Well I hate to be picky, but I think one of the hallmarks of a “fact” is that it’s provable which pretty much (you’ll pardon the expression) shoots your example all to hell. (I think this is why this kind of stuff is referred to as “articles of

And I base my Iraq “government” comment on the established principle that one of the requirements of a legitimate government is sovereignty, i.e. supremacy of authority and force within its borders.

I was under the impression that the Muslim Sabbath started Friday? I seem to recall that stores etc in Iran, Turkey, are closed on Fridays? I may well be mistaken, been years since I was in that part of the world.

Wow, if this goes through it will help the Iraqi government.

So, much for quotes. How many hours is Baghdad ahead of us? What day of the week do they go to mosque? What time does Eid start? I’m trying to figure out the window of opportunity.

Baghdad is 8 or 9 hours ahead of us I think. The notion that executions can’t be held on Friday (the Muslim Sabbath) or over holidays, one of which is coming up, is a Western notion. Apparently executions have been held on the Sabbath and during holidays in Iraq all the time. (This may be more of a reflection of the secular nature of Saddam’s regime though….)

Saddam’s daughter and attorney have been advised to visit him so one assumes this is any hour.

Answer #1 – Iraq is 3 hours ahead of UTC, so for those of you on the East Coast, they’re 8 hours ahead. For me, it’s 9, those of you getting snowed under in Denver again (you’ve got to love global warming </sarcasm_cold>), it’s 10, and those on the West Coast, it’s 11. Everybody else, you can do the math.
