Somali Islamist Cowards Flee Kismayo

Just like they fled from Mogadishu when the Ethiopians approached, the Islamic Courts Union forces are hightailing it out of their last stronghold of Kismayo. Now they’re blustering about starting an insurgency. Whatever. They had vowed to stand and fight it out, but as I noted here, they learned it’s a lot harder to fight trained men with guns instead of women and children.
I expect some of the soldiers will simply desert and blend back in to society. As for the runners, where are they going? If you imagine Somalia shaped like a big number 7, they are now down in the very bottom of the 7 and have no place to go but Kenya:
Residents of Kismayo said the remaining Islamists were heading toward Ras Kamboni, a small town on the Kenyan border which western intelligence officers say has been used as a terrorist hide-out before.
Kenya officials have said that they have increased security on the border to keep the Islamists from escaping through Kenya.
I expect the big fish will get away, like they almost always do, but I think they will have trouble successfully fomenting a large-scale insurgency in Somalia. All the coverage suggests Somalis were thrilled to see them leave. Nobody likes the Taliban.
Except, you know, Yale.
Anyway, this one’s for you, Ethiopia:

See-Dubya—did they leave you home alone in the HotAir chamber today?

And Michael Jackson singing the line “We are the children.” That had to be deliberate on someone’s part.

So the mighty islamists flee yet again in the face of REAL fighting forces. It is a lesson we still dont seem to have learned..they only WANT to fight from behind women and children and mosques. Take the gloves off all across the world and the problem gets solved sooner rather than later.
Bravo Ethiopia! Thank you!

See-Dubya – Thanks for the walk down memory lane – the first time I saw this way back when, I remember thinking- why is it that so many so called intelligent people had to continually refer to a written song sheet for a song with so few words. Put four Jazz musicians together – no rehersal- and they can play for hours without ever saying a word to each other.
My first thought looking back? Typical Hollywood Liberal approach to anything – DO or say anything that make themselves feel good – So much for singing the world to peace and harmony.

I agree with you labwrs:
The mighty Ethopian military has acheived in 2 weeks what needed to be done….perhaps if we took the gloves off and stopped giving a hoot about what the msm. un, dems, etc. think and allowed our forces to do the same we could accomplish the mission.

The 2007 motto, a new year resolution TAKE OFF THE GLOVES!
I’ve said it here before as well. We need to let our forces to what they are trained to do, fight for freedom!

This news about Ethopia makes me want to play Ghost Recon: Desert Siege.

I bet it was banning soccer viewing that ended their short, cruel, stupid reign of terror.
GWB should have the Ethiopian ambassador over for a celebratory toast (sparkling cider for both) to thank his people for doing what needed to be done.
(Where were the usual suspects – the MSM and the UN, et al- protesting the “illegal” methods used by this neighboring government and its troops for “invading” a “sovereign state”?)
Bush’s New Year’s resolution should be “Let’s Go Ethiopian in Iraq!“

This is not covered much in the media. Good excuse they have with Saddam’s demise, Mr. Ford’s funeral, the New Year, etc. This, however, is way more important.
What a shining example and inspiration!

“islamist cowards”
Um, isn’t that just a little bit redundant?
My how things have changed, I remember when Ethiopia was synamo … sinanim … sinamin … *meant the same thing* as poor and starving. Now they’re showin’ the world how to kick jihadi ass. Big bad brave holy warriors love to brutalize women and children but run like punkass little b*tches in the face of grown men.
Good idea Buck. “BGM-109: Rockin’ The Mog, hit after hit!”
Tony737 on January 1, 2007 at 4:55 PM
No kiddin’ Tony. Those poor, starving, Ethiopian kids we felt so sorry for, that looked so pathetic with their huge eyes and round, malnourished bellies have grown up and are now kicking Islamist ass … showing the US that it can be done, given a big enough set of cajones. They aren’t worried about hearts and minds, or what the UN and NYT will say about their efforts. They are fighting to save their country, their way of life. They are doing what needs to be done. They came to kick some ass and that is what they are doing. The Pentagon would do well to pay attention here.
I’ve said it before … there have been more “innocent” lives lost in our Middle East engagements due to efforts to minimize collateral damage, win hearts and minds, and fight a PC war. If we had gone in with the top priority of getting the job done, done right and done quickly, this would have been over months ago, years maybe.

Ey Vinnie! dees guys is prety good. Lets put’em on da parole.
Maybe we can start an American foreign legion with the Ethiopians as the first hires.
If they’re not actually American citizens, political correctness can go out the window.
Speakup on January 1, 2007 at 10:09 PM
Right on! This pretty much says it all – let our warfighters do their jobs and then they will be able to do what needs to be done without PC or armchair generals in Congress trying to fight wars from the PCDC.
In the meantime, may God Bless them (our warfighters), the IDF, and the Ethiopian Army in their fight to preserve freedom.
Emmett J. on January 1, 2007 at 11:47 PM
If the USA would have just let our forces go do their thing, IRAQ would be mostly over with.
Way to go Ethiopia! Some of us are cheering you on.

The “realpolitik” answer would be to hunt the leadership all down, and summarily execute them when captured. Each “soldier” should be given the opportunity to surrender to the government and be pardoned upon doing so. Failure to surrender results in execution when finally brought to account.
Remember, we are dealing with people who still think that this is the 7th Century!
Our Rules of Engagement are meant for an opponent that doesn’t murder innocent civilians, violate the laws of war, or beheads their kidnapped captives.
“Nuance” is a term that they do not understand. And “mercy” is granted only when their submission is complete. That’s what the word “Islam” means, you know: Submission.
