Funny you should ask. On the actual magazine cover, the video screen is reflective, so that you can see yourself while reading that it’s YOU.

Sometimes everything means nothing. Sometimes everybody means nobody. As in “everybody is special”, which dilutes special to the point of nobody being special. But of course Time has to say something, even when it has nothing to say.

There is nothing that totally invalidates the worth of any award if the specialness of the award is neutralized. It's like a college degree. Imagine you have a B.S. in Physics. You're pretty cool, right? Well, imagine if everyone, upon completing 3rd grade math, gets a B.S. in Physics. People would say, "You have a B.S. in Physics? Yeah, so do I, pal!" And they'd mean it!

I thought Time’s criteria for Person of the Year was the person who was in the news the most–literally the most stories, etc. If that’s the case, then I’d bet it was George W. Bush again, and they just couldn’t bring themselves to put him on the cover again (even if most of the stories about him this year were negative ones).

The article is written so poorly – I wanted to weep. They could have looked beyond YouTube for stupid, offensive and misspelled comments too.

The essence of their nomination, before any of us get carried away with ‘pride’, is this:

This is an opportunity to build a new kind of international understanding, not politician to politician, great man to great man, but citizen to citizen, person to person.

Translation:

This is an opportunity to build a new kind of global kumbaya, not Messrs Blair to Bush, Ahmadinejad to Chavez, but world-citizen to world-citizen, rabble to rabble.
