Jones Zemkophill - Is that what happened? I remember when POM first came out in NY, it was about $2 a bottle and they were in glass bottles. Now they are $4.50 a bottle and they're in plastic bottles. Some of the other companies have started providing pomegranate juice (Naked Juice, Odwalla, etc) but I don't like any of those.....they always use a wierd "berry extract" that makes it taste odd to me. Trader Joes has a Pure Pomegranate that tastes decent and is only $2.50, but that's still a lot to pay for a 10oz bottle of juice.

#1: To hell with POM for causing sufficient shortages in the Pomegranate Market that they (Pomegranates) cost triple what they used to.

(Used to be I could buy 3 for a dollar... now I'm lucky if I can find them for a dollar each.)

#2: Anyone stupid enough to demand that there be less quality control in their food consumption, deserves whatever freaky disease or chemically induced injuries that their disruption of safety earns them.

#3: I already refuse to support POM because of #1... so really I don't know why I care.

Man, they can test that stuff on me anytime. It tastes great, but it's like $4.50 a cup down here. Not the kind of test defector01 describes, of course. More in the vein of a 'taste testing' role.

Personally, if the animal testing was so unimportant to POM that they were able to immediately drop it as soon as their pocketbook was threatened, then I doubt it was that important in the first place.

I'm not against animal testing in all instances, but, I believe that if you are going to test on animals, you should have a good reason for what you're doing. That reason should at least be good enough to withstand the threat of WF dropping your product.

<blockquote>I can’t wait for the Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice launch party where the “Beautiful People” will gather to celebrate the bunny saving wearing, of course, leather shoes, carrying the big leather handbag, wrapped in chinchilla. </blockquote>

Or simply wearing cotton clothing made from farms that destroy millions of insects yearly and deny usable habitat to hundreds of species of animals. Animal experimentation == bad. Wholesale slaughter == good. Go figure.

They're testing on animals to produce health claims. So now they'll only test on humans. Soo much better.

The animal testing would involve testing high concentrations of specific chemicals present in pomegranate juice for correlation/causation with respect to improved health outcomes. Think of the red wine studies, especially the reservatrol, falvorins, and various anti-oxidants.

The media are overly emotional and give PETA play, and suck people in with emotional arguments rather than facts or logic. Another reason not to patronize Whole Paychecks and other image only firms. If you're looking for good produce go to your local high-end providers, or help start your own high-end grocer, produce store, butcher, or provider of fresh prepared foods.

The city I live in has a WholeFoods within 1 mile of another 2 gourmet grocer/caterer as well as a slew of high-end specialty delicatessens, green grocers, butchers, fishmongers, cheesemongers, and caterers with fresh and frozen prepared meals. Whole Foods is at the low-end of these and is usually a disappointing experience for prepared foods. It's price to value ratio isn't there (same price as higher end stores but dramatically lower quality) and there is far too much green preachy crap (the vast majority of customers avoid the center of the store that has all the hippy stuff and stick with the periphery of produce, cheese, meat, fish, bakery, and prepared foods). WF is an image play rather than a company actually focused on high quality food. Great for projecting an image through your grocery purchases, but not great for providing high quality food for your family and guests. It's the logo stamped bag rather than the high-quality plain leather bag, or the Burberry plaid shirt rather than the bespoke Turnbull & Asser shirt, of course with a granola feel.

If the bunnies are tasting the juice, they are dumb bunnies. I love pomegranates, and this stuff does not taste like pomegranates. More like grape juice, IMO.

Plus it's a bit awkward to ask the supermarket employee,
"Where do you stock the Pom Wonderful, please?"

--> blank look

"You know, pomegranate juice?"

<blockquote>From the NYPost link:

PETA claims POM funds experiments in which male rabbits’ arteries are severed in order to make them impotent before they’re fed POM (so that researchers can study the juice’s effect on erectile dysfunction).

Is that serious? I am very anti-PETA, but that is really freekin’ strange if true.

What's really stupid is the fact that Whole Foods has a great big, shiny counter filled with the delicious dead animal flesh that they sell for evil humans to consume. But at least, they don't test the animals first before they slaughter them.

Silly question: Is it still terrorism if you terrorize a terrorist?

PETA somehow manages to stay off the media radar when they <strike>pull their stunts</strike> <em>terrorize</em>. Could we terrorize them and get away with it? Do two negatives make a positive?

Gee, so somebody tampers with a food product and response is to quit animal testing. Makes sense to me.

<blockquote>Why isn’t Ingrid Newkirk and her folloowers languishing at Gitmo as domestic terrorists?</blockquote>

Putting her in the same facility as the jihadis? I'm pretty sure that would actually violate Geneva Convention rules against cruel treatment.

For the jihadis.

Wow. They lefties really are taking control of key markets. It's interesting to see how they use capitalism to their advantage when it benefits them while claiming it's an evil tool of the devil when it does not.
