There’s a lot of beauty in that article, but the part that Misha predicted (sorry, but that prediction was definitely shooting fish in a barrel, it’s just funny that he called it so accurately) is hilarious, in a “farging iceholes” way.

What about the blind HIV-positive orphaned victims of global warming? And the fact that all of the “civilians” were African-Africans, so it was clearly a racially-motivated attack? Fortunately the AP has ace correspondent-at-large Jamil Hussein on the scene to get the “facts”.

Growing up is not the issue. If someone goes in young and follows a certain path it is reasonable to expect they develop blinders over time if they do no other kind of work. Why are so many people who decide to leave a career and teach in their fifties and beyond often very successful and happy? Because they have real world experience to apply. And as much as you would like for me to commit to some kind of quota solution – no that is not the answer either.

Idealogue – figured as much. Too comfortable to go out and do it the way you think it should be done? Mike Wallace is in his eighties and still reporting. Unless you are in your nineties “little late in the game” sounds like a cop out.

Don’t know why you keep harping on categorizing me as a liberal. The fact is you really have no idea what the true leanings of any of the posters here are.

No, not really. I think it’s perfectly fair to ask Democrat leadership to contrast their position on Iraq and the war on terror with this rhetoric from Clinton. The unspoken question at the beginning of every military conflict that we engage in now, is “when will the Democrats start calling this ‘Vietnam’, declare defeat, and call for our withdrawal?”

I don’t care for the leftward slant either but the only way that will really change is for more politically moderate reporters to enter the profession and influence from within. Because many journalists enter after college and are influenced by the more idealistic, liberal teachings of many of their professors is it really a surprise?

This is a rare and shocking admission from a liberal, Brad, but actually few of these reporters are in their 20s, and I would have thought that some of them would have grown up by now. Isn’t it strange that 90+% of them remain left of center (or left of left) when the country overall is much more like 50 – 50? This sounds more like a weeding out of those who don’t follow the groupthink, a la academia. So having more reporters who are “politically moderate” isn’t really the solution, here, unless you are talking about firing all the reporters who exhibit leftwing bias, and then issuing 50 – 50 ideology quotas for all newspaper editors and tv producers.

What we have now is Pack Journalism. With the sole exception of FNC, the TV news people are virtually indistinguishable. Therefore FNC is considered ‘right wing’, or maybe even a ‘tool of the right’.

Pack journalism has been around for a very long time. What is new is the instant news access. Why aren’t there more journalists that identify themselves as “conservative”, libertarian, etc.?
I think the answer lies in the difference between what makes an idealogue and the idealist. The idealist presses ahead despite practical considerations such as wealth or security, thinking that they can make a difference.
Idealogues theorize – more comfortable position with little risk for most of the conservative stripe.

If we had a free and independent press in America, some enterprising young reported would take this part — “the most powerful weapon in our counter-terrorism arsenal is our determination to never give up” — and shove it up some Democrat’s ass, sideways.

What part of ‘independent’ and ‘some’ don’t you understand? An independent press would include every imaginable political orientation. Some would ask Dems to respond to the above quote. Others would hold Dubya’s feet to the fire on a Dem talking point. Others would fellate Obama. That’s ‘independent’.

Because many journalists enter after college and are influenced by the more idealistic, liberal teachings of many of their professors is it really a surprise?
Which, in my opinion, means people who REALLY want to change it and are equipped to do so, may be those who have some work and life experience first and would have to consider career changes to make that difference. Of course a pay cut may be involved in the beginning.
