Video: TSA missing thousands of jackets and badges
posted at 11:19 am on December 22, 2006 by Bryan
WAOI has the video report here.
Disturbing new evidence reveals a threat to our homeland security is worse than originally thought.
The News Four WOAI Trouble Shooters first uncovered records last May showing 1400 airport security badges and uniforms are missing from airports here and across the country.
Now, new information obtained by Trouble Shooter Brian Collister shows a dramatic increase in the total number.
—
Now, we’ve received new records revealing the number of missing badges and uniforms has more than doubled and is now at 3719.
After our initial investigation, a source within TSA told us agency officials sent out an email urgently asking every airport security director to immediately report any missing items they have not already reported to TSA headquarters.
I’m sure they’ll all get right on that.
It gets worse:
Congressman Lamar Smith spoke with the Trouble Shooters about the problem during a recent visit to his office on the North Side of San Antonio. Smith sits on the Homeland Security Committee and did not know the problem was getting worse until we showed him the new information. That’s because TSA sent him a letter in August claiming the numbers were much lower. In that letter, Assistant Secretary Kip Hawley told the Congressman that TSA did not have any idea of the number of missing uniforms and that only 1375 ID badges were reported missing. That’s not true. TSA had the larger numbers in May, nearly four months before they sent the letter to Smith.
Congressman Smith believes they’re withholding information that he feels is absolutely critical to our national security.
“We have to do better or, frankly, they’ll bear some responsibility if there is some kind of misuse of those badges and uniforms,” Smith said.
TSA takes a bum rap for lots of things that are beyond its and its ground personnel’s control, but this is unacceptable.

This is what happens when everyone tries to be so PC. We need to send Jack Bauer out looking for them. (Been watching the 24 DVDs, so in 24 mode)

This wouldn’t have happened if the advanced thinkers had remembered to form the Transportation Safety Administration Safety Administration. When forming new regulatory agencies, one must always include the proper regulatory agency regulatory agency. Remember: The shepherds are sheep, too.

I’d be concerned if 1 badge was missing and these guys are having a sissing contest over thousands!

Read “Flying Blind”, by Michael Smerchonish. It has the answers to this problem!

I think we’re getting only half of the story.
Are the badges anonymous? Are they more of an ID/security badge, with their picture on it?
The screeners, ect tend to get to know one another, working the same shifts and areas. It’s easy… “Oh, you’re new? Well, let me see your ID…”
Here’s another check… are there any Arabs working in TSA right now? Yea, I said it!!

The last statement “Let’s have legislation to fine anyone that loses their badge or uniform” is simply moronic. How about we fine anyone that doesn’t report losing their badge or uniform? God forbid we should get info on how the stuff went missing…
Also, the badges should have to be swiped when entering a secured area. The “flash and pass” thing is nonsense when you consider that the traveling public practically has to strip to get into the boarding area.
A reported missing badge could be tagged and not allow admittance to a secure area. The person trying to use the badge could be arrested at the secured gateway. Am I making too much sense for the Federal Gov’t???

I have to swipe my badge to get into work and I’m not even in a high security area. Why shouldn’t TSA employees have to do the same?

SO -If the socialist Dems take over WalMart I guess Plasma TV’s will be dissappearing in similar numbers.

The solution is to tattoo each TSA employees’ badge number on his or her ass and make them all go naked. Moreover, we’ll totally cinch the problem of muslim terrorists infiltrating the TSA, if we advertise that the tattoo ink is specially prepared from the foreskins of you-know-who.

It’s probably racist… I’m not creative enough to imagine just how, but I’m sure that’s also because I’m racist.

I hope the universe doesn’t implode by my saying so honora, but I agree with you 100% on this one.

This is not rocket science, just carelessness on the part of TSA management. I work in an area where we use security badges to enter our work areas. If we lose a badge, we have to go through a complete investigation as to how it was lost (which must be completed before a replacement badge is issued). If someone were to lose two badges, they can be terminated (fired, not killed). I don’t see how an agency with “Security” in its name can be so insecure.

Well, as far as the jackets go I don’t see the big deal about it being some sort of possible threat.
Seriously.
The reality is that the jackets can be easily reproduced by any competent screen printer.

OH

ONLY ???
1375 badges divided by 5 per plane = 275 planes.
Or if they really are organized and need more terrorists per plane, at 10 per plane = 27 airplanes EASY.
They also have their “How To Manual” printed by the NY TIMES for TERRORISTS- HOW TO ATTACK AMERICA.
Has the SLIMES reached a NEW LOW? Is that even possible? I would swear that a terrorist cell is deeply inside the NYTimes. nuke the times? (hope no ban goes into effect for that)
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Think about it. Over 3700??
If a team of 100 terror-minded people took over airplanes/secure areas, there would be 37 teams. One per city?
37 of the most populated cities in America?

If you see someone dressed in TSA, praying to Mecca, asking for extra seat belt extenders, carrying the quoran (koran or whatever), and sitting in different parts of the plane, changing seats. Don’t be alarmed, just a couple of friendly imam’s flying the friendly skies.

I think this is the least of the TSA’s problems. Have you seen the caliber of employees they really do hire. I have travelle dover 35 times this year on a place. I have yet to get a feeling of competence and security from this agency. As a matter of fact, I get down right concerned about the ones they have hired. We would be better off with Mexican illegals running the TSA in many cases.

You seem to be some kind of race fetishist. Maybe you’re one of those conservatives that believes there is no such thing as racism anymore, therefore anyone “crying” racism must be a “Jesse Jackson type”, huh? If so, you’re an idiot to boot. Why would you bring race into a story like this as if someone is “always accusing you of racism” or white’s in general. Well, any psychiatrist that analyzed your silly post would say that it smacks of an inordinate obsession with…guess what?…..RACE.

TSA could probably find most of the missing equipment by contacting the previously fired employees. There should be
some that were terminated. I mean, an employee can only “feel off” so many grandmas before the boss gets suspicious.

Most agencies have policies dictating what is to be done when identification is lost or stolen. I have several different ID badges for different airports, and one from another agency. Each airport has their own procedures of what happens/could happen if an ID is lost, and what a holder is required to do if theirs is lost.
It would seem to me that TSA management just doesn’t give a damn about ID’s being lost, or whether any policy/rules/regulations they have in place are enforced.
