Irving drops the N-bomb, says Mel Gibson was pretty much right

Oddly, he didn’t appear to be drunk when he said it.

Asked Friday if he was anti-Semitic, Irving said: “No, I like to think I am not.”

But then he said: “In many respects Mel Gibson was right.”

“They (Jews) should ask themselves the question, ‘Why have they been so hated for 3,000 years that there has been pogrom after pogrom in country after country?’ and it’s the one question they seem to be very shy of,” Irving said…

He said sales from his book on World War II German Gen. Erwin Rommel enabled him to walk into a car showroom with a paper bag stuffed with cash to buy a “(racial slur) brown” Rolls-Royce.

“(Racial slur)” could be a lot of different words. It could be — but wasn’t.

He just got out of the joint in Austria, where he’d been serving a three-year sentence for Holocaust denial. Had it come a few weeks earlier he could have attended the big Jew-hate confab in Tehran, no doubt with a hail-the-conquering-hero reception to greet him.

As it is, he’ll have to content himself with a banner headline on David Duke’s website heralding his release as “the first great result of the Holocaust Conference.” No link; find it yourself.

“They (Jews) should ask themselves the question, ‘Why have they been so hated for 3,000 years that there has been pogrom after pogrom…”

I’m sure they have. Maybe they just got tired of saying “Hey, we are the chozen ones”?
Might be Irving should ask why they have been hated? mohammad was so jealous, he copied some of their history as his own.

The guy is worthless, but the fact that a person can be imprisoned for denying the holocaust is disturbing. Yes i know, given Germany’s history…. it’s still disturbing.

And the Guardian story said he could be put back in jail just for saying the “n” word. Very disturbing. Of course liberals in America would enact the same types of laws here if they could. Hopefully they won’t get the chance.

Imprisoned for dropping an N-bomb? Yikes. One can only speculate as to what kind of reception awaits such an offender.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Of all the colors he could have gotten–a brown Rolls? He should be put back in the joint for having bad taste.

CanaryinaCoalMine on December 22, 2006 at 9:06 PM

On second thought, given the anti-Israel sentiments of the political left, they probably wouldn’t imprison someone for denying the holocaust.

Scot on December 22, 2006 at 9:06 PM

They are persecuted because they are God’s chosen people from whom came the Messiah. The world (mostly) hates God therefore they hate His people.

The supernatural hatred of the Jews is a spiritual issue. Imagine ANY other people existing as a discreet people for 1900 years without a country and then returning back to their homeland to make a new nation. It’s almost as though it were prophesied to happen exactly this way.

Oh yeah… it WAS prophesied.

Mojave Mark on December 22, 2006 at 9:11 PM

I agree with Scott that however much of an a**hole Irving is, putting him in prison for three years for denying the holocaust is disturbing.

Of course, if Iranian Certified Lunatic Akmeddinnerjacket could be lured to Austria…..

Without freedom of speech how would you be able to identify the freaks.

Some schmuck dropped the n-bomb. Who gives a rat’s ass? Must be a slow news day.

Metro on December 22, 2006 at 10:17 PM

And Mr.Irving should answer this question. “What happened to EVERY group that has tried to destroy the Jews?”

They are ALL destroyed!!

Who wants to be next?!?!?

Talon on December 22, 2006 at 10:57 PM

“N-word”, “F-word”, “N-bomb”, “F-bomb”… Why are we scared of words??

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” What ever happened to that??? Was it when it became, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words might get my a$$ sued”??

If a word offends you, how can you stand to wipe your own a$$ and look at the TP to make sure you’re clean or not bleeding from your rectum or some other health related issue??

And I used “$$” instead of “ss” to make sure the poo-poo word filter didn’t block this…

MOMinuteman on December 23, 2006 at 1:54 AM

If the same laws would be applied here, at least 10% of the lefties and some of our ‘esteeemed’ leaders would be in prison, or threatened with it.

Irving is nuts and so are George Galloway and David Duke, and many others.

These stringent European laws restrict not only freedom of speech; they also hinder open and on-going discussions and drive these types into the underground, into prison and embolden them.

They should be shunned for their views. However, as is, some of the old in Europe believe what Irving does, the middle-aged don’t talk about it and the youth haven’t the slightest interest in the topic.

Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

Rommel was a stand up General who tried to kill Hitler after he learned of the atrocities of the SS (Who he had hated since their creation).

I love of pro-socialist whack-jobs always claim him over Hitler and Himmler.

Oddly enough, you never see the View ladies giving Hitler credit for 100% Gun Control…

The answer to his question is the same as “Why is America hated”.

Answer: Success breeds contempt.

We don’t necessarily discriminate. We simply exclude certain types of people.

When it is all laid out…”there are things that you hide and little things that you show”…and I can promise, with all the kind denial, there isn’t a word in the English language that every single one of us has not thought or uttered WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY WAS CLEARLY RIGHT.

If you say the “N” word, then you are a racist (which is true)…but if you deny you have ever said it or thought it…well then, you are a liar too.

seejanemom on December 23, 2006 at 11:48 AM

Irving is a nut and does a lot of damage to the historical record. There are good reasons why giant historians like John Lukacs testified against him. However, Europe is imbecilic and anemic and a hand-wringing nanny state. Indeed, how does one explain a mass of intellectuals who on one hand get all upset and fearful over a David Irving, and on the other hand kiss the asses of totalitarian ideologues (read Islamists) who are every bit as bent upon ridding the world of Jews as Hitler was? It’s insanity.

Drum on December 23, 2006 at 12:10 PM

A correction: Lukacs never “testified” against Irving. He wrote a scathing review of one of Irving’s books, and Irving in turn threatened to sue Lukacs. Lukacs is only one of many brilliant historians who saw the absurdity of Irving’s views. If you google Lukacs and Irving you will find all sorts of wicked defenses of Irving and obscene remarks about Lukacs.

Drum on December 23, 2006 at 12:25 PM

David Irving certainly is a creep with some appalling viewpoints. Yet we should ask ourselves why someone gets imprisoned in the “free” West, for voicing an opinion. We have no right to criticise others on freedom of expression (or the lack of), when we ourselves imprison people for speech transgressions. It cuts both ways. However disturbing his views, Irving should be able to voice them without having to fear arrest. And so we should be able to proclaim our disgust at the Islamic faith, religious intolerance, etc etc. If we entertain hypocrisy, how will we teach others about freedom? Granted, the USA is rather free in that regard. But some European countries are positively Stalinist in their laws, like for example Austria and Germany. It needs to change.

Some of their history is the same as M’s history. They are all Semites and all issue of Abraham.

Irving wasn’t imprisoned for voicing his opinion–he was trying to falsify history. In my opinion, there’s a difference.

If falsifying history is worthy of prison, the American public school establishment, 90% of university professors, and the whole Democratic Party, ought to be imprisoned!

And the Sane say, “Amen!”

When you revise and falsify history, you lose the truely valuable lessons it has to teach. Not a smart thing for the Species to do; but we continue to allow it to happen.

We’ve got more indoctrination than actual education going on right now, and we have had for quite a while. We’re witnessing the fruits of that ongoing indoctrination right now, worldwide. The neutering of the West. Couldn’t be happening at a worse time.

Oh, and on a much more optimistic note, a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, HA!

God bless us, every one.

techno_barbarian on December 23, 2006 at 4:24 PM

Oh, and not the whole Democratic Party should be tossed. There are lots of Sane Centrists like Orson Scott Card. He’s a Democrat I greatly respect.

Check out his just released new book “Empire”. Started reading it last night and it’s a very interesting premise, and, so far, a great read. First in a series of 3 books, and there’s a video game being developed in tandem with the books that looks awesome enough that I’m seriously thinking about getting it when it’s released. And I’m not a gamer.

I’d mention the premise of the story, except I got a ban warning a while back for positing an un-hoped-for and dis-advocated rumination that the possibility of a similar scenario might even exist.

techno_barbarian on December 23, 2006 at 4:45 PM

Irving wasn’t imprisoned for voicing his opinion–he was trying to falsify history. In my opinion, there’s a difference.

One cannot “falsify history”. History will forever remain the same, no matter what anyone says. Irving was never an official spokesman of history, and his books were not taught as curriculum in schools and universities. So how can writing a book, which is his opinion, be worthy of prison. I’m sorry but this idea is ridiculous and worthy of scorn.

MoonbatMedia on December 23, 2006 at 5:43 PM

Yes, we like Card as well. I wasn’t aware that he was a Dem. I read an essay by him (probably linked here, or Malkin, or LGF) of his the other day about empire and was most impressed. OK. All Dems except him, and maybe Leiberman, and maybe …

Drum on December 23, 2006 at 6:23 PM

Hey Drum,

If you’d like to hear an outstanding podcast of OSC, I highly recommend the one he did with Glenn Reynolds at the end of last month. Card does almost all of the talking and it’s all excellent.

Also, go to Card’s official site and check out the links to a video about the video game.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!

Right on every point, we are in trouble and our leaders vacillate in the truest of Munich 1938 style appeasement!

On the plus side, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did send us Christmas Greetings this year!

May God Bless our soldiers wherever they are as well as the IDF! Thanks to them many true peace loving peoples are free.

Thanks, techno. I think I will have to buy that book as a gift to myself tomorrow! The podcast looks good. Will listen tonight.
