Video: Matthews says we shouldn’t fight Iran to be “the big sh*t” in the Middle East

Live, on-air profanity: it’s never not worth posting. It emerges here in the course of an anti-war point, too, which is surprising coming from a guy whom HuffPo assures is a noted conservative and of whom Andrea Mitchell has said, “I don’t think he’s a liberal thinker.”

Blowback

Who is “Matthews”?

Savage on January 18, 2007 at 12:03 PM

This is guy is going to implode on-air one day. I hope I get to see it.

d1carter on January 18, 2007 at 12:06 PM

‘So easy a caveman could do it.’

Readymade on January 18, 2007 at 12:07 PM

Just proved again what the HuffPoo is made of.

Matthews wasn’t always this crazy. He’s not aging gracefully, in spite of some given talents.

Entelechy on January 18, 2007 at 12:12 PM

Two theories:

1. Someone has to fill the void left by NYPD Blue. February Sweeps will feature Matthew’s bare ass.

2. Crab people.

rw on January 18, 2007 at 12:17 PM

I’d like to see the US become the big shit in the middle east. It could solve a lot of problems.

harrison on January 18, 2007 at 12:20 PM

I don’t really remember him being anything but this crazy but perhaps he once wasn’t.

Catie96706 on January 18, 2007 at 12:20 PM

I was way impressed with Duncan Hunter on Matthews show last night…he was brilliant and I need to investigate this Duncan Hunter fellow a little more…he might be my primary candidate if he keeps up that kind of talk…

canvas on January 18, 2007 at 12:23 PM

Ah profanity, that time-honored standby that lefties employ to let you know they’re really, really serious about something. Kos does this a lot too.

I personally find it all kind of trite and lame, but it obviously makes them feel pretty cool.

World B. Free on January 18, 2007 at 12:24 PM

Does he still have a show?

right2bright on January 18, 2007 at 12:31 PM

Huffpo is the foulest blog site I have ever read. I hear a lot about KOS but do not frequent them because I get their position (which I gather is the same as the MSM) along with rational coservative thinking from Fox.

Anyway, I read a wikipedia article on CM. Even though wikipedia’s articles can be edited by anyone with an account (and there is no fact checking other than by other members), it’s pretty clear that CM has had a wacky liberal bent since he was writing speeches for Carter in the 70’s.

He discredits himself from any consideration as balanced everytime he opens his mouth.

csdeven on January 18, 2007 at 12:37 PM

Does he still have a show?

right2bright on January 18, 2007 at 12:31 PM

Probably always will if the Fairness Doctrine is expanded far enough (who cares about ratings and that “supply and demand” nonsense – government should pay for all of it).

Rick on January 18, 2007 at 12:43 PM

This is nothing but a desperate publicity stunt, hoping to pull a couple “what wil he say next!?” viewers.

RightWinged on January 18, 2007 at 12:48 PM

Matthews jumped off the cliff after the 2000 primaries. He was shilling for McCain and came down with a bad case of BDS after Bush got the nomination.

KelliD on January 18, 2007 at 12:50 PM

Sad America…..

My family is Irish. All of it. My family came here in the 1890’s. My wife’s family came here in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Someone in this family has fought in every single war America has waged since 1917 with the exception of the First Gulf War. Guess you could say we are pretty conservative…..MOST of us. There is an outlaw. My sister-in-law in Wisconsin. Stay at home, watch TV, welfare-food-stamp-gimme my dole kinda American. Her world view is formed completely by Springer/Matthews/Couric/Gore/NBC/CBS/ABC/Ophra/Kennedy..needless to say the world is made of the following truths….
Kennedy was killed by the CIA.
Corporations sit on the board of directors in the Star Chamber.
Global warming is caused by America.
NOTHING the U.S. Government does is good.

There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of her that go to the polls while we sit around and chew-the-fat AND ALL THE MEDIA KNOWS IT. Bread and Circus is a MEDIA program and it seems to work quite well. DECEIT is a weapon that the MSM wield expertly. That weapon is trying to kill us all. Until we BANKRUPT the MSM nothing will change. So do you have the gumballs? Do you know how to BLOCK CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN? Or will that put you into withdrawls? Will you panic? Will the lack of American Idol and Grey’s Anatomy cause you to implode? Could you possibly LIVE if the NYT didn’t land on your doorstep? America votes with their pocket-book far better then it does on election day. Time to vote.

Somebody has to be the “Big Sh*t” might as well be us..

Viper1 on January 18, 2007 at 1:00 PM

If we listen to Tweetie we will be the Middle East!

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on January 18, 2007 at 1:10 PM

I actually used to like Hardball when it first started, but Matthews has over the years gone so left I can’t watch anymore. I agree with Entelechy, I don’t remember him always being this nutty.

vcferlita on January 18, 2007 at 1:11 PM

So, what do you guys have against Matthews? Sure he’s a Democrat and he’s very anti-war but he’s not nearly the partisan, talking-point-spouting, demagogue that Olbermann is. He makes his position known but I think he is always fair to his guests and isn’t afraid to have real conservatives on his show. Duncan Hunter and this Romney guy last night, Pat Buchanan practically lives on his set; who by the way is probably my favorite conservative because he’s honest, direct, and fair. But anyway, lately Matthews has been hammering liberals for their lack of a plan and their lack of balls as much as anything.

Hardball’s a good show if you like politics, even if you don’t like Matthews, because at least he isn’t on a self-righteous crusade to save the world every night. He brings on smart people and let’s them talk, something a lot of hosts could learn from him.

JaHerer22 on January 18, 2007 at 1:20 PM

Who is matthews…???…and why would I care about anything he says…

areseaoh on January 18, 2007 at 1:21 PM

Only in America would this little puke be tolerated.

rplat on January 18, 2007 at 1:21 PM

I’ve asked the question before, and now I’ll ask Ms. Matthews:

“Can you please tell me the exit strategy for Iran in Iraq?”

Answer:

They don’t have one,you Foxtrot Moron!

PinkyBigglesworth on January 18, 2007 at 1:25 PM

so all conservatives are extremists

that’s not a left position that’s an “American” position. yeah, sure if we’re suddenly a socialist nation run by lefty fascists.

One Angry Christian on January 18, 2007 at 1:25 PM

I too remember Matthews being entertaining and somewhat “fair.” A few years back he really gave it to James Carville, so much so Carville was frustrated and speechless. Now Matthews is nothing more than an arrogant, self righteous, anti-war, left wing lunatic on par with Olbermann

Capitalist Infidel on January 18, 2007 at 1:41 PM

I’ve said it before…liberal believe their “feelings” trump reality. They think, if we just walk away from the war, it’s like “undoing” the war, and it goes away. Just as they think aborting a fetus is just like “undoing” a pregnancy, and they never have to give it another thought. Or creating a new law “undoes” the crime.

The believe their thoughts are the same as actions, maybe even better than actions. And they aren’t interested in anyone contradicting them.

stonemeister on January 18, 2007 at 1:48 PM

One Angry Christian on January 18, 2007 at 1:25 PM

Well as of a 11/7 we are. And from all the success this Surge seems to be garnering it looks like come 2008, Red State may just have a new meaning.

JaHerer22 on January 18, 2007 at 1:53 PM

Potty mouth

Kini on January 18, 2007 at 2:03 PM

Yeah, Jaherer, Matthews’ extensive coverage of Plamegate was very, very objective and non-partisan.

Rick on January 18, 2007 at 2:05 PM

One Angry Christian on January 18, 2007 at 1:25 PM

Well, the ‘06 elections probably put us in the “socialist nation” category – at least until ‘08.

Rick on January 18, 2007 at 2:07 PM

I mean, sure he worked for Tip O’Neill and wrote speeches for Capt. Malaise, but….“I don’t think he’s a liberal thinker.” says Mitchell.

I agree Andrea.

And I don’t think he’s a smart-assed punk who needs a beating proper either.

Teddy on January 18, 2007 at 4:18 PM

JaHerer22 on January 18, 2007 at 1:20 PM

You’re right – except, that you described Matthews of a few years ago, when I watched him nearly nightly, but mostly on election nights because he so loved the politics, no matter who won or lost. Something happened to him lately and he looks/acts/speaks perturbed, often.

JaHerer22 on January 18, 2007 at 1:53 PM

Watch what you wish for – you might be the first victim.

Entelechy on January 18, 2007 at 5:05 PM

In 2000 – 2002, I remember Matthews being pretty down-the-middle on lots of issues, but for whatever reason, he has tacked hard to the left the last few years. For me, it started when he tried to pick a fight with Zell Miller after he gave the keynote address at the Republican convention in 2004.

And for JaHerer22 to assert that Matthews is “fair to his guests,” maybe he should look at the tape of how he treated our very own Michelle Malkin when she was on his show.

asc85 on January 18, 2007 at 6:14 PM

The only way to rid us of CM is Preparation H.

TugboatPhil on January 18, 2007 at 6:31 PM

When I force myself to watch Matthews to tape segments I was to vlog, I put up a spit guard on my TV to catch all the spittle that flies from his mouth as he slobbers. I noticed, also, that he slobbers the most when he’s talking about Scooter Libby. Ah, and I thought it was just a Summer thing for him. It’s still going on. Ick.

MsUnderestimated on January 18, 2007 at 7:40 PM

Matthews is on TV because he couldn’t make it as a lobbyist. He’s just another democrap mental midget (no offense to real midgets).

Zorro on January 18, 2007 at 7:54 PM

Well at least he got part of the equation right, the middle east is rife with shinola.
