INDC in Iraq: Saving lives in Fallujah

posted at 9:43 am on January 5, 2007 by Allahpundit

Bill’s first dispatch for the Examiner is up. It’s a salute to the Navy medics in the unit he’s embedded with, whose talents he had an unfortunate opportunity to observe firsthand two days ago. Quote:

With the wound dressed and the patient stabilized, the Iraqi Police carried their wounded comrade down to an Iraqi Police patrol truck (ambulances are juicy targets for insurgents) and transport to Camp Fallujah Surgical. It’s likely that the Iraqi policeman will live…

“We have sick call hours usually about now (6 p.m.),” Doc explained to me. “We take care of everything from sniffles to ‘hey, my arm is missing.’ We usually get about three to four seriously wounded per week. The most was 12 in one week. That was crazy.”

They also treat the wounded insurgents trying to kill them.

Blowback

Yeah, you qualify as “one heroic b*stard” when you actually waste time and assets caring for people loving to hate you.

Oh, so that they will learn to love us?
Seems to have worked well for the Iraelis.

Another difference between us and them.

So, I suppose those corpsmen have no idea what they’re doing, despite being hip deep in the shit.

Way to support the troops, folks.

Nice work, Bill. Just another example of news you’ll never hear from the MSM.

I like that we’re doing it. We’re a decent people.

Darned fine piece of writing by Ardolino.

I had security detail numerous times while the docs operated on guys we brought back for interregation.

I used to always wish in the back of my brains they would forget an artery here or there.

Those docs are better men than me.

I hear that. Put in the same circumstances, I’d have a damned hard time giving a rat’s ass about a wounded jihadi.

I have all the empathy of your average piece of masonry, so I’d have trouble helping people here at home. Doctors and nurses are a special breed.

Of course, I’m biased, as my wife is a nurse.

A patient bit her once and she still treated the little b’stid. No idea how she does it.

Insertion of a very painful probe?

Insertion of a very painful probe?

She’s a psych nurse. Doesn’t get to play with the fun toys.

It’s good for me, though, because if she worked in med surg or something, she’d be telling gory horror stories all the time, and I would have to respond by passing out from squeamishness.

Navy Corpsman have won more MOH than any other specialty. They are truely the most courageous and caring people I have ever met. Nothing in Bill’s article surprises me.

What is that? We are fools and they are fighting a war?

Gotcha! I’ll remember that.

Maybe you’d hate to hear the way we treated the Japanese, the SS and the Indians….Hell, we Americans allowed Sherman and his gang to rape women in the South…Our own citizens as a way to “teach a lesson”. Oh we we let Sherman bombard unarmed towns like Blescoe’s Landing….

I’m not advocating rape, but I am saying why let illegal combatants live. After WWII, we executed anyone in Germany who was part of the Werewolf units, we even executed 16 year old boys (and by a few accounts a 14 year old). Besides letting the terrorists bleed out will enable us to save money, which is one thing the Democrats keep demanding…

If we’re going to continue patching up insurgents can we at least implant some sort of tracking device so when they heal and inevitably continue their insurgent activities after being released from detainment they’ll lead us to their comrades-in-arms…?

Brilliant! Although I can hear the complaints about “personal privacy” already.
