Video: Hillary’s in; Update: Thatcher-esque, says McAuliffe!

On a Saturday morning? Sure, one of her advisors told Hotline — this way, she’s in the spotlight for the State of the Union on Tuesday. But then why not announce on Monday, when people are paying attention?
Amateur mistakes. I blame Bill.
Here’s the video. She’s surprisingly non-robotic, although I guess if you can train animals to perform on sitcoms, you can train Hillary to feign warmth for 30 seconds. The passages on health care and dialogue will have you choking on bile. Click the image to watch, and note the foliage through the window. Mark Finkelstein asks a good question.
Exit question: Is Hillary the best we can hope for among the Democratic nominees? Obama talks bipartisanship but votes a deep, rich blue. Edwards is running on a platform of class warfare. Of Gore let us say no more. Who’s left? Unless Mark Warner jumps in and figures out a way to beat all of them by running to their right, Hillary’s probably the most “conservative” (i.e., nominally hawkish) candidate in the pack. Terrifying.

Update: Bill Richardson really picked the wrong weekend.
Update: Good point at Time about Bill’s role on the trail:
One of the most interesting things will be watching how her campaign deals with a former President in the role of campaign spouse. If he stands next to her on stage, he overpowers her. If he campaigns alone on her behalf — the traditional “surrogate” role in which many spouses are most effective — it will likely appear that he is running for what is essentially his own third term. And if he stays out of sight? Voters start wondering again just what exactly is the deal with their marriage.
Update: Oh, the bile. The thick, salty bile.
HILLARY CLINTON is to be presented as America’s Margaret Thatcher as she tries to become the first woman to win the White House. As she entered the 2008 presidential race yesterday, a senior adviser said that her campaign would emphasise security, defence and personal strengths reminiscent of the Iron Lady.
“Their policies are totally different but they are both perceived as very tough,” said Terry McAuliffe, Clinton’s campaign chairman. “She is strong on foreign policy. People have got to know you are going to keep them safe.”

SisterToldjah – Most of the time, the auto-pingback hasn’t worked back to here (and back when I ran my blog on a subdomain of another domain I control, neither it nor the trackback ping worked). Oh well; must be WordPress 2.0.7 finally getting everything working right.
Led – How in the heck did that fact slip my mind? You can expect the alphabet soup talk shows to play it up tomorrow though.
steveegg on January 20, 2007 at 9:37 PM
Whenever anyone actually says they want to have a “dialog” what they really mean is that they want to pretend to listen to what you have to say and then tell you what they are going do. Completely disregarding anything you said.
The best word I can think of to describe Hillary is disingenuous.
The campaign should be interesting though. Her biggest asset is also her biggest liability – so how does she run with Bill?

Thatcher ?!Well La Tee Freakin Da !Gee I don’t remember Thatcher’s political career being poc marked with shadey land deals, mysterious suicides, extramarital affairs, stolen nuclear technology, non existant foriegn policy, ect. The Iron lady lived through WWII in England. I think the iron McAuliffe is refering to is made by Proctor Silex and comes with a board. Hmm Abraham Lincoln did say something about fooling all of the people some of the time didn’t he.

Says it all, really. Image, not substance.
Hillary is no Maggie Thatcher.
(Unfortunately, I suspect that the Republican nominee will be no Ronald Reagan, either.)

And what if Hillary leaves the Senate? Who says he might be interested in her seat? How about -
Another winner !

Am I the only one still praying that Howard Dean can’t resist and winds up jumping in the race again? The extreme left because the more mainstream Democrat with ever second of every day… it would be an interesting battle to see him battle Hillary.

Re: the foliage.
This could have been taped recently here in California, not somewhere back east. Afterall, Hollywood is a freind of Bill/Shillary.
Re: Margaret Thatcher.
I would pay good money for the real Iron Lady to take a real tire iron to this pretender.

So the question that I would ask her has 2 parts…
1…
Will you now publicly admit that Bill was molesting the chubby intern in the Oval Office (as well as others), and that there was no “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy”, and that you were completely wrong in your assessment of the situation back then (or just plain lying), and that due to your support for the villain in that drama more damage was done to the moral fiber of this country than would have been if you would have just slapped Billy down?
And 2…
Since you were so wrong back then about something that was happening right under your nose, and being perpetrated by someone you had known closely for decades, how can you now sit there and tell us that you should be put in the position of making decisions of national, and indeed international importance, and that involve adversaries who will have less respect for you than they will for your dog?
A bit long, but fun anyway…

“Their policies are totally different but they are both perceived as very tough,”
Well, that’s it in a nutshell. Hillary’s policies are NOTHING like Margaret Thatcher’s and that’s a fact.
Hillary is counting on the Democrats with their MSM cohorts running interference by a concerted slash and burn campaign against the Replublicans – supoena the beejeepers out of the Republican Party to tie them up in hearings and legal problems over the next two years, so that no Republican hopeful is able to organize an effective Presidential campaign. The one big lesson Hillary learned was that a Clinton doesn’t need a majority to win.
naliaka on January 20, 2007 at 11:36 PM
Hillary is the world’s number one enabler. If she couldn’t even reign in her philandering husband, what is she suppose to do with rogue states intent on our destruction? She redefines codependency.
I think that the Rebublicans will be able to run the “Yellow Dog” (i.e. anybody) against her and win.
Her ONLY salvation would be a credible 3rd party candidate that would syphon votes away from a Republican ala Perrot.
Mojave Mark on January 20, 2007 at 11:59 PM
***FAT CHANCE*** I’ll bet you three to one that the Sunday chat shows are full of Republican brokebacks all talking about how “formidable” Hillary is. In fact, THIS SITE has had a kind of feverish respect about how “great” a pol Hillary is. Even going so far as to conclude that the attempt to smear
Osamaer..OBAMA as a Muslim was too “heavy handed” to have come from Hillary. Was she a deft pol when she clumsily tried to nationalize health care? Was she deftly covering her tracks during White Water? How about Travelgate? Perhaps she was a grand master during the FBI files shenanigans?
Hillary Clinton is a bum. A run of the mill bum at that. She has none of her husbands charm and none of his balls. She has been caught in every deception she has attempted, the only difference is that the media doesn’t cover it. That’s all. If the MSM weren’t running interference for her she would have flamed out years ago. Now you don’t need the MSM to “reveal” her to the public, with new media and commercial money you can ‘out” her yourselves. IF John Kerry couldn’t get his traitorous behind elected, how would a woman who polarizes the entire country?
THERE ARE LIBERALS WHO WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HILLARY.
They’re the hand-wringers who are always worried about the opinion of the “ARAB STREET” well how do you think the “arab street” will feel about us if we elect a woman? Any woman? No, my friend, there are millions of MEN in this country who will never let this country be so weak as to be led by a womaN. PARTICULARLYTHISWOMAN.

Look on the bright side… if she does get in we’ll have another shot at impeaching a Clinton. I’m pretty certain she’ll do something impeachment worthy in the first few days being in office.
Maybe we could start a pool.

You’ve gotta hand it to the Democrats – the animation on that Hilary video was incredible. It’s so lifelike she could almost be a real person. Pixar must be fuming.
When will they release the bit where she morphs into evil Doctor Rodham and enslaves the world?

Hillary as America’s Margaret Thatcher my butt! Mrs. Thatcher didn’t have voice that made you want to stick icepicks in your ears. She wanted the people to keep more of their own money not like Hillary who said:
Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you,” Sen. Clinton said. “We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”
Well, for my common good, I’d like to have half your salary, so fork it over.

Hillary’s got one thing any of her Democrat nominee competitor’s don’t have, OODLES and OODLES of money. And lest we not forget where much of her money comes from … the Chinese, Saudi’s… and the French.

About what, exactly? Anything I’d want to talk to her about, she won’t want to discuss. Besides, every time she opens her mouth, the term “congenital liar” is all I hear.
This “Let’s chat” ploy is little more than, “Lisening Tour II.” The media will follow their assigned dual role as cheerleaders/blockers; their “coverage” of her will be as it has been all along, “Don’t ask, don’t tell.”
But at least now with Obama and Hillary we have two, count ‘em, two Messiahs in the race. I feel more saved than ever. Reminds me of a line from that old Dire Straits tune, “Industrial Disease:”
“Two men say they’re Jesus; one of them must be wrong.” It’ll be up to the donk media to tell us which.

The main propaganda line, wunwittingly said by Rosie about the Repubs but youknow how ‘projection’ works, and will be the “perception” point of Shillery:
“If you keep serving people crap and telling them it’s a meal, they’re eventually going to think it is a meal,” O’Donnell said.
So that the only thing the mush brained voters will say is “pass the salt and give us Shillery.”
Anin’t no way I would want that bitch in charge of this country. If anything would galvanize the right this time than this ploy by the Dems should do it. Bring back some real good conservative leaders and the damn Repubs had better not cave over these next two years.

No plastic surgery, it’s the simple way: just warm, slightly fuzzy focus. Blurs and obscures all the faults.
Which will be emblematic of the entire media campaign.

Entelechy…you really think Richardson will be Hillary’s veep? I do believe she’ll get the nod…only a matter of time before the Clinton machine puts Obama to rest…but I think she’d be better with a more liberal/left VP, to satisfy the leftist elements in her party.
Either way, the ‘08 election is going to be a doozy!

And this time she’s got an audience willing to listen. Creeping costs and a whole lotta retirements coming up mean sky high medical bills a few years down the road.
I wonder how complicated she can make it this time around…
jaleach on January 22, 2007 at 12:31 AM
JetBoy, for the leftie Left she only has to tread carefully to get through the primaries. After that she can ignore them (they’re not going to vote for any rightie). She will pick someone more balanced, security and foreign-policy-wise, energy experience, a Hispanic from N.M. will be a big prize.
The Black vote is de facto and this way she’ll aim for the middle, the independents and just more in number…Too far away and soooo much will happen btw. now and then. It’s all waaaay too soon and all entertainment/hype/speculation for now.
I find it curious that all the newbies on the Left are running against Mr. Bush, who will not be on the ticket…don’t they have anything to run, on their own. They’re great aspirations, to wish to be the president of the free world…no ideas, just blame, blame…thus hoping to subliminally convince us sheeple to vote for them…the electorate is not very smart but it can’t be this naive…
