BTW: What made you think that Kwanzaa was an exclusively “Black” holiday? Just because it was started by a blackman? There are White people who celebrate Kwanzaa as it’s principles of “Unity” ,”empowerment”, blah, blah, are universal, though sickeningly liberal.

Karenga clearly created this holiday for Blacks but has softened his “Black only” stance somewhat when in his 1997 book of Kwanzaa, twenty years later he says the following:

“Kwanzaa is clearly an African Holiday created for African peoples. But other people can and do celebrate it, just like other people participate in Cinco de Mayo besides Mexicans; Chinese New Year besides Chinese; Native American pow wows besides Native Americans.” p. 110, Kwanzaa: A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture

In spite of attempts to make this celebration multicultural, Kwanzaa was clearly created with the intention of this being a “Black Only” cultural event. This would explain stories regarding white parents of black children who have been banned from entering Kwanzaa celebrations (“White Mother Unwelcomed at Black Gathering,” San Francisco Chronicle; San Francisco, Calif.; Dec 29, 1993).

Find me a good African beer and I will be more than happy to celebrate Kwanza.

I once had one called “Mamba” (from Kenya, I believe) in a Chicago restaurant. Don’t know if it was any good, but it came in a great big bottle. Sometimes quantity is quality.

That said, he’ll probably assume the same about this, just because he’s a raging lunatic who will totally miss the joke and assume it’s a dig at black people…

My neighbor sent me a Kwanzaa card. I’m not sure why. Yes, she’s black but she is Catholic and goes to mass every day.

From the political angle, it’s a simple matter of what is and isn’t PC to be spoken of. It’s ok to talk about the “underdog”, because it isn’t likely to threaten the mighty wall of separation of church and state.

At least the media hasn’t (yet) censored “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. A child gets more truth in that hour than they would from ten years of watching TV news.

According to the now famous geneticist Spencer Wells, an American/Stanford Ph.D.employed at Oxford, white people haven’t been around for very long. For more info do a search on the book entitled “The Journey of Man” I highly recommend the National Geographic Special presentation of the same material and same title available on DVD.) Humans built on the current “software version” of our DNA have been around for roughly 60,000 years or (probably more accurately) roughly 2000 generations. But the DNA evidence in our blood samples indicate that the Europeans or Caucasions have only been around for about 20,000 years. African bushmen are the oldest race of humans on the planet, followed closely by the Aboriginies of Australia. The east asian races are older than white people as well. So white people are sorta’ like the “new kid on the block.” Would it be less than magnanomous of me to say that it appears that they have sometimes had a bit of difficulty “fitting in” with the rest of the “more established” peoples of the earth? But the statement that “they hate themselves” should probably be used exclusively in reference to white liberals. I’m not sure that I ever remember seeing a conservative that subscribes to that kind of self-denigration.

Black people were riped from Africa and striped of all African identity. In effect we are a new race of people. Our experience is so unique and interwoven into American history and culture it is self defining.

Isn’t it about time we own it? Our strength and perseverance are the epitome of the American dream. The human rights struggle is an undeniable legacy to the Greatness of America.

Liberals resent this and try to turn it into a negative. It is proof of “bad America”. It is proof of “racist America”.

Kwanza is another form of segregation and confusion – like the Nation of Islam, Black Jesus, Black Jews – etc.

When I look at black Americans, I see a long history of persevering against oppression, and I think about the courage that they showed working toward their long-deserved civil rights.

When a typical lefty liberal look at black American history, they don’t learn (nor can they really understand) that the perseverance was noble per se, as evidenced by the good it did and the rights it won; their tunnel-vision perspective only allows them to think about how evil and unfair the oppression was.

My apologies if this sounds even the least bit condescending; God knows I don’t mean to condescend to a fellow American.
