No! It had to be some shady european types that actually did it! Surely nobody from the religion of peace would do such a thing!

CAIR is gonna be outraged! Oh the huge manatee!

It was the Episcopal Brotherhood, reports are now coming in that they have claimed responsibility, and will be issuing a list of demands.. stand by for updates..

It is a plot by the evil FBI to lock up every middle-eastern looking male between the ages of 17 and 50.

LonelyMassRepublican on January 16, 2007 at 6:33 AM

Holy crappy special effects Batman!

Seriously though… RACIST! What was that about an “Arabic phrase”! Stop racial profiling now! I’m outraged. I’m getting the ACLU, the ADL, and the AARP (just because) on the phone right now!

I’ve never actually watched this show, not because I have a problem with it, but because I just don’t feel like I have time to squeeze in another show to watch weekly… But who was that hot broad who read that Arabic phrase anyway?

RightWinged on January 16, 2007 at 7:08 AM

A spoiler in the headline?? Oh well, I haven’t wanted to watch 24 since they offed Bauer’s wife at the end of the first season… only after her daughter was kidnapped, then she was kidnapped, raped, realized she was pregnant — from her husband, not the rapist (yay! a happy moment!), escaped amid gunfire, watched her daughter explode in a car wreck (or so she thought), and got amnesia and forgot her family and who she was. When she finally snapped out of that, she found out her husband was kidnapped… and finally that her daughter was kidnapped again! A woman like that deserves a semi-happy ending, at least in the first season! But no, the writers (who consider themselves “subversive”, according to the DVD) had her plugged in the last episode. Call me sentimental, but I felt a bit manipulated by all that. (Why bother with her being pregnant, for instance??)

But if they’re actually incorporating likely sources of terrorism in the plot now… hmm. I might have to give it another shot.

insomni on January 16, 2007 at 8:53 AM

and the AARP

Heh. That was funny. I never got into 24. My wife and kids on the other hand…I can’t pry them away from the TV.

vcferlita on January 16, 2007 at 8:54 AM

Well, If you are going head to head with Heroes, and they have a nuclear man go off, why not have Bauer deal with a nuclear bomb? It’s the nuclear titans going head to head. Luckily, I can still watch both shows – Heroes is on Friday on SciFi. Can’t miss my newly annointed “PC 24”. Let’s hope that Peter McNicol’s character starts going all Dragonslayer on the Muslims and throw them all into American concentration camps while simultaneously eating Muslim children alive. He can use a Palestinian kaffiyeh as a napkin. Ffffft, Fffffft, Ffffft Clarice.

NeoConSnakePlissken on January 16, 2007 at 8:57 AM

What makes the show so good, at least for me now that I’ve discovered it, is that it gives *flesh* to the headlines and news reports I read everyday. AND it’s the one program that seems to show Americans actually wanting to survive instead of quietly and deceivingly being lead off to our own *gas chambers* by the Left.

jatfla on January 16, 2007 at 9:04 AM

Let’s hope that Peter McNicol’s character starts going all Dragonslayer on the Muslims and throw them all into American concentration camps

I don’t think that’s possible, Halliburton has already built those concentration camps and they’re built to hold all liberals……not enough rooms for the Muslims

I wasn’t watching at that point. I suffered through the first 3 hours and had had enough political correctness and switched channels. I won’t be watching this year and it appears that “24” has jumped the shark.
Oh well it was a good show while it lasted. I am curious though. Which white guy planted the bomb and allowed it to detonate?

LakeRuins on January 16, 2007 at 10:39 AM

You had to be watching a different show than the rest of us, or you just weren’t paying attention. The only political correctness I saw was done in such a way that it was obvious they were pointing out how idiotic it is.

Gregor on January 16, 2007 at 11:05 AM

Lake Ruins, I was thinking the same thing! There’s nothing future seasons can do now with any continuity.

1) Jack should be blind for looking at the blast.
2) If he is that close, Jack should be dead. (Oh, wait, TV. It’s a special, non-blinding nuke and that was marshmallow)

4 more out there? Now Jack may have to get to 4 more locations, all unknown, across America, in less than 1/2 of a day to disarm all of them.

It’s like the writers just gave up.

2) If he is that close, Jack should be dead. (Oh, wait, TV. It’s a special, non-blinding nuke and that was marshmallow)

They pointed out it was a 1 kiloton weapon. That’s about 1/12 the size of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki weapons, or about 500 2,000-pound JDAMs. That’s big, but when you’re used to theorizing about megaton-class city-killers, the lethal blast radius wouldn’t be especially large–definitely a tactical yield, not a strategic one.

Also, you might note that the initial bright flash is what called everyone’s attention to the explosion. They weren’t looking towards the blast before then. If one’s eyes are going to be damaged, it’d be by that initial photon surge. Looking at the resulting mushroom cloud wouldn’t do anything.

What I wonder if they’re going to go into–and what we are likely going to have to face if Islamists ever detonate a clandestine nuke on American soil–is that, very much unlike Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this was a ground-burst, not an air-burst. Air-bursts are more optimal in that they cause a wider field of damage, and as the biggest source of direct radiological contamination is the bomb casing itself, the long-term fallout affects are low (hence, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are habitable today).

As I understand it, in a ground-burst the direct blast affects are muted by much of the energy being directed into the ground, resulting in a smaller area of blast damage. However, the side-effect of this is that tons of soil are exposed to the direct, hard radiation that only touches the bomb casing in an air-burst, which is then dug out and hurled into the air to fall in a plume all around the blast site. This results in a large swath of land rendered lethally radioactive for centuries. So if a ground-burst nuke were set off in Valencia (or Manhattan), there would be no recovery and rebuilding; that piece of real estate would have to be permanentely cordoned off and effectively cease to exist.

As for our Arabic-translating CTU hottie, that’s Marisol Nichols, who the three of us who watched it might remember from the short-run cop drama “Blind Justice.” As I recall reading somewhere, she’s also a devout Scientologist.

Hmm…Scientology. Perhaps we have a potential adversary group for next season?

Also, you might note that the initial bright flash is what called everyone’s attention to the explosion.

Look at the clip again. According to the flash and shadow, Jack was looking towards the blast. Plus, the radiation, ect. He needs treatment. I probably wouldn’t wait.

So if a ground-burst nuke were set off in Valencia (or Manhattan), there would be no recovery and rebuilding; that piece of real estate would have to be permanentely cordoned off and effectively cease to exist.

I’m not sure about that. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are both rebuilt and thriving. And that bomb was only 1/12 the size?

Scientology… Will they have the aliens attack?

The weapons used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were air-burst, not ground-burst, which was precisely my point.

Blacklake on January 16, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Plus, Israel already has nuke technology, and if they can spark a war/retaliation of the US against Iran/Syria/Mecca…etc, it would save them the trouble of having to do it themselves.

And who was the guy selling the detonator? Mossad perhaps?

And with Fayed dead, who will be pulling the terrorists strings now?

/just a theory

Im_no_dhimmi on January 16, 2007 at 12:22 PM

I never watched 24 until this season, so now I have 4 hours under my belt. I always liked KS as an actor, and I enjoy seeing him on screen.

As for the rest of the cast, they are so bad, casting them must have been done intentionally to make KS look better.

The people in the control room (with all the computers, whatever the hell it is) are played by actors and actresses who would have difficulty landing a spot as a walk on in a 6th grade production of Our Town. That one girl, the one who always frowns, is so ludicrous looking that I doubt I’ll ever get her face out of my mind. They should send her into the terrorists den . . . they’d all die laughing.

Labamigo on January 16, 2007 at 12:36 PM

Like Jack, I have a Treo. While searching a site today for free Palm software, I noticed that 3 of the top 10 programs (downloaded last week) are Korans (Qurans?).

Maybe it’s just me, but it strikes me as odd that followers of the ROP, who want to bomb us Westerners back to the stone age, gotta have Mohammed on their PDA.

Hey it’s Principal Wood from Buffy!

Glad to see he’s getting work

Dudley Smith on January 16, 2007 at 12:47 PM

By the way, where did Jack get that superphone, anyway? I missed when he picked it up.

Four hours ago he was in his pajamas on a slow plane from China, now he’s pulling off one-handed three-way-conference-calls to numbers he still has memorized after a year or two of real Asian-style torture (as opposed to the “a mean girl made me look at her cleavage!” GITMO kind).

I can’t even figure out how to delete my text messages. But maybe that’s just one small part of why I’m not Jack Bauer.

Blacklake on January 16, 2007 at 12:59 PM

For the folks that don’t see the PC in “24” this year here are some of what I see as PC run amok.
1) CTU enlists the aid of a Hezbollah terrorist to track down a Hamas terrorists.
2) White folks across the street defend Muslim folks across the street, only to wind up being terrorized by the teenager but they are right the parents aren’t bad. (See not all Muslims are terrorists)
3) Father of family being held hostage goes to pick up package from terrorist that is being held by, standby, a white guy. In the ensuing disagreement daddy kills other guy. (No Muslims here, move along)
4) FBI building internment camps and throwing everybody in them who doesn’t do exactly what they are asked to do or requested to do. (See it is exactly what BuchCheneyMcHitlerHaliburton want to do if not for the rights defending liberals who are preventing it)
5) While arranging release of prisioners from a Gitmo type facility a, get this, another white guy helps the terrorist escape.
6) We have CAIR like lawyers being thrown in detention by the evil FBI.
7) Redneck down the street who threatens Muslim family winds up getting killed by Muslim teenager who isn’t a terrorist. /huge sarc
8) FBI abusing authority by requesting all kinds of documents which of course the liberal ACLU type lawyer shreds/deletes thereby landing her in a detention. (Gets out because she is Presidents sister)
9) CAIR guy gets abused by guys wearing BDU’s (Just like Gitmo)

And meanwhile in the background there is Fox news running with the latest death toll I think something like 900 from bombings in 11 cities.

LakeRuins on January 16, 2007 at 1:02 PM

I am pretty sure Van Wilders assistant turned out to be a terrorist at the culmination of his character. The larger question is: did he take it through the car wash?

Its a TV show. I swear some people will quibble about anything. Its like Star Wars nuts saying Jar Jar Binks was unrealistic .

As for the PC stuff. Who wants to make odds that Addas ends up burning CTU showing the futility of negotiating with these people .

Sammy316 on January 16, 2007 at 1:39 PM

Heroes on NBC.

24 on Fox.

And me without Tivo….

Heroes is repeated on SciFi and on NBC in reruns.

24 is neither, though I noted that the 1st 4 hours of this season’s 24 is ALREADY on sale today.

Decisions, decisions…..I’m going to have to plan this very carefully.

georgej on January 16, 2007 at 3:20 PM

Blacklake gave a good explanation on why Jack wasn’t blinded or why he won’t die of radiation poisoning.

But there is a simpler explanation.

Bauer has “MCP” also known as “Main Character Protection.” Not just simple MCP — but MCP with “Main Star Support.”

Yep. That’s why he never gets shot (the bad guys always miss, even when using automatic weapons). That’s why he always gets out of whatever plot entanglement hardly the worse for wear. That’s why he won’t die from a nooclee-ear blast or it’s effects.

MCP, with main star support. The magic of being a main character in a TV drama also results in regular paychecks for several years running. What a gig!

georgej on January 16, 2007 at 3:28 PM

George… I forgot about that! He made his saving throw!

Mazztek on January 16, 2007 at 3:33 PM

And with Fayed dead, who will be pulling the terrorists strings now?

Fayed wasn’t there. He’s big on sending guys to Allah, but not so big on making the trip himself. So he’s a plausible terrorist so far.

Jim Treacher on January 16, 2007 at 3:43 PM

So far, I’m not impressed with the overall quality of this seasons show. The president’s sister is unconvincing — especially since there was barely any mention of her in the past seasons and she ends up conveniently being this overly self-righteous damn-the-consequences liberal lawyer working for an islamic advocacy group. Jack, Cloe, Curtis and Bill have all been strong. All the new players are extremely weak, including the new President Palmer.

That said, the story in general is compelling, even if we’ve been through it before — I believe season 2 or 3 had Jack flying a suitcase nuke out of Los Angeles and into the desert just minutes before it detonated. And oh look, there are four other devices. Big surprise there.

Still, seeing a mushroom cloud rising over a U.S. city is not a happy sight and I look forward to seeing Jack snap back to reality and kicking some terrorist ass.

jasnell on January 16, 2007 at 4:45 PM

Fayed wasn’t there

Oh, right. I watched it again…I had missed the part where Fayed leaves for the safe house. But he would have had just under 30 minutes to get far enough away to be safe, and that’s not much of a safety cushion.

Im_no_dhimmi on January 16, 2007 at 5:54 PM

pocomoco on January 16, 2007 at 10:11 AM

“El dante”? That’s either really bad Italian or a pretty clever play on words.

Valencia? Since the show was up against the golden globes they should have nuked Hollywood.

Jose Chupacabra on January 16, 2007 at 9:39 AM

Obviously, this wasn’t an option. If you are going to make a big deal out of nuking something, it has to be either obscure or popular enough so that the audience won’t cheer that it’s gone. That rules out Hollywood, and for that matter every well known part of LA.

We have now seen the face of The Mythical Moderate Muslim. And he’s bonkin’ the President’s sister.

Sheesh.

MostlyHarmless on January 16, 2007 at 10:09 AM

What’s even more fitting about the whole thing is that he doesn’t know the language. That probably means that he probably doesn’t know a whole lot about the religion either, hence, he’s moderate.

As for the PC stuff. Who wants to make odds that Addas ends up burning CTU showing the futility of negotiating with these people.

Well why not? Last season President Bush had the white, secular Russian seperatists (I don’t think any of that square with reality) gas the place. On season two the white mercenaries that were working for the terrorists blew the place up. Both times it was like nothing had happened within three hours, what’s a little fire going to do?

The biggest betrayal I’ve yet seen on the show is that Jackie (I no longer feel that he’s man enough to be called something as masculine as Jack) killed Curtis, a patriot and hero, to save a terrorist who has given zero reason to believe he has reformed.

And about the PC thing, just because it’s outrageous doesn’t mean they don’t believe it. Just look at the Truthers if you need proof of that.

Wolfman on January 16, 2007 at 9:48 PM

jack is plenty masculine. curtis was going to kill someone VITAL to the investigation. sorry currrrty boy

blatantblue on January 16, 2007 at 11:24 PM

If this was real life, Jack would be still in supply bsing with some guy who has nothing to do with anything but just for the sake of doing a jobing asking him why he needs the equiptment and they be scrutinizing the sheet he handed in to get what ever he needs, they liable to have made him retype the pages because he put something on the wrong line and that is while he is in his PJ’s from China.
