Video: Sheldon Brown levels Reggie Bush

posted at 2:08 pm on January 15, 2007 by Allahpundit

Slim pickings today. Holiday weekend, not much going on. Never before, I believe, have we had to raid YouTube’s fridge this early in the afternoon.

This one’s worth it, though. I saw it live on Saturday and almost cut it myself; as it is, there are about 20 different versions of it on YT. Simply one of the best hits you’ll ever see, guaranteed to quicken the pulse of every beta male who’s ever dreamed of being able to bring the pain this ferociously.

Miraculously, Bush wasn’t injured.

I watched this and I have very seldom seen a harder or cleaner hit…that is football.

DoctorDentons on January 15, 2007 at 2:17 PM

Myeh. Did his head pop off? Noooooo.

see-dubya on January 15, 2007 at 2:17 PM

He got lit up.

EnochCain on January 15, 2007 at 2:21 PM

Good smash mouth football.

Mortis on January 15, 2007 at 2:27 PM

It’s a good thing Bush didn’t get hurt. If he did get injured the NFL would probably ban shoulder-on-torso contact.

We’re about three more serious injuries to putting flags on the players and banning hits altogether.

Hoodlumman on January 15, 2007 at 2:28 PM

Seriously, what they call roughing the passer once was called a sack.

EnochCain on January 15, 2007 at 2:31 PM

That was one of the most ferocious hits I ever saw. When I saw it on Saturday, I was sure that Bush had some ribs broken. He has to be as tough as nails to get up and have the game he did.

jman on January 15, 2007 at 2:34 PM

Clean as a whistle; what a hit.

Jaibones on January 15, 2007 at 2:35 PM

I think this is some of the “needless violence” Rangle was talking about MLK being against. It’s definitely needless … and absolutely a hell of a lot of fun.

heh.

One Angry Christian on January 15, 2007 at 2:36 PM

I think this is some of the “needless violence” Rangle was talking about MLK being against.

One Angry Christian on January 15, 2007 at 2:36 PM

Exactly. African American kids such as Bush are having to resort to suffering years of violence in the NFL and NBA because of the lack of opportunities in today’s society.

Gregor on January 15, 2007 at 2:41 PM

If they don’t want to see serious injuries, they should actually crack down on steroids. That was a bone rattling hit.

PRCalDude on January 15, 2007 at 2:42 PM

That HAD to make Reggie Bush blow a snot bubble.

Ouch…

Dr. Gecko on January 15, 2007 at 2:42 PM

This is not needed nor necessary. Flag football would be just as entertaining.

Wade on January 15, 2007 at 2:42 PM

I thought the ball was his helmet flying off at first.

Doooooooood.

The hit will quicken their pulse because they fear that kind of pain upon their soft beta asses, not necessarily because they wet-dream with laying that kind of manly hit.

This is the kind of hit that makes the Castrati reach for a fresh man-pon.

Kid from Brooklyn on January 15, 2007 at 2:48 PM

Heh. I reached for a fresh man-pon, I admit it.

A little man-pon disclosure, for the rest of our esteemed readership.

Kid from Brooklyn on January 15, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Reggie definitely made ESPN’s JACKED UP!!!! reel this week.

Ed Driscoll on January 15, 2007 at 3:03 PM

Anyone see the Patriots game? What the hell was going on at the end of that thing. The screw ups at the end were worse than the Cow Boys a couple of weeks ago. So many interceptions by Brady. So many personal fouls by the Chargers. For almost the first half there wasn’t a single yellow flag then they started flying.

zerodamage on January 15, 2007 at 3:05 PM

Yeah, but the Eagles LOST. That’s what counts.

I love the sound of Eagles fans going silent, first, and then crying.

SWLiP on January 15, 2007 at 3:11 PM

SWLiP on January 15, 2007 at 3:11 PM

I don’t see any crying on this thread. The Saints played an excellent game and the Eagles played a mediocre game without their starting QB. Despite this, the Saints still could not crush them.

I think the majority of Eagles fans are proud of what they accomplished this year. Year in and year out the Eagles seem to rise from the ashes. Next year will be no different.

jman on January 15, 2007 at 3:21 PM

They seemed to be doing pretty good without their starting QB before this game…

EnochCain on January 15, 2007 at 3:23 PM

With that being said, I will be the first to admit that it would be nice if they did not carah and burn in the playoffs every year, but it is nice to have a consistently good team.

Thanks Kid, now I have to try to get THAT image out of my head. :O)

PinkyBigglesworth on January 15, 2007 at 3:25 PM

None of this would have happened had the Texans drafted Reggie Bush.

The important thing is the Eagles lost.

See if you can get some video of LaDainian Tomlinson whining like a baby and skulking off the field after the Chargers gagged against the Patriots.

I refuse to call him LT. There was only one LT.

JammieWearingFool on January 15, 2007 at 3:27 PM

They seemed to be doing pretty good without their starting QB before this game…

EnochCain on January 15, 2007 at 3:23 PM

True. I was not putting down Garcia. He did a great job in the regular season. I think, however, that he would have done even better had he had a full season with the offense.

jman on January 15, 2007 at 3:30 PM

I hope Urlacher does the same thing next week, because if the Saints make it to the Superbowl we’re going to have to sit through four hours of pre-game Katrina crap and Bush bashing.

Scot on January 15, 2007 at 3:33 PM

That hit ought to knock his IQ down a few points…almost low enought to register as a Democrat!

stonemeister on January 15, 2007 at 3:34 PM

Wow.

Seeing all the announcers fawn over Reggie Bush makes me kind of glad Brown put the hurt on him.

Nonfactor on January 15, 2007 at 3:36 PM

Yeah, great hit, but Philly still lost, dammit! But I’m used to it. As I’ve been sayin’ my whole life: “Oh well, maybe next year.” Unlike the fair weather fans who jump from team to team.

Tony737 on January 15, 2007 at 3:40 PM

Anyone know if that was DeMarco Farr doing a bit of the announcing?

Nonfactor on January 15, 2007 at 3:42 PM

I saw that too Jammie. Here’s some vid of it.

Thanks for depressing me! Not much of a choice there is it?

I don’t want the Bears to go to the SB because then I got to hear how friggin great they are from the yahoo’s at work. Although watching the Bears get blown away 55-0 would be awesome.

Saints/Bears……thanks for nuthin Odin!

VikingGoneWild on January 15, 2007 at 4:13 PM

Is this a ’24′ promotion?

mbredmond on January 15, 2007 at 4:16 PM

Scot on January 15, 2007 at 3:33 PM

I am taking a similar but different tack. Let’s have the Saints win the superbowl so that the “NOLA/Katrina-how good this is for the region” story will be complete and played out. Then we don’t have to hear about if for the next two or three years.

As for the Reggie Bush hit: that was a decleating to warm John Madden’s heart.

Mallard T. Drake on January 15, 2007 at 4:17 PM

That was INCREDIBLE! It’s a shame we didn’t win the game, but when you’re a Philly fan the question isn’t “will we win?” It’s “How will we blow it this time?” Punting on 4th and 15 with less than two minutes left?????? Reid bugs me.

danarchy on January 15, 2007 at 4:29 PM

Punting on 4th and 15 with less than two minutes left??????

I thought that was the worse coaching decision I’ve ever seen. No explanation possible.

Gregor on January 15, 2007 at 5:34 PM

I was in a sports bar in Philly when “Shut Down” Sheldon Brown laid that hit on Bush. The crowd went crazy!!!

That was the 2nd play of the game.

But the Eagles lost, and again we have no championship. And I swear, there was some bad voodoo in that game!

budorob on January 15, 2007 at 5:40 PM

Brutal!

“Don’t Get Eliminated!”

batperez on January 15, 2007 at 7:05 PM

Apologies to the LT fan, but there was only one LT? Yeah, he was a coke machine. The LT of old couldn’t hold this LT’s jock-strap. This LT seems to be a classy guy. I don’t blame him for his reaction to what a few of the no-class Pats were doing. We need more of these LT’s and fewer of the old LT’s…..

ritethinker on January 15, 2007 at 7:09 PM

Hey, I was there…the boy took that hit…and then came back to play. Got to give him credit…

Us Saints fans have been waiting about 4 decades for them to get this far. We played a mediocre game, Brees was not playing his A game, and our defense and Deuce won the game. We had some eagle gumbo, had a few brews, and passed a good time cher….

In all honesty, even if we get to Miami and are able to but the slap down on Brady, the politics will not change. We know how to have some fun down here, but I am guessing that even Satan is envious of how corrupt our politicians are….

The Pats Chargers game showed allot of no class on both teams. Head-butting a player after the play is dead comes to mind.

Dancing on the field so you get penalized for it also rings a bell.

In the end it was a very sloppy game that the Chargers lost and the Pat’s did not win.

I expected more from the Pats frankly.

I hope next week the Pats will refrain from some of the actions displayed on the field yesterday.

I say this as a Pats fan BTW.

the new LT and you failed to mention the times when the Chargers pulled this crap on other teams 50 yard line this year by their “suspended for drugs” loser. So what goes around, comes around. Can’t take it LT and the loser Chargers, don’t dish it out. You can watch the rest of the season from home with the Eagles and Cowboys.

Wade on January 16, 2007 at 10:55 AM

Ah, such a nice hit. Couldn’t happen to a better guy. All through the Rose Bowl, I had to listen to the announcers suck USC a** and brag about how great Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart were..then they lost. Sweet memory. All I saw from Bush that game was tackle and block dodging that would do Deion Sanders proud. To see him knocked out of his jockstrap above..priceless.

austinnelly on January 16, 2007 at 11:22 AM

LOL….you guys are killing me. I’m not a Chargers fan for your info, I pull for the pathetic Vikings(Minnesota for those uninitiated). The Frozen Chosen. My defense simply was of LT, not the Chargers. I was fortunate to watch and pull for Philip Rivers in college(an NC State grad and I live in NC). Someone mentioned Lawrence Taylor and that this LT is not worthy of that monikor. Well, the old LT was a POS. This LT seems to be a pretty good guy. He was pissed about losing the game and the lack of class shown by some of the Pats, some, not all. I don’t blame a guy for that. As for the Chargers, I couldn’t give a rip…..

Anyone see LT score this year(you had to, he did it thirty plus times)? What does he do? Hands the ball to the ref and goes to the sidelines. How refreshing is that, a guy acting like he’s been there before…..

Don’t blame LT for the low-rent, low-class attitudes of his team-mates…………..

ritethinker on January 16, 2007 at 11:50 AM

After cooling down from Saturday night, I have to agree. After the way the season fell apart last year, another 6-10 record would have put the franchise into a tailspin. Winning the division after losing our best offensive and defensive players, and outlasting the Cowboys and Giants in the playoffs makes it a pretty good year, and there is plenty to build on for next season.
