests of the United States in particular, and Western Civilization in general.

techno_barbarian on January 22, 2007 at 11:39 PM

NTWR,

That rant is agreeing with you, not targeted at you.

Laura Mansfield is working on a translation as I write this.

I wonder if Strategic Translations (”StratTrans”?) could be wooed as an advertiser on HotAir. Of course, maybe your mention was itself a “paid product placement.” :-) If so, it was effective; this is the first time I can recall having been made aware of the existence of Strategic Translations.

Kralizec on January 23, 2007 at 8:29 AM

The Dems and the terrorists on the same page regarding US policy? Nothing new here, move along please.

JackM on January 23, 2007 at 9:09 AM

it’s amazing how similar the policies of the democrats and the rhetoric of the fanatics who keep blowing up civilians are.
