This brought to mind one of the angriest, funniest comic novels which includes some ‘gallows humor’:
“Riotous Assembly” by Tom Sharpe-has anyone else read it?
I know this will sound like wishful thinking to some, but I think we are a lot closer to a self sustaining Iraq than is reported. Iraqis would have to be inept fools to not be ready to stand on their own after all this time. I think strengthening their borders to keep Iran/Syria from sending in destabilizing terrorists would help a lot. If it works there, maybe we’ll try it here also.

I, for one, don’t give a bleep if the execution isn’t considered humane or dignified. Saddam and his henchmen killed thousands of people with inhumane methods.

In this case, the bastard who lost his head, died in the way he deserved.

Quite right – except for the inane overcoverage of the execution – that’s what is really obscene since these same media geniuses didn’t care one bit about the real victims of Saddam or his henchmen.

Rope too long – gruesome death by decapitation.

When I read this I remembered watching Greta Van Susteren the night Saddam went to the gallows. She was interviewing one of her regular forensic pathologists (I can’t recall his name) about how hanging works. I remember the doctor mentioning that they have to get the rope right because if the they dont, “…sometimes the head comes off.” (his words).

So, who knows…was it precognition? Just another example of how Iraqis have trouble getting this “civilized execution” thing right? Or did somebody over there see this, or hear about it and say “Hmmmm….wonder what THAT would be like?”

In any event, whichever Iraqi parliamentarian said that decapitation is impossible during a hanging isn’t a fan of “On the Record”.

I understand this is the new era in hanging; one where the vixtim is immediately cut down upon the drop. This could theoretically cut back on the on-the-job back injury index of correctional officers.

I say CSI hits on this subject by next season.

I will say this, though. If all hangings end in rank decaptitations, then this guy will be out of a job.
