How about that horrible injury the county manager sustained patting himself on the back?

I wonder if any of those that really believe that global warming will cause the glaciers/polar ice caps to melt and ergo cause massive flooding have ever left a glass of water with ice cubes floating in it sitting around long enough for the ice cubes to melt.

In fact, I wonder if they’ve even contemplated as to why ice actually floats in water.

I understand what you’re saying but you’re assuming (I think) that the ice is submerged or mostly submerge which is not the case with polor ice caps.

A better analogy.

Fill your bath tub half full. (Yes, you can pretend to be Archimedes). Put a big block of ice in it such that the ice is only partly submerged in the water. Note the level of the water. Let the ice melt. Now note the level of the water. The point is that the ice when frozen exists primarily above sea level. When it melts, different story.

I’m sure Gore has been staying away from Colorado and traveling all over the east coast since that is where they seem to be having all the mild weather this year.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event— may I even say a “Weather Event” of “Biblical Proportions” — with a historic blizzard of up to 44″ inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10′s of thousands.

FYI:

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit – or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody – I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O’Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV’s to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn’t ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.

Families took in the stranded people – total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is “Work or Die”.

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for ‘sittin at home’ checks.

Even though a Category “5″ blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

It does seem that way, at least to me.

What “Global Warming” panickistas fail to appreciate is: if it we Global Cooling instead, we could lose half of the habitable surface of the Earth to gigantic ice sheets for centures (SEE: The Ice Age), while, with warming, we may lose a little coastline, but would gain arable areas inland -which are now desert- to compensate for the adjusted beachfronts.

As Robert Frost (sic) put it:

I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice

Make sure the next time you’re in a video store and you pass that movie, loudly inform the party you’re with (so that others around you hear), “can you believe these clowns want us to accept what they tell us as science, but they put a hurricane rotating in the opposite direction on the cover!”

Ice always displaces it’s volume in water. That is to say that ice floating in water takes up as much space in the water as it would if it was melted. This is because Ice is significantly less dense than water, which is also why it floats.

This is why I’ve never put that much stock in the whole “Ice caps melting will flood the earth” thing. Over the North Pole almost ALL of the ice-pack is floating. Which means that if that were to melt, the resulting sea-level rise would be so negligible as to not be measurable. The South Pole is another matter, as Antarctica is a large land-mass. However, the largest amounts of the ice there is right near the shoreline, and/or floating in the water. Inland, the annual precipitation is so low that there is actually very little icepack to melt. Quite a bit more than available overland at the North Pole, but still significantly less than the amount already floating in the water.

Now, how much ice there actually is, and how much it would raise the overall sea level if it should melt is a topic of much conjecture, but the whole “New York City Totally Underwater” thing is a view held by only the most moonbatty of enviro-moonbats.

Personally I do think that the Earth is warming. However, I think that it is short-term warming as a part of a larger overall cycle of warming and cooling that has been happening on Earth for millenia. Of course, by “short term” I mean that in a geological sense. IE: Short Term for the Earth means dozens to hundreds of generations for humans.

While I do think that humans can affect the climate/environment, they can only affect the local climate in highly specific situations, and not on any kind of long term scale. That is to say, if the humans leave or alter their behavior, the climate/environment reverts back to it’s original state in a matter of days to weeks. (Perhaps years for the re-absorption of structures, but still nothing in geological terms.)

Of course, say anything reasonable like that to a liberal and they will attack you six ways from Sunday. How dare you assault their religious dogma that Man and Man Alone is “Destroying the Earth” by trying to inject reason and scientific facts into the discussion?!?

Some conservatives aren’t much better either. They either reject all the evidence out of hand as being more loony faux-science, or take a pseudo-Christian line, again attacking the science. (I say Pseudo-Christian, because since when was the Bible a book of science? Last I checked it was a book of faith. Let the scientists cover the How and What of creation. The Bible deals with the Why and Who. You each have your specialty, let’s not mix them.)

I guess I am more interested in the hard science in this and don’t want propaganda of any kind to enter the mix. Heh, I also want a billion dollars and all the jihadis to be miraculously transported to Mars. I suppose I’m as likely to get the first wish as I am the second and third.

Melting ice caps on land might theoretically raise sea level. The problem is who can really tell what is going on when even scientific articles and studies are tainted by politics nowadays.

This summer there were articles about the breakage and floating away and melting of a massive, ancient ice sheet. I saw an article that they were attempting to calculate how many MM this could event alone raise sea level. Near the end of the article it then mentioned without explanation of the consequences that the ice sheet was floating in the first place! (indicating it would not cause any rise no matter the size)

GLOBAL ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE CHANGE!

It’s a win-win. Either we asphyxiate as the atmosphere is lost to space or we retreat up to the mountains to get away from the crushing toxic sea level pressure.

American dad is completely unwatchable, week in and week out. Its absolutely unfunny. It just tries too hard. Family Guy makes fun of conservatives all the time; but its less overt (usually) and thus, its funnier and I don’t mind it so much.

I remember when it first came out too. I read a review in People or something and the reviewer said it was a good show because both sides get equal time. Yeah. The liberal side and the making fun of conservatives side. I love how that’s considered equal time.

Next you’ll be telling me Godzilla was documentary.
