Quote of the day

posted at 3:54 pm on January 15, 2007 by Allahpundit

Dedicated to our pal THeDRiFTeR, who once wondered why anyone would object to Cindy Sheehan wanting to kill George Bush in his crib, it’s Martin Amis taking readers’ questions at the Independent:

What is the most depressing thing about Britain you have observed since your return? And the best? GRANT MULLIN, Surrey

The most depressing thing was the sight of middle-class white demonstrators, last August, waddling around under placards saying, We Are All Hizbollah Now. Well, make the most of being Hizbollah while you can. As its leader, Hasan Nasrallah, famously advised the West: “We don’t want anything from you. We just want to eliminate you.” [Close enough. -- ed.] Similarly, when I went on Question Time the other week, a woman in the audience, her voice quavering with self-righteousness, presented the following argument: since it was America that supported Osama bin Laden when he was fighting the Russians, the US armed forces, in response to September 11, “should be dropping bombs on themselves!” And the audience applauded. It is quite an achievement. People of liberal sympathies, stupefied by relativism, have become the apologists for a creedal wave that is racist, misogynist, homophobic, imperialist, and genocidal. To put it another way, they are up the arse of those that want them dead.

Blowback

Every time liberals try to use logic, it just doesn’t seem to work out for them.
On a different note, today my “Christian” university had a MLK celebration that featured Keith Ellison as the keynote speaker. Well isn’t that special!

The novelist writes in answer to ‘Independent’ readers about misogyny, Islamism, Iran’s nuclear threat and Kirk Douglas’s naked body.

The whole thread is similar in tone to the pullquote – it made my day! Reminds me of Mark Steyn. Great post, Allahpundit!

waddling around, hee hee.

1300 years of jihad is a fad, but global warming is forever? Right.

Buck Turgidson on January 15, 2007 at 4:04 PM

The problem here of course is that while I don’t really care about their lack of self-preservation… the fact that they’re willing to allow me to die actively working to support those that wish me dead makes them my mortal enemies… and not by my choice. By theirs.

It’s like some form of madness.

Love Love Love Martin Amis! What a glorious a–hole!

I don’t want tem dead because of their religion. I don’t want them dead becasue of the color of their skin. I don’t want them dead to hear them scream (Though that isn’t a bad thing.)

I want them dead because they want me dead. I’m not going to be vulnerable in order to be “PC”. Those who lack the drive to survive, sit back and live on our coattails, as your ancestors have been doing since swearing allegience to King George III.

The nonviolent Muslims, and I have met a few and know they exist, have a DUTY to their faith to police their own. Religion’s touchy anyways. Even if every muslim cleaned up their act, you’d still have holier-than-thou evangelists telling them they’re going to hell, and giving them a hard time. Hell, I get a hard time ALL the time for being Catholic in the south. I get sick of hearing them bitch down here, but I don’t go running to the ACLU every time one pisses me off. It just is what it is. I chose to live here, I must adapt.

I’m sorry freakagriep, but you used the words “liberals” and “logic” in the same sentence. WHAT were you thinking?

Liberalism is so twisted and irrational that libs themselves are at a total loss to explaing it or themselves. Like Ian Anderson sang “I may make you feel, but I can’t make you think…”

Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Damn you Allahpundit! I know Halliburton is involved.

they are up the arse of those that want them dead

Nicely put. But they are getting pretty far up the collective Western wazoo, too.

WriterMom on January 15, 2007 at 4:30 PM

To put it another way, they are up the arse of those that want them dead.

Isn’t this the moniest of all money quotes? It pretty much sums it all up.

And when the global jihad makes it’s way to their village or town or city, it’ll be “Why didn’t Bush do anything to stop this?”

Tony737 on January 15, 2007 at 4:35 PM

AP –

I think you missed the true depth of Martin’s comments:

Q: Whats the worst thing that’s ever happened to you? NESA GARDEZI, by email

A: One day I returned home from a book tour in the US, and I noticed that the leading edge of the toilet roll in the bathroom wasn’t folded into an inviting V – as it was in all those American hotels.
Not only that. I then had a tedious five minutes issuing instructions about the new arrangement to my wife.

flipflop on January 15, 2007 at 4:37 PM

the moniest of all money quotes

It’s pretty damned good.

WriterMom on January 15, 2007 at 4:38 PM

It’s almost Red Meat, b ut since it’s by a liberal for liberals, it’s more like Raw Tofu!

see-dubya on January 15, 2007 at 4:43 PM

Great answer to the “horrorism” question.

THeDRiFTeR, congratulations!

What is the most depressing thing about Britain you have observed since your return? And the best? GRANT MULLIN, Surrey

Most depressing – it’s still the food.
And the best – they’re extremely clean and have that Mr. Bean humor. And Onslow is “completely surrounded by no beer”, and Mrs. Bucket…, I mean Bouquet :)

On a serious note, I fully agree with the Kid.

In honor to our pal THeDRiFTeR:

“All your Hizbollah belong to us!”

PinkyBigglesworth on January 15, 2007 at 4:51 PM

see-dubya, you beat me to the punch. Allah should have put a whole, effing bloody steer on the platter for this one!

As for this —

Yes it is, you jackass. She could have fantasized about killing (a) the guy who actually killed her son, (b) Saddam, (c) Bin Laden, or (d) any other number of guilty parties. Who does she blame? Bush. Just like you. You can’t fucking wait to blame your own side for every misery that befalls us. You’re repulsive.

Heh.

PS DRiFTLeSS,

Always remember the definition of liberalism: the absolute refusal to take one’s own side in a fight.

Jaibones on January 15, 2007 at 4:53 PM

Also great answer to the “what would you have been if Kingsley hadn’t been a famous writer” question.

I’m politely overlooking his political pontifications.

Alex K on January 15, 2007 at 4:53 PM

PPS I guess this confirms that Allah has quick access to every asinine thing I have ever said here.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People of liberal sympathies, stupefied by relativism, have become the apologists for a creedal wave that is racist, misogynist, homophobic, imperialist, and genocidal. To put it another way, they are up the arse of those that want them dead.

Naive, frivolous, uneducated (a humanities education taught by postmodern profs = uneducated) people with no perspective on the past generally become liberals. Many people who actively supported leftist takeovers from Russia to Cambodia eventually ended up dead by the very regimes they wanted. So it is not surprising history is going to repeat itself again.

Kid from Brooklyn on January 15, 2007 at 5:24 PM

People of liberal sympathies, stupefied by relativism, have become the apologists for a creedal wave that is racist, misogynist, homophobic, imperialist, and genocidal.

Let’s not forget slavery. They are also apologists for the world’s remaining slave holders.

But I guess to a liberal anything’s better than making common cause with the right-wing boogeyman.

NellE on January 15, 2007 at 5:25 PM

It’s amazing and sad how closely people like Drifter and leftists in general match the template of Toohey’s followers in The Fountainhead. Ayn Rand predicted and described the Left of the early 21st century in 1943: a people so eaten up with relativism and guilt that they would make heroes of beasts that would eat them alive.

spmat on January 15, 2007 at 5:33 PM

Spmat, so true. The Left is every bit as nihilistic as Toohey’s mob.

Lazarus on January 15, 2007 at 5:50 PM

A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. — John Stuart Mill

Thanks AP, I have been trying to remember when it was that Drifter said he would no longer comment on here again.

Ouch. I shall read, but never make another comment on this blog again. It has become obvious to me that I offend more than anything else around here. Sorry, I certainly didn’t mean to invoke the very basest instincts in either its writers, or commenters.

Okay, as of this moment, I am mounting a campaign to take back the term “Liberal.” These suicidal whack jobs have proven themselves unworthy of the term as they have willingly enslaved themselves to those who wish them dead. They dance to the tune of totalitarians and dictators the world over and respect only suffocating power. They are no longer “free men,” but willing accomplices to their own eventual demise. They like the term progressive? Fine, as they are “progressing” towards their own deaths, they may keep it. I will take up the mantle of the “Liberal,” the freedom loving free man in the mold of Jefferson, Madison, and all others who worked for the freedom of mankind. To the devil with fools and poseurs who would bend their necks to bondage to score political points! These men are not liberals, they are fellow travelers and useful idiots.

Militant Bibliophile on January 15, 2007 at 11:23 PM

Militant Bibliophile on January 15, 2007 at 11:23 PM

Sorta’ explains all of those mass extinctions that keep showing up in the fossil record, doesn’t it? Anybody care to wager on whether or not the dinosaurs were “Liberals”? Keep your fingers crossed. Maybe they’ll all die before they get the rest of us (sane people) killed.

CyberCipher on January 16, 2007 at 12:39 AM

CyberCipher, speaking of fossils – latest discovery very interesting. Nothing on Left/Right, though :)
