Mexican gunmen cross border, rout National Guard

posted at 11:20 pm on January 4, 2007 by Allahpundit

Actually, I don’t know for sure that they were Mexican. All sorts of people steal across the Mexican border who aren’t native to that country. Just ask Mike McCaul.

Would “the goddamned fence” have helped here? It couldn’t have hurt. Nor could arming the National Guard or tasking them with something more ambitious than making pizza runs for the local border patrol unit.

No injuries, thank god, but if this was what it looks to be — a dry run — then that isn’t surprising. If Bush thinks he has problems with his base on immigration now, wait and see what happens next time when a few of these lowlifes spring an ambush and put a bullet in some Guardsman’s head. Henry Waxman will gain a constituency overnight that he’s scarcely dreamed of.

Everyone ready for Amnesty ’07? Then click the image to watch.

nogales.jpg

Update: Correction — the Guardsmen here were armed, as are all Guard units (supposedly) stationed at the border. But armed with what? What on earth were their assailants carrying that could have forced an armed Guard unit to retreat?

You can thank Bush and McCain for this happening in the future (Moderate and RINO in sheeple clothing).

I would just like to state right out that the biggest blame for this lies with Napolitano. When she decided to make the political ploy of sending the guard to the border, she also decided that they were to go unarmed and that they were not allowed to interact with any illegals crossing into Arizona.
They were only allowed to assist the border patrol in a very limited way.

Also this is only one of many times the Mexican military has crossed into our border, and by cross I don’t just mean barely but well into our state both on the ground and by helicopter.

Yeah it’s going to come to a head here one of these days, and when it does there will be no turning back.

AZPatriot on January 4, 2007 at 11:29 PM

I wonder if the flow of illegals has increased due to the democrats November victory.

“Yeah it’s going to come to a head here one of these days, and when it does there will be no turning back.”

I hope it comes to a head quick. We’re at 12,000,000 illegals and counting. With those numbers, amnesty on the way (which only provides incentive for even more illegals to cross), and just about everything in this country printed and broadcast in spanish as well as english … I’d say we’re running out of time.

darwin on January 4, 2007 at 11:34 PM

Dang! The Democrats have only been OFFICIALLY in charge for what… 10-12 hours, and we have already had an armed, hostile incursion on American soil and members of our military fired upon?

Gee, I figured it would take at least a week.

How [explicative] ‘ed is it when the National Guard has to turn tail and call in the BP for help.

No offense meant to the BP.

In AZ, as a civilian, it is basically the same drill. So am I am told by friends.

You get fired on… you take cover/exit the area.

Now the National Guard (acting in the interests of the US government) has to duck and run as well.

WTF is wrong with that picture.

BP or National Guard I don’t care; if they are fired on let them fire back.

F15Mech on January 4, 2007 at 11:51 PM

There’s no one more frustrated than the National Guard. They’re all combat trained but they’d go to jail if they fire a shot. INSANITY!

I doubt the Democrats gaining power has already increased illegal crossings, but their plans to raise the minimum wage will effectively serve as an open order for even more illegals. So, if it’s even possible for things to get worse than they already are, it will certainly do so shortly (unless Bush grows the balls to start using his veto pen, a scenario I expect is highly unlikely).

I’m trying imagine how a soldier in Iraq feels about hearing news that his fellow service men are being attacked and routed at the US border.

I don’t exactly know what the purpose of sending 40,000 new troops to Iraq would be and I haven’t seen where those advocating for it have a purpose in mind, but those troops would most definitely have a purpose if deployed to our own southern border.

It damn well should. We need to play this the Chicagoland way…

Malone: You said you wanted to get Capone. Do you really wanna get him? You see what I’m saying is, what are you prepared to do?
Ness: Anything and everything in my power.
Malone: And *then* what are you prepared to do? If you open the can on these worms you must be prepared to go all the way because they’re not gonna give up the fight until one of you is dead.
Ness: How do you do it then?
Malone: You wanna know how you do it? Here’s how, they pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That’s the Chicago way, and that’s how you get Capone! Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that?
Ness: I have sworn to capture this man with all legal powers at my disposal and I will do so.
Malone: Well, the Lord hates a coward. Do you know what a blood oath is, Mr. Ness?
Ness: Yes.
Malone: Good, ’cause you just took one.

Well, it was nice to live in a First World country while it lasted. The people who fought in the Mexican-American War must be rolling in their graves about now.

Long-term effects of our immigration policy: California now has the third lowest average IQ in the country (ahead of only Mississippi and Louisiana).

Alabama: 95.7
California 95.5
Louisiana 95.3
Mississippi 94.2

West Virginia (98.7) and Arkansas (97.5) are literally kicking California’s ass in the brains game. Sad.

In a survey of 8th grade aptitude in science among 44 states in 2005, California also came in second to last. Only Mississippi ranked lower.

California is now down there with the poorest states of the Deep South. As Hillary might say, they’re running it like a plantation and you know what I mean.

When they cross my border, I won’t be afraid to repel them. I have weapons that I will use to defend my family and property. Thank you, James Madison and company, for including the 2nd ammendment in our Constitution.

windbag on January 5, 2007 at 12:55 AM

The funny thing is, if they ever do kill a National Guardsman, there will likely be no legal consequences so long as they manage to keep on, or escape to, the Mexican side of the border. Even if we can identify them, Mexico will not extradite the perps if they face a life sentence or the death penalty in the United States.

Ridiculous is too mild of a word to describe this situation. We don’t have a wall now when we should have been working on it since shortly after 9/11. Thank you, Bush, Hagel, Martinez, McCain, Specter, and the rest of you RiNOs for your concern and your effort.

That can’t possibly be true. It would be the end of Bush’s presidency if he deployed service men with guns and no bullets. Let’s give the man a little bit of credit.

Perchant on January 5, 2007 at 1:01 AM

The National Guard are not allowed to engage illegal aliens they see crossing the border–even if they’re fired upon. They’re suppose to just document and call the border patrol. Their official duty is basically mundane tasks and grunt work.

This WAS a dry run, to test the teeth of the National Guard. Why else would it have happened, and then the gunmen retreat? And there more than likely will be more incidents, some with border patrol or national guard casulties. It’s a small ticking bomb that is building up on the border, and if nothing is done, it will go off.

The silent war over the southern border is just beginning, and no one is paying attention except for the poor illegals who are thirsty in the desert.

Enoxo on January 5, 2007 at 1:10 AM

That can’t possibly be true. It would be the end of Bush’s presidency if he deployed service men with guns and no bullets. Let’s give the man a little bit of credit.

I don’t know the full story about whether or not the National Guard on the border is armed, how well they might be armed, or what their mission parameters are, but at this point I’m not inclined to give Bush any credit.

tommy1 on January 5, 2007 at 1:12 AM

This Just Sucks. Bush is so strong on the Iraq war, but wont defend our borders. WTF is up with that? It isn’t like he can get elected again. I’m getting a little weary of his whole attitude about immigration. Jobs Americans wont do my ass. Get rid of the illegals, close the borders, (all of them) and put the able bodied welfare rats to work.

I supported Bush 100% up until a couple of months ago. About 85% and falling…….

R D on January 5, 2007 at 1:13 AM

Wouldn’t be the first time in history, (Not even the first time under a Republican President) that our military has been put in harms way with empty weapons… I know that from personal experience.

And given Bush’s record on the border, and that it was widely and publicly announced at the very begining that the Guard would have absolutel NO enforcement or apprehension duties while on the border, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if there weren’t any ‘legal’ ammo within the grasp of a guardsman anywhere along the border.

LegendHasIt on January 5, 2007 at 1:26 AM

The same problem exists in this situation as in Iraq, although for different, and inexplicable in both cases, reasons.

The problem is the lack of sensible rules of engagement. This s**t should not be allowed to happen. Just as in Iraq, where our guys should be given the flexibility to get the job done.

When is our government going to acknowledge that our weak border enforcement is going to result in a disaster

hillbillyjim on January 5, 2007 at 1:51 AM

What on earth were their assailants carrying that could have forced an armed Guard unit to retreat?

Consider the possibility that it was .50 cal machine guns, as may have happened in this Jan. 2006 incident. The link also mentions how our newly-minted Intelligence Chair, “al-Qaeda al-Schmeda” Reyes dismissed the concerns of border agents about heavily-armed Mexicans as sensationalized and agenda-driven.

eeyore on January 5, 2007 at 1:52 AM

If you see Tancredo on the evening news talking about this incident it is all over. The reconquistas have overplayed there hand.

Bill C on January 5, 2007 at 2:08 AM

Another report said it was a four man observation team, and that the state mandated S.O.P. for any dangerous encounter was retreat and call for back up. Scary stuff, but the illegals could have been armed with Ruger 10/22′s and the N.G. would still have had to call for back up and leave the area.

It’s likely that the policy is there to prevent the Guard from opening up on Mexican troops moonlighting for cartels, and thus escalating the boarder chaos into a border war.

I could be wrong. However, didn’t this sort of thing used to be called an act of war?

Didn’t we make an armed excursion into Mexico (with Black Jack Pershing and Patton) before WW I over less than just happened here?

Perhaps we need to start at home. Perhaps we need to secure and protect our borders then kick the Mexican Army’s ass!

If we allow our soldiers to be killed by foreign troops and not allow them to defend themselves, then those who send the into harm’s way are guilty of dereliction and those soldiers blood will be upon their hands.

I would like to think that the American people would be against that, too. After all, they are our sons, daughters, dads, moms, etc..

Again we, and ours pay for the ineptitude of those in power who make the decisions.

We need to allow our warfighters the latitude to defend themselves – no matter what!

May God Bless and watch over our soldiers!

“What on earth were their assailants carrying that could have forced an armed Guard unit to retreat?”

Guardsmen on the border ops are nothing more than a “show the flag” operation to make the taxpayers feel like something is being done. They probably have orders to retreat and not get engaged in any confrontations. Or possibly there was this nagging thought in the back of their minds that if they defended themselves from some thugs on the border they would eventually end up defending themselves from charges at a court-martial seeing how our government is concerned more for law breakers than law abiding citizens.

Imagine the MSM headlines if one of these thugs had been killed in a firefight. The poor undocumented aliens killed trying to make a better life for their families or some such PC crap.

F15Mech: I’m CCW in VA as well, do you know if there is reciprocity with Arizona?

It doesn’t matter how much ordnance our guys are packing, as long as they’re hamstrung by weak-ass Rules of Engagement. Bastard politicians won’t even let them defend themselves.

I’d rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.

The Monster on January 5, 2007 at 9:50 AM

I predict he will be out in 2008.

right2bright on January 5, 2007 at 9:12 AM

That’s a bummer. I was hoping he’d last till January 20, 2009.

Whatever all the facts are,any such incursion to any degree needs to be met with a maximum of force and ferocity. Enough is enough. What exactly are we waiting for? News that some small town 50 miles into Arizona’s been wiped out?

As to the wonderful media. Been watching the news since seven o’clock this morning, including Fox and others, and haven’t seen a word of this mentioned. Having read this, I’m going to go back and check on the TV again. But I have a feeling their biggest concern for today will still be whether or not Britney Spears is wearing any underwear.

They’re just doing the jobs we fat ‘n lazy Americans won’t do.

I’d throw up, but I’m all out of fuel from yesterday.

“Undocumented Immigrant” is now hereby replaced with “Paramilitary Enemy Combatant.”

All take note. And aim carefully.

California now has the third lowest average IQ in the country (ahead of only Mississippi and Louisiana).

And I can’t wait for the liberals among us to go on TV and point out that we “stole the land from them in the first place so they are doing nothing wrong”…

NRA4Freedom on January 5, 2007 at 10:10 AM

What do you expect from our “friends”.

They are going to come in with the help of RINO leadership and SH!T on the carpet and then demand that we clean it up.

Our sovereignty is doomed if we don’t take this invasion serious.

Other than that, I think I’m going to Baha Fresh for a snack.

This incident may provide a useful benchmark for the right to keep and bear arms: We have a right to keep and bear arms at least sufficient to keep us from having to retreat before los banditos.

Some more incentive for our felonious little freinds to pull a Speedy Gonzales over the border or doo the back stroke across the Rio Grande.

Unarmed soldiers… I’m surprised anyone is surprised.

Our soldiers are often under modified rules of engagement where they have no magazine in their weapon, as was the case in the 1983 Beirut bombing. The marine sentries at the gate did not have sufficient time to locate magazine, insert magazine, chamber the first round, take aim and fire at the jihadist’s crashing the gate.

This speaks greatly to the character of our military, as well as the lack of any such character to our elected representatives.

Just to make things worse…on Drudge just reporting that a bill for allowing Social Security benefit credit for those working here illegally.
Working on it for months, kept from us till now.
