Mother Sheehan ignores pleas to visit imprisoned Cuban dissidents

No surprise given her dream of living in the Chavista paradise. Although we should be fair and acknowledge that St. Cindy’s politics have always been highly nuanced.
To paraphrase InstaGlenn, they’re not anti-oppression, they’re just on the other side.
The leader of Ms. Sheehan’s trip, Medea Benjamin, said the American activists had not seen the letter [from the dissidents' wives] and that they would be focusing solely on Guantanamo.
“It just so happens that this is where the [Guantanamo] prisoners are,” Ms. Benjamin said. That the group is visiting Cuba, where prisons define daily life for many, is “very incidental,” she added…
Ms. Sheehan visited Guantanamo yesterday and planned to peer into the American prison from a watchtower on Cuban-owned land using a telescope.
Update: “Fatherland. Socialism or death - I swear it.”

I wonder what Sheehan’s shirt says in that photo. The text looks arabic.
Hoodlumman on January 10, 2007 at 11:09 AM
It looks like the “I will not be silent” shirt that Michelle has up on this post.
Not to be confused with Michelle’s own “I will not surrender/I will not submit” shirt.

Oh… a Hugo would say “Deseo pegarlo en tu extremo”

Yup…definitely looks Arabic. And I doubt it says “Infidel”.

The poster child for “What Not To Wear”.

Sheehan needs to be institutionalized. Benjamin needs to be in prison.
JammieWearingFool on January 10, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Man, I am in the wrong line of work. I need to become a universal, interplanetary habitual whiner/oppressed hippy, like Mrs. Sheehan. Then I could travel the globe on someone else’s dime! I would gladly make short visits to lefty causes and roll my eyes and blame Bush for all the evils of the world to travel and live the jet-set lifestyle!
Bush, you SUCK! Now, someone send me to Fiji.

This is typical moonbat prioritizing. She ignores the real victims in Cuba in favor of a bunch of terrorists that supported the forces that ended her sons life.
The cheese is off the cracker with this nutburger!
csdeven on January 10, 2007 at 11:37 AM
I think it says “LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! I’M AN ATTENTION WHORE!”
Typical moonbat. They “care” so much about things like “human rights” and “oppression”–unless it’s a Communist dictator, and then they can’t cozy up fast enough. (Screw you, Felipe! Castro’s our boy!) Guantanamo’s a friggin’ country club compared to the nicest of Castro’s multitude of prisons, but Sheehag couldn’t care less.
ReubenJCogburn on January 10, 2007 at 11:45 AM
So she is literally the guest of a dictator spying on a USA facility?
She belongs in prison.
bbz123 on January 10, 2007 at 11:51 AM
Heh, Mommy Moonbat.
At least she keeps true to her message.
Not like the other media whores.
Way to stretch your 15 minutes Cindy.

What would Casey do? She disgusts me.
infidel on January 10, 2007 at 12:03 PM
Has anyone figured out yet why she was in Korea opposing base relocation yet? Also, she keeps on getting arrested, but she keeps on getting off easy. When is she going to do a long stretch in prison?
BohicaTwentyTwo on January 10, 2007 at 12:09 PM
^ I agree! Whatever happened to “three stikes - you’re out”?
bloggless on January 10, 2007 at 12:12 PM
I agree with Cindy; we should close Gitmo and send them to an atoll in the Atlantic.
Then drop a nuke.
Black Adam on January 10, 2007 at 12:14 PM
Boy, those fifteen minutes sure seem to be taking a long time. This is worse than when I was a kid sitting in school, staring at the clock on the last day of school before summer vacation (and that seemed like an eternity).

The shirt probably say, in Arabic, “كيف حالك؟, ما أخبارك؟ , isme rashara”.

I have to ask why the families of dissidents prisoners would even want her attention? If they know enough about her to have been aware of her plans to travel to Cuba, they should know that she’s pro-Castro, pro-Chavez, and anti-freedom.
Since communism is so entrenched in Cuba, it would take a revolution or an invasion to free them, and PMS is anti-war above all things; she would never support them, and they should never consider asking for her support.
I can understand them trying for some airtime in the hopes of gaining international sympathy for their cause, but trying to use PMS for that would never have worked anyway.
(PMS = Peace Mother Sheehan)

Well, I think he made it clear which side of the socialist family he prefers.
Not that there’s anything wrong with mom’s side of the family. It’s probably nothing more than Chavez preferring the high blood pressure look during his rants.

Another admirable act by Ms. Sheehan. Her dedication is inspiring.
GregH on January 10, 2007 at 12:33 PM
Does she grasp the irony that the person who killed her son (thereby conferring upon her Absolute Moral Authority) might be an inmate in GITMO?
Somehow I suspect she doesn’t care. In fact, I think if someone could identify the specific Mahdi Army fighter that killed him, Mama Sheehan would tell her that she doesn’t hold it against him, since he’s a Brave Resistance Fighter against Evil Occupation. And Mookie should give the guy a medal and a promotion.

Please tell me you are being sarcastic.
Rick on January 10, 2007 at 12:53 PM
How is ignoring the plight of Cuban political prisoners inspiring? If she is what she says she is, then she should be concerned about the condition of ALL prisons and prisoners, not just the ones who fit her warped political agenda.
pullingmyhairout on January 10, 2007 at 1:05 PM
That might have been the funniest comment I’ve ever read on this site. Somehow I don’t think you intended it that way though.

I have never seen a person who hated her son so much! She hates everything he stands for! And since his death gave her the fame and jet-setting lifestyle, I’d bet she’s secretly happy he was killed!
Yes, I’m sure to be lynched for this opinion.
stonemeister on January 10, 2007 at 1:18 PM
I wouldn’t go that far. Now, her handlers on the other hand…
Rick on January 10, 2007 at 1:52 PM
And what in the hell does she think she’ll see?
Gottafang on January 10, 2007 at 2:17 PM
A bunch of well feed men playing soccer, praying at the appropriate times eating good meals… oh and torture…
Gwillie on January 10, 2007 at 2:44 PM
She should mind her manners carefully, lest she “inspires” one of the crack snipers in Gitmo to test their skills.
Jaibones on January 10, 2007 at 3:17 PM
Their dedication is inspiring to me, GH…but we all find our inspiration where we can.

It not what Sheehan will see that is important, but how many will see her. That’s all her efforts have ever been about.

Why is she still breathing withoug mechanical assistence?
A person as brain-dead STUPID as she is ought to be on life support. Even flatworms have more smarts than she does.
georgej on January 11, 2007 at 2:14 AM
In her letter to the dissident’s wives, she makes a reference to her “staff.” If I used a broomstick to get around, I don’t think I would flaunt it.
