Columbia to discipline punks who disrupted Minuteman’s speech

Which could mean suspension or expulsion, or it could mean censure or “disciplinary warning.” Which do you suppose it’ll be?

Powerline has the text of the letter from Columbia president Lee Bollinger. Be sure to read the update.

Shorter Bollinger: “Eh, throw the wingnuts a bone so they’ll shut up about this.”

Mob rule = intellectualism

Yup. Pretty damn close to my undergrad and grad experience.

Really? Ya’ think? Naaah. I’m fairly certain that the administration at Clod-dumbia is the same as all of the other universities around the country. Their idea of punishment is forcing the students to eat “dorm food.”

“Pompous and verbose”

Precisely.

Freedom of speech for me, but not for thee!

Entelechy on December 24, 2006 at 12:57 PM

I hope the punishment includes a beating with a cement-filled rubber hose.

Hey, if they love communism so much, why not punish them like the communists would?

quax1 on December 24, 2006 at 12:59 PM

Punishment is dinner with Rosie “Butch” for a week.

What I read the president’s statement to say is that Columbia will now exert more control over student groups’ speaker choices. Now, who do you think that will hurt, students on the left or the right?

Then, too, consider the disrupters’ punishment. What ever will it be? Perhaps having to whiz on Christians at campus religious events?

These people are a disgrace to the university and are a clear representation of the intellectual dishonesty rampant in the universities.

Debating the guy in a QA session would be a worthy forum for free speech. Shouting down a view you do not agree with is intellectualy dishonest. I also think that it shows lack of confidence your position can stand on the merits of fact.

At the very least, they should be forced to reimburse the university for all “speaking” fees, security fees and any other cost incurred due their juvenile behaviour.

WoW! I am really impressed by this guys. Next time they decide to assault a Conservative group, the conservative group should have a bunch of retired Spec-forces guys there to fight back.

Let the hilarity occur. A bunch of guys who live off of pain and a bunch of pansies who do everything they can to keep away from pain.

Part of our problem is that we don’t fight back….literally. :D

Yup, they’ll get a firm smack on the behind, and sent back to their dorm rooms to “Think about what you’ve done, young lady/man!!!”

In the words of our lovely host:

BOO-FREAKIN’ HOO

Merry Christmas, or whatever it is that you do, all.

No Soup For You!

…aaand that will about do it.

Along with Pompous and verbose, they left out “obtuse”. Bollinger’s about as sharp as a bowling ball.

Columbia’s only going to do two things, and the first one’s jack.

ReubenJCogburn on December 24, 2006 at 8:51 PM

Columbia president Lee Bollinger proudly releases his letter that promises to do too little too late while arguing for the rights of the miscreants. What a crock!

Columbia University remains a shining example of what you can expect from an institute of liberal education, ie: nothing much.

Protesters unfurled a banner on stage during one speech, and were then attacked by the speaker’s supporters, including some from outside Columbia. The melee was broken up by Columbia security officers.

Not so sure that the people we think should be punished are the ones that will be.
