Audio: Bill Handel goes berserk on air

posted at 12:35 pm on December 17, 2006 by Allahpundit

Breitbart put this on YouTube, but if it was linked at Drudge, I missed it. Handel hosts a popular morning show on KFI in LA; Jamie White hosts a show during the same time period for KYSR. Both stations are located in the same building. Apparently Handel’s kids have a habit of roaming around the premises and got in White’s way, and she said something to them. Word got back to Handel, who decided to pay her a little visit during a commercial break in his own show.

The result? Magic.

Was that Bill Handel or Al Frankhen, or ever how the hell he spells his last name………..

ritethinker on December 17, 2006 at 12:42 PM

Wow.

Handel is off-the-wall, and he loves overacting a bit, but he’s a legal expert, and normally rational. My first impression was, what on earth did that woman say to his kids to set him off like that? He threatened her physically, and he himself knows the trouble that can bring.

My money says that he won’t be offering an apology for his behavior. When he believes something strongly, it’s a fait accompli, he won’t back off.

Freelancer on December 17, 2006 at 12:44 PM

I listen to the station often. On the way in to work it’s Handel time and on the way home, John and Ken. Never boring because they don’t discriminate; they insult everyone equally, mostly all deserving what they get, from all political parties or spectrums.

Handel is interesting, smart and ‘nuts’ quite often and his kids do way too many (snooty) commercials and are spoiled, by many accounts. Handel thinks he’s a radio-god and inspires the same in his twins.

One could argue that it’s ok, but it might not be eveyone’s cup of tea to have two ‘in your face’ brats around at work.

Entelechy on December 17, 2006 at 12:52 PM

personally if someone’s kids came into my work, and their parents weren’t there I would escort them to the front desk. Her telling a kid to get out of the radio room while they’re on the air doesn’t sound rediculous to me, but then you really don’t know what she said.

Why in the WORLD would someone let their kids run around unsupervised at WORK? Most places would fire a guy for that.

One Angry Christian on December 17, 2006 at 1:04 PM

If he’s not going to watch them or correct them someone has to.

SouthernGent on December 17, 2006 at 1:06 PM

If he lets his kids run around work, (too cheap to pay for day care or a sitter) he’s imposing on everyone else to babysit them for him. They wander in where they didn’t belong, evidently as usual, this time they got a sharp correction, and went mewling back to Daddy. He (all about me and what I want) then responds like an an irate, self-righteous woman. He’s completely self-centered and he’s passing the bad habits on to his spawn, but it’s everyone else’s fault. Real men teach their kids boundries, “Yes ma’am, no Sir” and other such wonderful trappings of civilized society, like knowing when to be quiet and keeping your little hands off the studio dials.

naliaka on December 17, 2006 at 1:18 PM

Who pays the FCC fine?

As far as I understand, it’s the FCC licensee that is responsible for on air content. Howard Stern never got fined, it was his broadcaster. Handel’s rant at a competing station might, ironically might cost that station a fine.

rokemronnie on December 17, 2006 at 1:21 PM

If they were interfering with her work, ho cares what she said to them? Handel and his brats owe an apology to her. And Handel is no legal expert. Handel made a name for himself in fertility law when it was new. Any other area of law he espouses on I cringe.

EF on December 17, 2006 at 1:32 PM

rokemronnie on December 17, 2006 at 1:21 PM

Good reminder, they weren’t in his own station were they? How about trespassing, too? His kids, himself. He let his kids wander unsupervised through an entire building that houses numerous other businesses? Hmmm. Restraining orders anyone?

naliaka on December 17, 2006 at 1:36 PM

STaged? Publicity stunt? Otherwise there is probably some history between them. No clue who these people are so sorry if that’s obvious ;)

I’m still leaning towards staged, if he’s a broadcaster he knew the mike was live when he did that.

Dash on December 17, 2006 at 1:38 PM

I feel bad when my children get a little rowdy at church. I can’t imagine taking them to a radio studio.

I’d like to know, though, what it was she was supposed to have said to them…

Joe on December 17, 2006 at 1:39 PM

I think the kid-thing was just a catalyst for his “true” feelings towards this other radio host.

Kinda like the adult beverages loosened Mel up enough to show how he truly feels about the JOOOOOS!

Neo on December 17, 2006 at 1:50 PM

BTW, that morning radio show with Jamie White is the one that Danny Bonaduce (mentioned on another thread) was on for several years.

MattSkosh on December 17, 2006 at 1:50 PM

How old are these kids?

bbz123 on December 17, 2006 at 1:53 PM

Unless she propositioned them or hit them, there is no call for him to have gone off like that. Her producer should have beat the crap out of him in front of his two stupid little brats.

austinnelly on December 17, 2006 at 1:55 PM

How old are these kids?

bbz123 on December 17, 2006 at 1:53 PM

Eleven

Entelechy on December 17, 2006 at 2:20 PM

I hate these types who get mad if you say something to their out of control kids. It’s quite telling that he went off like that. If they are eleven, they should know better. If it’s a 3-5 y/o, well that’s still no excuse for the way he acted. I guess the fine example he sets for his kids is now on the airways for everyone to hear. What a jerk.

Catie96706 on December 17, 2006 at 2:25 PM

Yet another example of a parent who can’t be bothered to watch his kids…and then gets upset at anyone else who has to discipline them. bbz123 has a point…how old are these kids (and how many?) and why are they at a radio station wandering around?

Apparently it’s not the first time they went wandering…

Let the expletives fly! On air, no less…

Ugh, this must be a slow news day…but the Jets are way ahead as I type (of course, this means nothing…)

JetBoy on December 17, 2006 at 2:26 PM

I’m WAY too important to mind my own children. He’s angry because his poor parenting skills are on display for all to see.

Mojave Mark on December 17, 2006 at 2:30 PM

The guy’s got a future in the NBA.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on December 17, 2006 at 2:42 PM

The guy’s got a future in the NBA.

I love Bill Handel. I’m waiting to see what she said to his kids. This should be entertaining.

Theworldisnotenough on December 17, 2006 at 2:46 PM

Opps HAHA at the part I quoted above.

Theworldisnotenough on December 17, 2006 at 2:46 PM

What’s the worse that she could of said to them? Even if it was fk off you little monsters, they were interfereing with her business and Handel was not watching his own kids.

I got tired of Handel years ago. He works all the time, is always hustling one product or another, talking about paying 1k for concert tickets, or about being in therapy his entire natural born life. The man is a walking neurosis.

EF on December 17, 2006 at 2:55 PM

Sounds like this jackass should be playing for the NBA! HA!

robblefarian on December 17, 2006 at 3:35 PM

What a self-righteous, incompetent, failed parent arsehole.

Somebody should have beaten him to a pulp, then let the air out of the wheels on his wheelchair.

G-d but I HATE pricks like that.

Misha I on December 17, 2006 at 3:59 PM

BILL HANDEL IS AN IDIOT AND A MORON WHO HAS NO RESPECT FOR ANYTHING DECENT.He supports sodomites, abortion, and everything else that’s wrong with this country. His daughters are obnoxious little twits which is no surprise seeing as they’re his. He pimps them out to his advertisers for voice overs (radio spots) and they manage to sound like two pampered buttholes while eliciting donations to a childrens charity!

Soothsayer on December 17, 2006 at 4:12 PM

Turmoil at the station – read the dialog in the frame - it sheds a bit a ‘light’ on how this came about…

Entelechy on December 17, 2006 at 4:30 PM

I wish these radio hosts were required to a truth in advertising standard, i.e., admit that their personal endorsement is based on the fact that one, the advertiser has bought ad time, and two, that the host was provided with the product/service at no cost.

EF on December 17, 2006 at 4:41 PM

Man, I didn’t hear John and Ken on Friday but I’ll be sure to check the podcasts on Monday to see if they ripped into him. Hopefully the KFI policy on this will be for everyone to mock Handel, as they often do anyway.

Alex K on December 17, 2006 at 4:56 PM

It all depends if they are well mannered or out of control house apes.

retired on December 17, 2006 at 5:10 PM

Jamie White ought to do a show inviting Nanny 911 as a guest. Heck, she doesn’t even need to cover this incident but they could cover what happens when Handel gets wind of it that day.

And do remember to have make a vid, Jamie. Bwahahaha.

Dusty on December 17, 2006 at 6:04 PM

I think it’s pretty obvious that Billy Boy heard a story from his spoiled girls, then went flying on a rage LIVE ON AIR under the assumption that 11-year olds NEVER make up stories to get someone they don’t like in trouble.

Besides, rushing into someone’s studio during a show like that any flying off the handle is just grossly unprofessional NO MATTER WHAT Jamie White said to the kids.

I can’t understand why some people are employed, if they have impulse control problems like that, not to mention any kind of high-paying or public interaction job.

Merovign on December 17, 2006 at 6:06 PM

Then right after Handel cools off, White can seque to her next segment …

“Dr. Phil, so good to have you on today!”

Dusty on December 17, 2006 at 6:08 PM

Besides, rushing into someone’s studio during a show like that any flying off the handle is just grossly unprofessional NO MATTER WHAT Jamie White said to the kids.

Exactly, and she didn’t say anything on air either when chastising them. She had the manners, apparently, to do it off air.

This is like Rosie bullying a six year old, instead of teaching her own how to handle conflict.

CrimsonFisted on December 17, 2006 at 6:16 PM

I see some irony in a woman who makes a career out of talking about the details of her sex life on air getting irritated at ill-mannered children.

Still, Handel lost it.

John on December 17, 2006 at 6:38 PM

My money says that he won’t be offering an apology for his behavior. When he believes something strongly, it’s a fait accompli, he won’t back off.

No, he apologized for dissing Islam once. That was the day I quit listening to his show on Sundays after church “Handel on the Law”

Personally, he would regret getting in my face like that, but hey that’s just me. You can’t sue if you can’t wake up from the coma….

Tim Burton on December 17, 2006 at 7:15 PM

Handel is tool. I listen to KFI sometimes and he always comes off like a asshole. (Hint: Bill, keep your stupid kids out of other’s work place. It’s called personal responsibility, ass-clown)

x95b10 on December 17, 2006 at 10:15 PM

I think that little Billy needs a time out in the “think it over chair”.

RalphyBoy on December 18, 2006 at 1:14 AM

This is important? Never heard of either person.

Mr Paul on December 18, 2006 at 8:32 AM

Largest radio station in LA. Anyway, I’ve got his show on now and he is absent and the guest host and his regulars have not mentioned the “incident.” Their competing station has joked about it. Sort of telling that his underlings don’t have the cojones to metion it.

EF on December 18, 2006 at 9:13 AM

It appears Handel has been suspended for a week and issued a half-ass apology.

EF on December 18, 2006 at 10:12 AM

LA radio magic – this from grown-ups

Entelechy on December 18, 2006 at 3:28 PM

They play “Handle On the Law” here on our local talkradio station, WPTF, and I’ve always found him entertaining because he’s a loon. But after this, I won’t be listening anymore…and will be letting my local know it. (Whether it makes any diff or not.)

This guy is a rude irresponsible jackass…

tickleddragon on December 18, 2006 at 5:13 PM

His apology is so lame: “I want to apologize to Jamie and her team for my behavior and how I handled the unfortunate incident this morning. It was simply a reaction of a dad who was protecting his children. I lost my temper, I lost my cool.”

It assumes that his children needed protecting, which is false.
He doesn’t admit that he was the one to over react.
He doesn’t admit that his kids were misbehaving.
