Novelist: Self-immolator who wanted to kill Rumsfeld “a pretty normal well-balanced guy”

The Freepers dug this up. Barely worth a mention, but on a slow Sunday before Christmas? Gold.
Remember Malachi Ritscher, the nut who lit himself on fire to protest the war after he neglected to stab Don Rumsfeld in the heart when he had the chance? The left’s doing its best to make sure you do. Here’s the latest reminder, courtesy of novelist Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu:
I did a little research of my own. It turns out, that Ritscher was a musician and recording engineer known in the Chicago Jazz community. From what people said about him and what I read about him, he seemed like a pretty normal well-balanced guy.
Well, as well balanced as someone who incinerates himself can be. The AP story about him last month also noted that he was depressive, alcoholic, and, according to his own son, “mentally ill.” But never mind all that. What about the bit about killing Rummy? That wasn’t mentioned in the AP article. For that you have to go to the suicide note on his website, where he wrote:
I have had one previous opportunity to serve my country in a meaningful way – at 8:05 one morning in 2002 I passed Donald Rumsfeld on Delaware Avenue and I was acutely aware that slashing his throat would spare the lives of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of innocent people. I had a knife clenched in my hand, and there were no bodyguards visible; to my deep shame I hesitated, and the moment was past.
2002. Before the war in Iraq had even begun.
But maybe Okorafor-Mbachu doesn’t know that. Maybe she never saw the suicide note.
…Except she did. In fact, not only has she seen it, she includes the URL in her op-ed:
One has to search hard to locate the suicide note Ritscher embedded in his Web site, Chicago Rash Audio Potential (www.savagesound.com), a compilation of announcements, postings, photographs and artwork. From Ritscher’s suicide note: (www.savagesound.com/gallery99.htm): “I refuse to finance the mass murder of innocent civilians…What is one more life thrown away in this sad and useless national tragedy? If one death can atone for anything, in any small way, to say to the world: I apologize for what we have done to you, I am ashamed for the mayhem and turmoil caused by my country.”
So there you go. Normal and well balanced. And by left-wing standards, he was.

Yeah. Right. “I’m gonna douse my arse in gas and set myself on fire by the roadside. But I’m well balanced….”
Sure you are pal.

If Ritscher was “a pretty normal well-balanced guy”, what does Nnedi consider “unbalanced”? Oh, yeah: voting Republican.
Nevermind.

Considering the left supports people like Cindy Sheehan and michael moore
I’d say that’s right on.
Especially considering Cindy had some … thoughts on murdering elected officials herself…

Poor moonbat. If only he’d remembered to wear his tinfoil hat shiny side out that day, he might still be alive to spew insane leftist drivel.
Did anyone else notice that “Chicago Rash Audio Potential” = C.R.A.P.? Heh.

“Moderate liberals” is about to become a catch-phrase just like “moderate Muslims,” I’d bet.
Like “Where are all the moderate liberals?”

I looked at a bunch of stuff on his website. He was a pretty sad individual. His son wanted nothing to do with him. He had no one. He went to Jazz shows and made recordings. Some of the recordings were released as records.
He grew hot peppers in 5 gallon buckets on the roof of his building. And he took lots of pictures of things that caught his eye, some were just textures of a particular wall. He actually had an artist’s eye to go with his musician’s ear. He was clearly very bright, though it only seemed to make him more aware that his life was a disappointment.
He believed in God, though I don’t get the impression he attended church very often. If you look at the pieces of this guy’s life, it’s pretty hard not to feel sorry for him. He’s not a figure to be mocked (or idolized as some on the left are doing).
It’s sad that the community of people he associated with — the Bush bashers and protesters — gave him something he felt was worth dying for but couldn’t offer him anything worth living for.

Merovign,
Damn. Do you have any idea how much blowing lasagna out of your nose hurts?
Lets just say it was not very fun.

Well, a regular nutcase. What else can you say?

All the way around, just sad. Even though he did what he did, he impacted lives around him – let’s hope that positive lessons are gained and not negative ones.
That just breeds more of the same.

Maybe it’s time that Muslim Rage Boy got a brother: Lefty Rage Boy.

Not to be a prick, but what exactly was the positive lesson that he left behind? Don’t be a tool?
