Mark Warner thinking of getting back in the race?

posted at 8:48 pm on December 17, 2006 by Allahpundit

All kinds of rumors floating around. Bad news for Hillary, if so. Warner’s the only serious rival she has as the centrist alternative to Obama and John “Great Society” Edwards. Although if he comes back in and runs to her right, it makes her look a bit more liberal by comparison. That’ll help her in the primaries, not so much in the general election.

His big, and really only, problem is name recognition. If he can get his Q score up, he’d be serious trouble. In fact, a Warner/Obama ticket would probably be the most threatening one we could face. It’d have the same advantages as an Edwards/Obama ticket — looks, youth, racial and regional diversity — with the added advantage of a centrist at the top to balance out the big O’s hard left voting record. Plus, aside from the “scandal” over Obama’s land deal, which isn’t going anywhere, neither one of them has a single significant knock against them.

Yet.

Too early to worry, but if this does start to come together — worry.

The key to this is the new re arraigning of the Calender for Causcuses and Primaries. If the dems seceeded and front load Big states that would favor a more liberal candidate.

Super Tuesday and New Hampshire would favor a more moderate candidate.

The political season has always been about the horserace between the two main candidate. So the key is to watch who emerges as the top two.

California I think is the key here if they do top load it. Who would California go for Obama or Hilary ? If its super Tuesday Id say Warner would beat hilary but Oddly Obama would do well because of the large democratic black vote in the South I think would spilt between Obama and Hilary with Warner geting most of the white vote. (sorry but that is how Southern Democratic party politics breaks down. Its always along racial lines)

The one good thing about obama doing well now is we will start to see Obama Fatigue. There is such a thing as too much exposure question is are people paying attention right now ?

Wasn’t Warner a big hit with the Kos Kidz?

JammieWearingFool on December 17, 2006 at 9:53 PM

Let me guess: This “Mark Warner” person is another tall, well-coiffed, bright-smiling, empty suit with big plans to make “a better society” with just $1,000 or $2,000 more of my annual income–just $2,000 or $3,000, promise!–and a few more years spent adding regulations to the Federal Register at 80-100,000 pages per year. His war plans don’t even amount to a “defense plan,” I’m sure: He wants to “get tough” with Republicans. Muslims, China, Russia? Not so much.

If a Democrat is elected President, it won’t be so much because of the precise details of his proposed, pillow-soft tyranny. It’ll be because this present President spent seven years trying, and failing, to reform what he could have nuked in the seven days he had everyone behind him. Wake me up when a candidate emerges, from either party, with claws and teeth.

The key for Mark Warner is not visiting national parks in his state ;-)

Allah, you’re such a pessimist. Warner’s not freakin’ superman. I guarantee he’s got dirty linen.

Besides, Giuliani has this thing locked up.

I’m sorry, what world were you living in where Shrillary is not seen as an Abortion Loving, sodomite supporting, probable rug muncher?

I still think Obama is her biggest drag on support right now. Nothing really to prove it – just my opinion based on (typically) unreliable media hype and the fact the MSM isn’t really promoting anyone else right now.

You’re in for a long nap Kralizec.

Eh. Hilary has the war chest and her baggage is only a problem in the general election. She’ll pull away in the primaries there her baggage, Clenis’ legacy, is an asset. Primary voters will remember it as the good ol’ days.

Acknowledged, Griz. I also acknowledge that when he arises, EK THS THALASSHS, as it were, we’d better have the leash ready.

Struggle to keep your priorities straight, Soothsayer. My oracular vision has revealed that there are queers stronger, deeper, and more wickedly rightwing than we traditionalists will ever be. We are fortunate if they are at all on our side; for without family, they have nothing better to do than dwell on politics, and whatever transcends and governs politics, day and night. We cannot make them love us, but we do well to avoid making them hate us.

Sootmeister, that was hilarious. But I think the wicked witch of the East has done a remarkable job of moving toward the center in the eyes of the electorate. She is, as AP suggests, well to the right of Obama’s Suit.

It’s all a fraud, of course, but right now, if I had to pick one of these two as C-in-C (omg), it’d be the carpet-muncher.

Mrs. Clinton is just smart enough to make sure that she appears to the right of her party opponents. Scratch the surface and she is a dyed-in-the-wool socialist. She wants to take money from you and I so that the government can help everyone. She was first among the Clintons in 1993 to say that our current military was pointless in a post-cold-war world, and was twice the size it needed to be. In spite of her careful positioning as hawkish, she is still insanely anti-military. She would diminish our military even more than her husband did.

Any appearance of her as being to the right of anyone but Marx is just that, appearance. Do not trust Mrs. Clinton.

At this point this is my position:

Warner? I have no real problem with him, and he seems like he was a solid governor. so he’s got experience, he seems legit on guns, and he knows the DC regional politics. I’d vote for him before I voted for McCain.

Giuliani: I like him, he has an excellent managerial/executive style, and he has an excellent mix of intelligence/diplomacy and internal management. A Perfict mix of Domestic and Foreign-relations president.

McCain: I like him but would hate to vote for him. His campaign finance reform laws only made the Uber Rich like Soros and Bezos more powerful, and put power into the hands of the crazies at moveon. Not to mention that he’s not as Pro-Gun as I would like.

Hillary… My first response is “IN the name of all that I hold Dear NOOOOOO.” On the other hand from what I’ve read from Karl Rove’s experiences she seems like a twisted manipulative bi… Senator. And sometimes people like that are impressive in their vindictiveness and efficacy against their enemies. The biggest problem I have is wondering whether HER enemies are OUR enemies… or if non-uber-liberals are her enemies. I would consider stockpiling food, medical supplies, and ammunition if she were elected.

Obama: poser? stuffed suit? lacking of substance? take your pick. I hear he’s quick the platitudes… that’s really all you need to be president of the most powerful nation on earth.

You got it Kralizec. This is the same John Warner who got the largest tax increase in the history of Virginia passed soon after he became Govenor. He got it enacted by the General Assembly by saying the state would be bankrupt if it didn’t pass the increase. He had the liberal press in Virginia pounding out that message every day. The bottom line is that after he got the increase the state had a billion dollar surplus shortly thereafter. The state was not going bankrupt in the first place. Did they decrease the taxes after the surplus? NO!!!! You are right Kralizec, this man is another phony empty suit.
