Yup yup..time to begin yanking federal bucks from these colleges until they start standing up for the rights of our military. Liberal colleges have zero problem standing up for the rights of other groups..it’s time they show some respect to the people who enable them to be the way they are. It befuddles me how liberals want the military not to come visit for those who wish to ask questions and want to join…yet they’d be the first ones to scream if there was a draft. Hello…2 plus 2 = 4 even if you don’t want it to be.

Unfortunately, clobbering civilians (even those who asked for it) gives the command a black eye and is fodder for up-and-coming ACLU attorneys, so we never got the chance.

I’ll grant that engaging violent demonstrators in hand-to-hand fighting wouldn’t look good on camera, but isn’t that one of the reasons we have snipers?

A good portion of the students live in caves in the forests above UCSC. Another portion of “students” just walk around pretending to be UC material.

There are times I think that the safety they are guaranteeing is that of the hucksters, what with the fact that any recruiting station can furnish not only the dedicated NCOs and SNCOs who do the thankless job, but also more than a few junior guys who are present for either recruiter’s assistance (read: extra time at home in exchange for doing the grunt work the recruiters don’t like) or are in the area on leave. My recruiting substation, during the time I was on RA, could field nearly a full squad (13 Marines) and we all would have JUMPED at the opportunity to watch each others’ backs in this kind of situation. I tell you what, one protester gets violent and it’s ON! He would have gone down under a pile likes of which he would not have known in his nightmares.

Unfortunately, clobbering civilians (even those who asked for it) gives the command a black eye and is fodder for up-and-coming ACLU attorneys, so we never got the chance. So the recruiters would have to get extra security to protect them from these so-called “peace” activists which the university doesn’t want to fund (or won’t bother to) and as a result, they get canceled. C’est la vie.

What is rich here is that the college administrators say they are preserving free speech by cancelling those events where thugs oppose free speech. In short, they are doing the thugs work for them by shutting down the speech of those people the thugs don’t like. It’s cowardice, not just physical cowardice but intellectual cowardice.

I live in Santa Cruz. The local entertainment throw-away has a man-on-the-street question every week. OK, This is Santa Cruz and I should be gender neutral, nonjudgemental about species, and sensitive about GLBT issues. There are photographs of those giving the answers, you figure out the categories.

Anyway, this week’s question was about the death of Saadam. People here are sad. This is a tragedy. He should have been given the Peace Prize instead of the rope.

In defense of Santa Cruz, a great place to live. Wonderful climate, great food and wine, and lots of …well, interesting individuals. For those old enough to remember, Angela Davis is on the faculty at UCSC.

And will be rescheduled as soon as we can un-invite the recruiters.
