Video: Boise St. 43, Oklahoma 42

posted at 8:15 pm on January 2, 2007 by Allahpundit

One of the great college football games ever played went down last night in Glendale and ended, incredibly enough, with the statue of liberty play.

Naturally, I didn’t catch a minute of it. Thank heavens for the ‘Tube.

Sorry this isn’t better quality, though.

Is the entire game posted somewhere? I missed it as well.

AAHHH, Michelle is on O’Reilly, gotta go catch up via the DVR.

Went to bed early. Thank God for the ‘net.

mikeyboss on January 2, 2007 at 8:34 PM

I only caught the first half, but saw plenty of highlights. A remarkable last few minutes.

BTW, the Jersey boys kicked some butt in the Rose Bowl, in case you missed it.

Just saw Michelle and Kirsten; do I smell a skankification thread coming?

Although I live on the East Coast, I happened to stay up to watch the end. Just an incredible game. Like George Mason in the NCAA tournament, what made this game great was that Boise State WON the game, rather than Oklahoma LOSING the game.

I think that Statue of Liberty play on the 2 point conversion is going to go down in college football history as one of the most exciting moments. We’ll be seeing that play on TV fifty years from now.

asc85 on January 2, 2007 at 8:35 PM

An incredible game. I turned it on and sort of watched the first half. I sat down for the second half and didn’t leave my seat until it was over. Riveting. They were saying on the radio that ESPN needs to secure the rights from Fox so that the game can be reshown on ESPN Classics. An instant classic for sure.

As an Oregon alum, I had to hear all season about how the refs blew the call in the Oregon/OU game blah blah blah. Particularly satisfying to see Oklahoma get beat in this way.

I saw it…GREATEST GAME EVER!!!!11!!!one!!!1!

I saw it too .. amazing.

A game for the Ages.

Good news for Boise State- Beating Oklahoma on a behind the back Statue of Liberty that had Amos Alonzo Stagg grinning.

Bad news for Boise State- Coach Petersen and his gigantic set of cojones will soon be heading for greener pastures.

there it is on January 2, 2007 at 8:46 PM

Had the opportunity to view the last quarter.

An amazing finish for Boise State. Clearly, when it came to crunch time, Oklahoma was out coached, and outplayed. Gotta hand it to a gritty, and gutsy bunch from Idaho that came to play in a big time BCS game.

byteshredder on January 2, 2007 at 8:55 PM

Petersen is in his first year at BSU. Don’t think he’s going anywhere yet. He inherited an excellent program from his predecessor, who went to Colorado (name escapes me at the moment).

JammieWearingFool on January 2, 2007 at 8:57 PM

Oregon wins, woohoo.
Boise State wins, woohoo.
Arkansas loses, shoot.
LSU plays tomorrow, can’t wait to see them blow Notre Dame away.

marianpaul on January 2, 2007 at 8:57 PM

A great finish. You would never see that in an NFL game. I am not knocking pro football, but so many pro teams look exactly alike and are too often afraid of losing rather than going after victory.

freebird on January 2, 2007 at 8:58 PM

Oregon wins, woohoo.

Oregon was blown off the field by BYU, 38-8.

That’s it, Allah. You’re banned.

see-dubya on January 2, 2007 at 9:04 PM

I saw every minute of this – fact is often stranger than fiction. If it were a movie the reviewers would call it too hokie! The best part was that unlike some NCAA teams (U of Miami comes to mind) Boise State’s players seemed like good guys, none were arrested before the game, they were poised and professional and gracious in victory. What a tribute to a great program.

iam7545 on January 2, 2007 at 9:08 PM

Most exciting and entertaining college football game I’ve ever seen.

A hook-and-lateral on 4th and 18 to tie in regulation with time running out and an insane, perfectly executed Statue of Liberty play for the two point conversion to win in overtime.

WOWEE!!!

That coach and QB from Boise State had malkins.

fogw on January 2, 2007 at 9:13 PM

one of the best games of the year at the start of the year and along with minnesota v. texas tech one of the best of the bowl games

Defector01 on January 2, 2007 at 9:17 PM

The Texas Tech/Minnesota game, the Oregon State/Missouri game, and now this one! Best. Bowl Season. Ever. (and at this point I could give a rip about the so-called “championship” game.

Spassvogel on January 2, 2007 at 9:18 PM

I’m a huge OU fan. But BSU earned the win.

cmay on January 2, 2007 at 9:37 PM

Best game I saw all year, and the best finish I’ve seen since the 1996 USC-UCLA game when the Bruins came from way back to win 48-41 in double overtime. I’ve preferred the NCAA overtime format to the NFL’s ever since.

Spiny Norman on January 2, 2007 at 9:38 PM

Almost missed it, but remembered about it just in time to catch the fourth (and OT). I was in Boise for Christmas, and every other person there was wearing a Broncos shirt. This was their Super Bowl.

frankj on January 2, 2007 at 10:00 PM

My wife didn’t believe me when I told her the play was called Statue of Liberty. Anyway, one of the best games I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch.

Physics Geek on January 2, 2007 at 10:36 PM

Mash Potatoes and Gravy sauce! Woohoo! Yeah you can’t get more American than that game. Even after all the crazy impossible plays the running back for Boise is being interviewed when the head cheerleader comes over to hug him. Turns out it’s his girlfriend. He gets down on his knees and proposes to her and she says “Yes!” I question the timing! God Bless America!

Drtuddle on January 2, 2007 at 10:41 PM

Idaho…NO you da ho.

Great job BSU…

GaryC on January 2, 2007 at 10:44 PM

I thought this game was over about three or four times, but Boise State was brilliant. To come back from the interception for a touchdown at the end of the game, and then to win the game with the Statue of Liberty on a two point conversion in overtime! Smurf fan here in the deep south, ya’ll.

d1carter on January 2, 2007 at 11:13 PM

Of all things, my first post on this forum has to be about this.

Went from thrilled (when we tied) to ecstatic (interception return) to shocked (hook and ladder) to ecstatic (Peterson touchdown) to defeated in about 10 minutes.

What a game, and what a win. Couldn’t have happened to a better team. Hard to root against them. Congrats BSU.

I think marianpaul was referring to the Oregon/Oklahoma game in September. As an Oregon alum this is all I have to say about the Las Vegas Bowl: It’s baskeball season and Oregon is one of three D-I schools still undefeated! Bring on UCLA!!

Mallard T. Drake on January 2, 2007 at 11:41 PM

Fox Sports has high quality video highlights from all four quarters here (including the marriage proposal) -

The Minnesota game was the worst game ever…….what are talking about! Of course being a MN fan…….. ; ‘ )

VikingGoneWild on January 3, 2007 at 10:06 AM

As an OU fan who lives 4.2 miles from campus, it was a GREAT game even though OU lost. B-State, hats off to you, well played and coached game.

As for the Sooners, they had a better season than expected after giving the boot to the quarterback before the season even started.

As an Oregon alum, I had to hear all season about how the refs blew the call in the Oregon/OU game blah blah blah. Particularly satisfying to see Oklahoma get beat in this way.

Mallard T. Drake on January 2, 2007 at 8:38 PM

Incredible! Not only did YOUR conference refs blow 2 calls that game, the replay judge admitted he made a mistake. What did Coach Stoops do about it? He held 1 press conference, answered questions without totally trashing the refs and said that OU should have played better so that the events at the end of the game should not have mattered.

Still, OU/B-State was a great game.

Hey Golden Gopher, didn’t that Bowl game get your coach fired? Maybe a good thing.

Drtuddle on January 3, 2007 at 10:47 AM

It sure did….I liked Mason however. Not much to work with there. MN is a hockey school……YEAH BABY!

Actually we were joking Sat. that the Vikings coach (Childress) called the MN Gophers plays in the 2nd half when the Goph’s did nothing vs TX Tech……it kind of reminded us of the Vikes offense all year….thank God it’s over. #7 here we come.

BTW, I caught the last 5 minutes of the BS/OU game….WOW.
I feel for the OU fans…….I experienced the same kick to the yo-yo’s in the 98 NFC championship game. A curse on the house of the Falcons!

VikingGoneWild on January 3, 2007 at 11:35 AM

I saw the 4th Quarter, but my GF dragged me out of it at the beginning of OT….maybe that explains why I’m about to dump her. She just is whiny and it is always her way or the highway…

Man, I like her, but I just can’t take it any more. When she is nice, she is GREAT, but watch out if she doesn’t get her way.

Tim Burton on January 3, 2007 at 6:34 PM

It is a SUPER rarity if I ever watch college ball but on this night I tuned into this game. From the first few possesions I knew it was going to be a “barnburner.” And I was right. On the edge of my seat to the fatal interception with OS ahead and 58 seconds left.

Then that unbelievable pass and lateral. Then that variation of the statue of liberty. WOW–what a game. I would watch the whole thing over again. It was a true classic.

Next nite for the heck of it I tuned in the Wake Forrest game. Dish rag. Blah. Goodnite. There’s only one “Bronco Mania” and I’m glad I saw it AND that you posted the best part of the game Allah.
