Dershowitz to rebut Dhimmi Jimmy’s speech on Palestine at Brandeis next week

Carter won’t debate him because “he knows nothing about the situation in Palestine,” which of course is a shameless lie. So Brandeis has brokered a compromise: Carter will speak, then Dershowitz will take the stage and respond.

And while Carter’s speaking, Dershowitz will be physically barred from the premises.

“I think the inaccuracies of Carter’s points have to be pointed out. Carter said he wrote the book in order to stimulate a debate, but he won’t debate. I’m debating him whether he’s there or not,” Dershowitz told FOXNews.com.

“If his chair is empty, then that’s his decision,” he said…

Dershowitz won’t be allowed in the gymnasium during Carter’s appearance because it is limited to university students, faculty and staff, but he will watch it from somewhere else on campus, said Brandeis spokesman Dennis Nealon.

What are the odds that Carter will stick around to listen? Slim, I’m guessing:

Dershowitz said he also plans to question why the former president and his Atlanta-based Carter Center accepted money from Arab donors. A review of the center’s 2005 annual report shows more than $1 million each has been contributed by such benefactors as the government of the United Arab Emirates, Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Fund of the royal family in Saudi Arabia.

“I will accuse him of having had his silence on Arab human rights bought by Arab money,” Dershowitz said.

Go read Michael Smerconish’s post at HuffPo about the striking change in Carter’s tone when he dared breathe the word “Dershowitz” to him.

Barring Dershowitz from the premises during Carter’s speech is pretty juvenile. Do the folks at Brandeis think Dershowitz will start hecking Carter from the audience?

On another note, I’m surprised you didn’t take this as an opportunity to show how a guy from Brooklyn is prepared to put a righteous beatdown on a dork from Georgia.

Slublog on January 18, 2007 at 10:52 AM

It goes against my grain to cheer for Dershowitz but I think I will make an exception on this one.

brtex on January 18, 2007 at 10:54 AM

I wish I could be there, I’m only 20 minutes from Brandeis!
Man I want to see Carter and Dershowitz go at each other.

Yes, it is juvenile to not allow Alan in when Jimmy is speaking, but I do appreciate that they are letting him speak that night and not a week later…the audience will get both sides of the story in one sitting…

The comments made by the Huffpo commenters are pretty enlightening themselves ;)

Be sure to scroll through the comments too. Holy Moley.

The cognitive dissonance at HuffPo is amazing. Just remember kids; the left doesn’t hate Joos, only Zionists. You know, Jews that want their own homeland.

Recent history should make one wonder if Dershowitz will even be able to say more than 3-4 words before the ’students’ rush the stage and protesters smother out any chance of rebuttal.

Whoah, the comments, once again plain evidence that facts do not matter to these people.

I heard the interview with Carter. I sound he made when Dershowitz’s name was mentioned was almost a “death rattle” I think Carter thought Dershowitz was listening and about to jump in. I really showed how fearful Carter is about being confronted on the subject.

dallas94 on January 18, 2007 at 11:33 AM

Wow. Two pages of comments at Huffpo and not one even attempts to tackle the issues raised in the post. Does it ever disturb people who run sites that seem to attract nothing but bigoted nuts?

frankj on January 18, 2007 at 11:34 AM

The commenters at HuffPo seem to believe that Bush stole the 2000 election (via the Supreme Court), that Palestine existed before the Balfour declaration, that Israeli bribes were responsible for the creation of Israel, that it was Israel who walked away from peace talks, that Israel is the problem, etc., etc., etc.

Sounds like they have read history books written pretty much by Herr Goebbels.

Natrium on January 18, 2007 at 11:35 AM

Love how the commenters brand Dershowitz a Republican for not falling into line with their Jew-hating (i.e., he “flies with two right wings,” and so on).

Even at first blush, it seems unlikely that a Jewish law professor from Harvard would be a Republican, but in any event, Dershowitz has stated the contrary in writing on numerous occasions.

Wow, the comments at HP are getting more and more deranged regarding Isreal. Even the Dershowitz piece on HP had a regualr minority of sane responses.

Clark1 on January 18, 2007 at 11:52 AM

I never thought I’d see the day Alan and I are on the same team. Wow, what a shocker. But when someone is right, and Alan is in this case, you support him(note to Kos, DU, HuffPo..support your country). He will dismantle Carter and his ignorant ranting. Go Alan, go Alan…

giggle giggle, I just flagged all of the posts as abusive except for one calling the palestinians cast offs. Don’t know how much of a difference it will make or if future readers will see it.

I thought schools like Brandeis encouraged discussion of ideas and debate….oh that is right only certain ideas….

robo on January 18, 2007 at 12:06 PM

Good point by shooter. Will the Brandeis administration take steps to ensure that Dershowitz will be able to speak uninterrupted?

aunursa on January 18, 2007 at 12:06 PM

The whole Brandeis thing reminds me of an old line from Mad magazine, circa 1970: A liberal is someone who tries to see the other guy’s point of view while being mugged.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on January 18, 2007 at 1:02 PM

Those HP commenters are truly out there. I especially liked the one that went off on Smerconish, and accused him of supporting Bush’s lies that killed innocent Iraqis and Americans (comparing it, of course, to what the Israelis have done and continue to do to the Palestinians).

I don’t understand how Jimmy Carter could accept money or support the Arabs in any event, since there are no rights for their women and have come under fire for other human rights abuses. Isn’t his wife, Rosalyn, a “Global Rights Activist”, as well?

Smells like hypocrisy to me. /sarc

I heard that Jimma got help writing his book from Micheal Moore. You know, adding more fluff between the paragraphs.

Kini on January 18, 2007 at 2:10 PM

A mask is required to eliminate the stench from most of the HuffPoo commenters. Some even claim to be Jewish…

I predict that Mr. Dershowitz will be booed in the first 2 minutes and that he will come back like a cannon and set them straight.

Entelechy on January 18, 2007 at 4:57 PM

The message board on HuffPo regarding that article was startling.

Is the left-wing of America becoming anti-Israel? I never would have thought that, considering so many Jews are politically to the left. Something which I could never understand. And yes, I can make these comments because I’m Jewish and conservative. Rare, but true. I’d like to say that maybe the Jews will wise up and finally vote Republican, but time after time, and issue after issue, they just can’t do it. I think it’s in Jewish DNA, but for whatever reason, I’ve overcome that.

asc85 on January 18, 2007 at 6:07 PM

asc85,

The 9/11 terrorist attack woke me up. I had voted Democrat for president for each of the previous four elections. I didn’t wake up all at once … it wasn’t until after I attended an anti-war rally (as a ProtestWarrior, not an LLL) and saw the venom directed toward Israel and America that I came around. I am kind of a 9/11 Republican (read this column.)

More and more Jews are coming around.

Do you know what it looks like yet?

aunursa/Cinnamon,

Thank you for your comments, and I read the link to your article that you provided.

I hope I didn’t come off as smug regarding my political beliefs. It can just be very frustrating and embarrassing (sp?) to be part of a group that is by-and-large well-educated, but by-and-large doesn’t know diddly about politics.

Believe it or not, my parents were conservative, which probably is a big reason why I believe the things I believe. My parents are an even rarer group of Jews, because they have been politically conservative since the late ’60’s!

asc85 on January 18, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Jimmy has more splainin’ to do now.

Uh oh!

Someone needs to get him back to the retirement home before he hurts someone.

I just read the comments at Huffpo. One comment really struck me. To paraphrase: “The Palestinians are stuck behind a prison wall.” Funny thing about this wall, it does not totally surround them. Palestinians have NO WALL between them and the countries of Jordan, Egypt and Syria… (correction, there is a wall between Egypt and the Gaza, wonder why?)
I pointed this out to a Gaza blogger several months ago and her response was “yes, but… Israel has the ports to export goods and the jobs.” Do you remember several months ago when Israel closed the border between Gaza and Israel? We read all these stories about strawberries rotting in their flats, unable to be shipped to market?
My counter was well, if the Arab world wanted to help out the Palestinians then why don’t they build ports and send capital for job creation to the Palestinian people? God knows that the oil rich Islamic nations have the dough… They could have a port built in no time flat… just hire the bin Laden construction company out of the KSA.
Oh dear, no response.
