Don’t let the thumbnail scare you. This is fiction. Boy, is it ever.
Anyone know where it’s from? It’s making the rounds on viral video sites, but when I google “this real muslim,” nothing turns up.
Update: Commenter Ropera says she thinks this is from the Turkish film “Valley of the Wolves: Iraq”, which would be staggeringly ironic if true. And it appears that it is. From the Wikipedia plot summary:
In a later scene, an execution of a Western journalist by Iraqi rebels is about to take place, but an esteemed-by-the-rebels sheikh prevents it and offers the journalist the opportunity to kill the rebel who was about to kill him—the rebel does not resist, but the journalist declines the offer.
What makes the scene ironic? The fact that “Valley of the Wolves” is a notoriously rancid piece of anti-American propaganda, which a quick click-and-skim of that last link will demonstrate. In particular, in a none too subtle update of a classic anti-semitic blood libel, it features Gary Busey as a Jewish-American doctor who harvests organs from injured Arabs. So there’s your “real Muslim” POV.

The guy only saved him cuz he’s a journalist and a useful idiot :P
lorien1973 on January 19, 2007 at 3:17 PM
I believe the actor is Ghassan Massoud (Syrian) who portrayed Saladin in Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven.
Probably this is an advance for a Syrian film, probably propaganda (Massoud is also a director and I think has some role in the government)
Ropera on January 19, 2007 at 3:18 PM
I think dismissing it as mere wishful thinking is a little harsh. It sends a message, and if it was indeed made by an Arab Muslim this is exactly the type of home grown film making that we should be encouraging.
Not to sound like a hippy leftist.

I want to know why he was getting back down on his knees at the end….

I believe the clip is from the movie Kurtlar Vadisi Irak (Valley of the Wolves Iraq), Turkish movie.

Recommend this video be submitted to every Madrassas school in the Middle East….

Can you buy that awesome soundtrack?
BelchSpeak on January 19, 2007 at 3:34 PM
Yep, that’s the one
“the film’s portrayal of the potential beheading of an American journalist. In this scene, the beheading is averted by the local sheikh (played wonderfully by Ghassan Massoud, who was last seen by Western viewers as Saladin in Kingdom of Heaven), who then offers the sword to the journalist for him to behead his erstwhile captors. The journalist refuses, uttering the words ‘I’m just a journalist. Do you understand?’.”

That video assumes a few things…
1: Muslims have consciences.
2: Their is such a thing as a “moderate Muslim”.
3: That everyone that watches that video is a moron and buys that BS.

This is the soundtrack album
Ropera on January 19, 2007 at 3:45 PM
It is an anti-American film made in Turkey (and we want these guys in the NATO?). Our friend Gary Busey was on it.
Ropera on January 19, 2007 at 3:48 PM
Don’t buy anything related to that movie. It’s a filty, anti-semitic, anti-American piece of agitprop. See my update.
Allahpundit on January 19, 2007 at 3:48 PM
Its the same thing with all muslim productions. They show you the 10% that makes them look good and avoids the 90% that makes them look bad.

This is what I’ve been trying to tell you guys, Islam is a religion of peace.
RightWinged on January 19, 2007 at 3:49 PM
This scene is from that movie? Interesting, considering the movie is overall Anti-American and horifically Anti-Semetic. This is the movie where US soldiers (led by Billy Zane) capture innocent Iraqis, then hand them over to a Jewish doctor (Gary Busey) who harvests their organs to sell on the black market to Jews worldwide. Read More.

And the Oscar for Best Foreign Film goes to…..

Oh, and the chick in the Crying Game is really a dude.
BohicaTwentyTwo on January 19, 2007 at 3:54 PM
That Gary Busey sure does get around.
KelliD on January 19, 2007 at 3:56 PM
Here’s the Kurtlar vadisi – Irak Valley of the Wolves trailer. There’s a very short clip at 1:34 of the journalist about to be beheaded.

Ropera,
…and Fahrenheit 911 was made in the USA. Your point?
jeffshultz on January 19, 2007 at 4:12 PM
I understand my point very clearly. I don’t understand yours.
Ropera on January 19, 2007 at 4:35 PM
I am disturbed by this, but then again this IS War.
While it is actually helpful for this to come out of Turkey (know your friends/enemies) and even other hostile Islamic countries – we have to struggle to get anything like it out of “our” Hollywood.
To be sure there have been many FICTIONAL portrayals of Muslims doing what they do. From their point of view telling the truth in documentaries and views of the truth in fiction is an assault.
Be that as it may, fiction is not the same as lies. I wonder hows Gary Busey and Michael Zane expect to get a job in the US after this. Weakness and sympathy that’s how. As for Ghassan Massoud from Kingdom of Heaven – it goes to show you sometimes it is about more than the money.
Agrippa2k on January 19, 2007 at 5:45 PM
Actually, the exact opposite of this scene is true. After a while , just cutting someone’s head off was’nt good enough for these pig f***ers, so they would only cut halfway through the neck and then stand around screaming alluha akbar while the person gasped for air and bled to death. That’s the real muslim.

Gary Busey!!!! Mebee he should have got some of them arab teeth.

I love you more than dykes love…”

From what I could interpret, the film wasn’t so much pro-muslim, anti-american as it was simply pro-Turkish – therefore Americans are evil, Jews are organ-harvesters, and the Arab muslims in Iraq are dimwits
In fact I believe Zombie had a review of the film on his site somewhere that conveys similar ideas

Ah, yes, and don’t you love the three videos that follow on from it:
- Pub @ Taiwan
- Shoe Shop Prank
- Cheating Wife
*two thumbs up*

I’m thinking Gary Busey needs to start riding motorcycles a bit more often. I’m just sayin’…
wccawa on January 19, 2007 at 10:19 PM
Don’t forget Billy Zane is in this film, too.
You may remember him as the @$$hole in Titanic.
No not that one.
This one.

On a related note, they just played an episode of Law And Order last night that opened with what looked like a taping of American Soldiers wearing ski masks pointing a machine gun at the head of an Arab guy (American Flag in the background), yelling “You filthy camel-jockies don’t belong in our country! You killed our friends in Irak, blah blah blah”, before executing him Haditha-style.
It was so sickening. I immedeatly turned it off.
Viewtifulgare on January 20, 2007 at 9:25 AM
“Law & Order” is written by monsters anyway. There isn’t a politically correct myth they won’t portray as absolute fact.
Not to mention the constant and grotesque violations of civil rights they excuse regularly.
The last one I saw had the “good guys” falsely imprison a man (deliberately) for “child molesting” to pressure his girlfriend to testify… when the dude was stabbed to death in jail, they blamed the girlfriend for his death.
They might as well set the damned show in Saddam’s Iraq, or North Korea. As far as I’m concerned, everyone involved in that show are criminally irresponsible.
Not that I have any strong opinions on the matter, of course. :)
