Report: Dem Congressman boasts of insulting Rove, Bush, Cheney, Laura Bush

posted at 10:05 pm on January 9, 2007 by Allahpundit

The source is sketchy but the details are characteristically boorish. Plus, he’s a freshman, just like Webb was when he picked his own fight with Bush at the White House meet and greet. It’s a quick and dirty way to earn street cred with the nutroots and, in Kagen’s case, boost one’s Q rating.

Taking a shot at Mrs. Bush, though? That’s just love for the game.

When meeting President Bush The Scene reports that Kagen told Bush, “Mr. President thank you for coming to Green Bay. My name is Dr. Multimillionaire. That was before the race. Now they call me Doctor (sic) Thousandaire. I couldn’t have won without you coming.” The Scene also reports that Kagen purposely referred to Laura Bush as Barbara when he met her. According to The Scene Kagen stated when meeting the First Lady, “Hi Barbara, how are ya?” The Scene relayed that Kagen did this because Kagen learned “that the meanest thing you can say to another gentleman is he is a fine fellow and you then refer to his spouse by a different name.”

Brave guy. Stephen-Colbert-at-the-White-House-correspondents-dinner brave.

Follow the first link for an account of his exchange with Rove and Cheney. Sean Hackbarth also points me here, where his staff is caught in a bit of transparent, albeit petty and pardonable, plagiarism.

Update: The plagiarism has now been purged.

Finishing schools just aren’t what they used to be.

Whatever happened to winning with grace? These guys seem angrier after taking over Congress than they were with losing the White House two years ago.

Slublog on January 9, 2007 at 10:21 PM

Wow, what a bunch of class acts now in Congress. I wouldn’t put anything past these dims. The website thing was hilarious though. I guess he thinks people in WI won’t bother to look at his website and if they do, they’ll be so engrossed in his ridiculous picture they won’t realize that they have to write the Rep. from NE for their flags.

Catie96706 on January 9, 2007 at 10:21 PM

“Another gentleman”? What on earth is he talking about? No gentleman insults anyone’s wife, or takes glee in doing the “meanest thing you can do” to anyone. Gentleman.

NellE on January 9, 2007 at 10:51 PM

Maybe I’m not as sophisticated or as smart as this guy, but when is acting like a Class A jerk something to brag about?

cmay on January 9, 2007 at 10:58 PM

Tough and Smart. A fashion statement or intelligence, the latter for sure.

Another pass is about to be issued.

Original and innovated, nope, actions mimic Democratic play book.

Kini on January 9, 2007 at 11:00 PM

The Democrats have become the party of no class and bad manners. They think that it is meaningful to be disrespectful and rude. They are morally bankrupt.

Jaibones on January 9, 2007 at 11:26 PM

Let me see

I wrote on this blog that

Webb was let go by Reagan

Webb was sued by Nancy for using her husbands image in the campaign (or threatened she is a classy lady)

That Webb wrote several unprintable things as a cabinet member

That Webb made innapropriate comments to Naval Officers concerning Female Students under their supervision

That Webb wrote a paper denouncing women and their role and service in the military

This was before the porn which was dimissed as “products of his imagination”

I strongly disagreed with the founders opinion on Webb expressed on Fox that this porn scandal was a non issue

Now first thing he did (thats been reported) is nearly picking a fist fight with the president

Let me see Allen lost by a few thousand votes

If only his background was throughly investigated as Allens was would we be using this guy as a yardstick to measure outrageous behavior?

I’m not casting blame on anyone, but if we as commentators and bloggers had done our research…. (including myself)

At least the Senate would be tied, and a very close to the edge individual would have all the free time to get the counseling and anger managment that he might benefit greatly from.

Well, it IS the year of the pig. Although pigs are more dignified.

R D on January 9, 2007 at 11:43 PM

I thought President Bush was supposed to be the “cowboy” with no manners, and the Dems were the party with “classy”, professional and well-spoken politicians??

Rick on January 9, 2007 at 11:53 PM

Well, it IS the year of the pig. Although pigs are more dignified.

You can’t say that. It’s offensive to muslims (and Jews).

SouthernGent on January 10, 2007 at 12:14 AM

Democrats are tacky

How else to explain pilfering the White House silverware and pool table and other taxpayer sacred items. Also, Wellstone and Mrs. King’s funeral? Hello? They are so very tacky and grotesquely rude.

Topsecretk9 on January 10, 2007 at 12:18 AM

Sorry. I happen to love pork, and if you can’t eat it because someone or some thing tells you its bad, well, you just don’t know what you’re missing. Personally, I can’t eat tofu.

R D on January 10, 2007 at 12:35 AM

He will be heralded as a hero in DNC circles.

However, if a Republican did that to a Democrat…demands for apologies would ring through the MSM.

Black Adam on January 10, 2007 at 2:02 AM

Just when you think they can’t sink any lower, the Democrats start digging. With a backhoe. Bankrupt indeed.

ReubenJCogburn on January 10, 2007 at 2:20 AM

CLASS… Crass

Gwillie on January 10, 2007 at 2:52 AM

They already hit the sewers, only hell comes next. Keep digging, fools.

Black Adam on January 10, 2007 at 6:19 AM

It reminds me of how when my children were younger. I used to always remind them to call President Clinton just that…President Clinton. To show respect for the office even if he himself insulted the office. But, the uberintelligent and “better than me” democrats are awarded by boorish behavior each day.
Republicans seem to always take the real high road but usually run into ambushes there.

hoosierken on January 10, 2007 at 6:21 AM

Sometimes I wish that George Bush was NOT a compassionate Christian and that he would take some of these fine politicians out behind the Oval Office and beat the crap out of them.

DoctorDentons on January 10, 2007 at 6:23 AM

I guess this is a new democrat party moniker, boorishness. Now we can choose between cowards, traitors, socialist or boors.

Have I left anything out?

Zorro on January 10, 2007 at 6:45 AM

Wonderful! I hope the Dems continue with the insults. With any luck, Bush will realize them for what they are and start kicking their collective asses.

.

GT on January 10, 2007 at 7:25 AM

Good grief! President Clinton came to my town once when he was president. I thought he was the lowest form of life on the planet, but if I had ever met him, I would be polite out of courtesy to the office. Of course now, I’d give him the cut direct.

This man is a boor, crass, a cad, a bounder, and trash.

I was thinking the same. You are IN. You got it. You already have the job. Why are you still mad? Perhaps because now you might have to put your money where your mouth is and actually produce?

CHICAGO SUN TIMES October 24, 2006

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Democratic U.S. House candidate Steve Kagen apologized Tuesday for commenting that he was late for a meeting on an Indian reservation because “we’re on Injun time.”

“I did not mean any harm by my words and I humbly apologize if I offended anyone. That was not my intent,” he said in a statement hours after the National Republican Congressional Committee released a tape recording of the comment.

“Appreciate getting here almost on time. Our excuse in Oneida was, well, we’re on Injun time. They don’t tell time by the clock. Our excuse here is that I am a doctor and that we’re never on time.”

Kagen’s spokeswoman Stephanie Lundberg said he heard the term “Injun time” used by Native Americans. “I don’t know if he was trying to be funny. It was in the context of a self-deprecating comment,” she said.

Bobbi Webster, a spokeswoman for the Oneida Nation, said Monday that Kagen’s comment was not being taken as disrespectful by tribal members. No apology was sought, she said.

“Tribal members say that themselves. It is not uncommon to hear somebody come in late and say, ‘Oh-Oh. I am running on Indian time.’ The time you get there is the time to do your thing,” Webster said.

The term “Injun” also is not necessarily disrespectful, she said.

Under normal circumstances the ACLU would disagree with that last statement. Weren’t they offended by the Washington “Redskins”? But in this instance, where the botched disrespect came from a donk, the ACLU is silent, the press is sympathetic and the candidate’s spin doctor, well, gets away with her spin.

Now imagine if the press had treated George Allen (R-VA) with the same courtesy, after he was alleged to have said the “n” word while attending college, never knowing if it actually was said, or if so, the context in which it was used. Imagine Spike Lee coming forward and saying “”African Americans say that themselves. It is not uncommon to hear somebody come in late and say, ‘Oh-Oh. I am one sorry “n…”. The time you get there is the time to do your thang,”

Oh, and Allen’s alleged use of the “n” word came from informants, who claimed they heard him use the word – over twenty years ago. Kagen’s comments were recorded on tape.

But there’s no media bias. No, no, no.

Kagen won, Allen lost.

And there’s your MSM version of “Mission Accomplished”

fogw on January 10, 2007 at 8:59 AM

He sounds like a kid you used to beat up in grade school cause he was such an a**hole. His picture on his web site looks like someone photoshopped a toupe onto his head…badly.

fogw, I was gonna make a funny comment about Kagen and the “injun” comment but now I can’t. Geez. :)

Whatever happened to the tried and true ‘I had sex with your wife’?

I mean, that’s gold.

Whatever happened to the tried and true ‘I had sex with your wife’?

I mean, that’s gold.

Everyone else had to stop saying that when President Clinton was elected. He’s in the midst of copyrighting that line.

I don’t know why anyone bothers with the outrage. We have a sitting Congressman accusing the President of collaborating with a giant storm to ethnically cleanse a city..and he’s not kidding. The news won’t report this beyond a ‘Way to go.’ The nutroots won’t really care because he only insulted the First Lady instead of stabbing her with a dinner fork. We’re being governed by a party that for the most part needs to be put on a Thorazine drip and have all sharps taken away from them.

Ladies and gentlemen, your new Congress. We’re stuck with them…probably forever. Don’t worry though, once the amnesty passes you won’t have to worry about your vote meaning anything in getting these clowns into office. We’ll be well past irrelevant to the political process by then.

Just one more Democrat with the culture of a rap star medical doctor with multiple degrees and Board certifications who has been voted tops in his field(s)…

I almost insulted rap stars all over the world, there, without thinking about what I was saying. No self-respecting rap star I have ever heard of would gangster up on Laura Bush in the White House. Even limpdick Kanye West would give Laura her props.

But this UW-Madison frat boy can’t. Think about that for a minute, and who do you picture? Bing! Dr. Dean, the 5th Avenue putz, of course!

Jaibones on January 10, 2007 at 10:01 AM

I doubt Bush gave it more than two seconds of thought. Comparatively speaking this is a blip on the radar. Consider that one other guy accused him of “ethnic cleansing”. This barely registers.

That’s because they condone such behavior but are too gutless to come out and say it.

… which is typical for them.

Kagen learned “that the meanest thing you can say to another gentleman is he is a fine fellow and you then refer to his spouse by a different name.”

What a lame-o. Just how difficult is it to come up with your own insult? I hear he “learned” it from Biden, which means, of course, that it came from someone else.

KelliD on January 10, 2007 at 11:41 AM

It would have been insulting; but everyone was distracted by Kennedy dancing and chanting “Chimpy-Bush-Hitler” over and over… so nobody really noticed this guy trying to be “mean and clever”.

Nah, the guy’s just an idiot, and truly forgot the First Lady’s name (or more likely, never knew it). This “meanest thing” garbage is just the typical dhimocrat attempt to obfuscate, lie, and deceive, trying to put a good face on a disaster.
