Video: Olbermann’s special comment — the condensed version

posted at 10:20 am on January 12, 2007 by Allahpundit

He’s doing these at a clip of about two a week now so we’ve given up posting them all. Iraqslogger found this latest one particularly dreamy, though, so I thought I’d do something nice for our lefty readers for a change and edit the clip down to its barest essentials. This is, after all, nutroots porn, and no one who’s waiting for release likes having to sit through long stretches of exposition. So here you go: the Edward R. Murrow of our generation (self-styled, per his signoff), minus his O’Reilly mask and Nazi salute, delivering money shot after money shot of Kossack memes to the glassy-eyed gratification of his eleven viewers. Note the Orwell reference, too. Keith’s an intellectual and he wants you to know it, not just because he’s an egomaniac but so that you’ll know you can trust him the next time he suggests the Nazis were basically Fox News hosts with guns.

I like to think of him as the anti-Iyad Jamal al-Din.

Thanks to Olby Watch for doing their typical bang-up job. The one thing you don’t get from this is how self-consciously performed his “outrage” is, a characteristic common to all demagogues, even ones as tinpot as Olby. Read Johnny Dollar’s transcript and his snarky margin notes about the dramatic PIVOTs! and camera cuts to see what I mean. It’s commentary as vaudeville.

He makes my skin crawl.

Good night and good luck“?

MT on January 12, 2007 at 10:31 AM

That pretty much sums up olberdouche. I have never watched him, but don’t they just loop that clip over and over and call it his show?

rightside on January 12, 2007 at 10:32 AM

I’m sure if I was an actual lefty nut, I might have had an O-face moment there, but this dude is pathetic – I can’t believe he still has a show. He is, to borrow a phrase from Scrubs, a bastard-coated bastard with bastard filling. And for the umpteenth time, the “good night and good luck” bit is just stupid.

CP on January 12, 2007 at 10:35 AM

He even looks away like Murrow when he delivers the “good night, and good luck” line.

Only difference is, Murrow’s delivery was powerful because it was so dry and passionless. He didn’t need to use histrionics to make his point.

Olbermann is a punk pretender.

Slublog on January 12, 2007 at 10:36 AM

I can not understand why his ratings are in the toilet… WAIT! Must because the program is in toilet and he is a floating turd.

Wade on January 12, 2007 at 10:36 AM

Real positive guy, huh? I hope he has children who’ll assume his suffering once he’s gone. Someone should suffer for that.

My favorite (initial) is comparing hanging Saddam, with the KKK lynchings. Saddam and lynched blacks are the same in Olby-world.
African-Americans, blacks, this is what the democratic party thinks of you and your sacrifices. You are no better than Saddam Hussein.

right2bright on January 12, 2007 at 10:40 AM

What is really scary is that eleven people actually watch this guy.

infidel on January 12, 2007 at 10:40 AM

hahahahaha!

That is the very first time I have ever bothered to watch anything that KO says.

“make us all look wrong” ?!

You ARE wrong KO and Bush’s surge in troops will be successful and you will be exposed for the misguided tool that you are.

Ohh! Never realized the Murrow posturing. Hah. That’s the Left, all image, no substance. Well, in O’s case, the substance he’s filled with would normally require a HAZMAT sticker on his butt.

naliaka on January 12, 2007 at 10:52 AM

Oh well . . . it’s MSNBC and Olbermann fits right in with the rest of the pond scum.

rplat on January 12, 2007 at 10:55 AM

I’ve been searching for that exact word or phrase that would best describe Olbermann, and realized there is only one word that is perfectly suited ….

JERKOFF

That’s Olby in a nutshell (an appropriate receptacle).

When did human feces obtain the ability to speak? One with glasses no less. It is a rare thing for a person to actually be that which they spew. But Olber-rated is a star, he’s told himself and us that many times. Looking at it now, he was even un-qualified to be an ESPN sportscenter host…..

There once was a guy from MSNBC

Who thought no one is greater than he

He said with a grin

As he wiped his chin

Hell I’m so good I even f@#k me…..

VikingGoneWild on January 12, 2007 at 11:48 AM

You only have to see Olbermann once or twice to realize that in his world, history began with Bush’s election in 200. If he had a clue about what happened in the past he wouldn’t make the weak, misguided Nazi references he does.

But hey, at least it seems like he’s such a happy guy.

Chad on January 12, 2007 at 11:50 AM

Andrea Mitchell believes that the media is not biased – even with the olberdouche spouting his nonsense. As a respected member of the MSM Mitchell’s opinion sure says a lot about their definition of “bias”.

It surprises me I watched even a little of this posting (I couldn’t watch most of it), the olberdouche troll makes me regret it every time I hear it’s utterance.

On this posting I want a refund!

“Oceana has always been at war with EastAsia”

You know………….. I can picture it now. All this fodder inspires generation after generation of islamist jihadists, they finally get a toe hold on United States soil, end up at KO’s house, and while they are slowly cutting off his head with a dull, rusty knife, he blames President Bush.

Rick on January 12, 2007 at 12:08 PM

What are these links that are popping up on our posts?

Those are advertising dollars at work in a new way on websites. Green underlined links work like mini-popups when you hover your mouse over them, except that your popup blockers don’t recognize them as such. They usually show you a more complete link that you can choose to click on or not. It’s how advertisers get around your popup blocker. I’m not up on how certain words get tagged on certain sites, but it isn’t random. Probably something to do with the domain preferences, and who pays for the advertising on said domain.

And perhaps somebody learned more from that than an entire season of watching Olby…

Freelancer on January 12, 2007 at 12:18 PM

KO has to have some inside dirt on a tv executive. That has to be the only explanation cuz his ratings can’t be all that good. What about the advertisers?

USN6872 on January 12, 2007 at 12:25 PM

I tried watching him last night. Maybe I was too tired, maybe I was curious or maybe I just didn’t care, but I sat thru 5 mins of it. I could take no more and If I had a brick in my hand, instead of the remote, I might have thrown it toward the TV. How can anyone be so…I don’t know…Negative? It was just sickening to sit thru and I won’t be doing that ever again. I don’t want to call him a name and so I won’t. I’ll just go away. Bu bye MSNBC and KO.

USN6872 on January 12, 2007 at 12:25 PM

No, it’s MSNBC pushing its agenda. If, by some chance, we end up with a Dem President in ’08, KO’s show will go away (nothing for him to criticize) much like it did the first time around back in the late 90s.

Rick on January 12, 2007 at 12:55 PM

Still is, on ESPN radio’s Dan Patrick show (KO and ESPN kissed and made-up). They guy is just as annoying there as he is on MSNBC.

Olby will never be as reliable as Joycelyn Elders but he is still a highly reliable source of right wing commentary fuel. I love the 1984 reference. Lefties are amazingly good a projection.

dostrick on January 12, 2007 at 1:49 PM

I must admit never having watched KO’s show. (And I am thankful for the many hours of my life that were not wasted…) Does he always sign off with “Good night and good luck?” What a joke he is…

lan astaslem on January 12, 2007 at 2:09 PM

No wonder Keith Olbermann’s ratings are in the tank. If ever a talking head was lost and spaced out, it’s him. It’s a shame that MSNBC appears more of mouth piece for al Jazzera, than America.

What’s baffling, is how does Keith Olbermann get his head in and out of his a$$ so fast, without damaging his glasses? Great trick! /Sarcasm

byteshredder on January 12, 2007 at 2:15 PM

Olbermmann cannot be that stupid. I suspect he goes home, counts his money and says to himself

God I played the village idiot great tonight!

After all this time, I’ve never clicked a button to set this man’s image in motion. Olbermann’s such an overly-groomed, makeup-heavy, self-satisfied girlie-man that he’s bad enough, thank you, in freeze-frame.

Kralizec on January 12, 2007 at 9:42 PM

Does KO have some member’s of Kos and DU working as his writers, or possibly some former members of Dan ‘Fake but Accurate’ Rather’s team? They all sound some much alike that it’s hard to tell the difference anymore.

To all the KO fans out there:

Wade on January 12, 2007 at 10:36 AM

According to Nielsen, MSNBC was the only cable news network to post gains in 2006.

Fox declined 14%
CNN declined 17%
MSNBC grew 8%

Countdown had a 24% increase in 2006; a 60% increase in the 4th qtr. O’Reilly stills wins the time slot, but Countdown is now at about 25% of O’R’s viewership, but in the money demo 25-54, Countdown now has half as many viewers as O’Reilly.

No wonder Roger Ailes is getting cranky! (This is a particularly bad time for FNC to be showing declines–their contracts with affiliates are up for renewal. The original contracts were a huge bonus for the affiliates; as FNC first came on, they were desperate for distribution. As they became the ratings leader, Ailes was licking his chops thinking he could re-negotiate much more lucrative contracts. So the timing of the ratings decline could not be worse. Gee that’s a shame….)

honora on January 13, 2007 at 2:35 PM

No wonder Roger Ailes is getting cranky!

Uh huh. Here are the numbers for Keith’s latest speshul komment. Keep it up, buddy; your showpiece segments are now almost, but not quite, as popular in the “key demo” as standard episodes of Paula Zahn.

8PM – P2+ (25-54)
O’Reilly Factor – 2,709,000 viewers (458,000)
Paula Zahn– 760,000 viewers (246,000)
Countdown w/ Olbermann – 712,000 viewers (237,000)
Fast Money – 199,000 viewers (74,000)
Nancy Grace – 816,000 viewers (352,000)
