Pilots are indignant again...

KeaponLaffin on December 17, 2006 at 10:48 AM

I lived in one and now work in the field. Some examples:

- long waiting times, even for cancer or heart cases; many Canadians go to the U.S.
- if over 65, or 70 no more pacemakers or the likes (you've lived long enough)
- long waiting lines for the simplest of checkups or treatment
- live teeth-fillings and nerve extractions. I lived through both. During the latter I thought they'd pulled my brain out (heh, some of you might think 'now we finally know':)
- snooty doctors refuse 2nd opinions
- modern equipment or procedures not available or not covered
- doctors get paid a fixed fee for each visit - thus, they encourage patients to check in every so often, just to say 'hi' so they get paid (family member did this for 12 years in Vancouver, using dr. outing as a social event).
- good doctors and specialists have left for the U.S. due to low pay
- systems are financially broken and the people are sick of the high taxes
- local nurses have fled or retired - replacements often don't speak the patients' languages
- etc. etc. etc.

Could write you a booklet on many more examples...

You're right - while it doesn't qualify him to be President of the US, <em>it <strong>does</strong></em>, <em>however</em>, qualify him to be <strong>Mayor of New Orleans</strong>!

Watch out - Nagin's got competition in the City!

Ummm...I may not be the political genius the rest of yall are ;)
But have the Dems ever once said how they're going to pay for universal healthcare?
Free isn't free, ya know.
I'm one of those X-Million Americans without health care, but I ain't whining about it. I'll get health insurance when I can afford it, in the mean time I'll pay that hospital bill. Luckily, I tend to be healthy ;)
Except for that time I DID have insurance, and still had to shell out a few hundred extra bucks and wait 3 weeks for something as simple as slicing open a boil.(Sorry, gross)
So I agree we need health care reform, HMO's suck, but which system of universal health care are we going to use?

Crushing taxes to pay for it like in Canada? Along with the practically no money for research.
Crushing taxes and a crappy system like they have in the UK? They still do good research, but firing doctors and nurses by the thousands while keeping upper management never works.
Or slightly less crushing taxes and a system where you have to wait for months just to get a tooth pulled like they have in Australia?

Just a few examples. But, has anyone seen a socialist health care system that actually works?

I'm all for 'if yer dying, bleeding, or have a fractured skull, we'll fix ya up' style of free healthcare.
But I'm not willing to pay for some whiny little girl who needs daily therapy and a few grand a month worth of antidepressants.
And we all know 'universal healthcare' is coming to that.

gmcjetpilot, or shall I call you John? Just because Edwards earned lots of money from the misfortune of others does not qualify him to be President of the USA. There is something wrong when a person claims to wish to erradicate poverty, yet lives at a higher standard than most Americans can even dream about. So, John, don't you have a flight to Katrina Ground Zero to catch? Your peasants await your arrival.

gmcjetpilot, this is a family website, so I'm afraid that you two really should get a room if you want to continue to perform "oral pleasure" upon John Edwards. But personally I think you make a cute couple.

Really pulling out all the stops calling him good looking, rich and that he bought a large piece of land in NC and built a big house. How un-american of John Edwards. How dare he be successful and have money. You all sound scared or jealous. I guess Rice is out, Laura Bush says she is an old spinster with no faimly and there for can't or wont run. Ouch! I think Laura is jealous of the office wife.

Lawyer, what class action lawsuit did Edwards participate in? I don't think he has any thing to apologize for.

He represented families and children, and specialized in corporate negligence and medical malpractice claims. Edwards' first important case was a 1984 medical malpractice lawsuit. His client who suffered permanent brain and nerve damage after a doctor prescribed a drug overdose. In 1985, Edwards obtained a large settlement in a cerebral palsy case for medical malpractice during childbirth. This established the NC precedent of insuring and determining a patient understands the risks.

How could he, how dare he win and change medical care for the better.

The biggest case of his legal career was a 1997 product liability lawsuit against Sta-Rite, the manufacturer of a defective pool drain cover. The case involved a Cary, North Carolina girl, Valerie Lakey, who was disemboweled by the suction power of the pool drain pump when she sat on an open pool drain. Edwards spoke to the jury for an hour and a half without referring to notes. WOW, Bush could do that......uhaa, humm, well, yea he could.

Mark Dayton, editor of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, later call it "the most impressive legal performance I have ever seen." For their part in this case, Edwards and law partner David Kirby earned the Association of Trial Lawyers of America's national award for public service.

Another travesty and disgrace of John Edwards winning lawsuits. How can we spin this so he can't ever be elected. May be we can get the swift boat guys onboard, yea. We can't have a democrat president! We need to change the constitution so George W Bush can run for a third term. Bush #43, a great president? No, I say the greatest president ever. We don't need eloquent, intelligent, good looking successful people in the white house, especially a Demon-rat (sorry I'm new, I'm not sure what the popular slang to use when slandering Democrats.) Republicans rule and have all the good ideas. Heck with two party system and check and balances, when you have the Republicans. Things could not be better. Why change. Stay the course, full steam ahead.

<blockquote>In its place: a bold list of policies and solutions Edwards believes will help build “One America."</blockquote>

Yes, then we're all poor and manipulated 'white sheep'.

"Two Americas" was a fabrication and "One America" is a utopian, elitist nightmare, in which the rich Edwardses pretend to be poor and the poor are fooled to believe that they're no longer so.

I agree with Valiant. This is a visual society and one has to admit that he is handsome. He is a charmer like Clinton too.

He is just another rich boy trying to prove to the world that he cares about the poor.

But, I think if he could get past Hillary, he could win.

lorien1973</blockquote>Back during the '04 campaign, I summed up the Stem Cell hysteria <a href="http://home.kc.rr.com/mharder/kerrysave.jpg" rel="nofollow">thusly</a>

Bwahahahahaha!!!!! Only in the Demaloon Party can they not only allow someone like Edwards to run again, but he is a front runner in their straw polls.

Edwards senate attendence record was so poor that even the really liberal North Carolina papers were calling him Senator Gone. He had no shot of retaining his seat, so what did he do? He ran for pres, and we know the result.

Now he wants to do it again? Un-f'ing-believable. Or not, considering he is a democrat.

I think "My Little Pony" came from Laura Ingraham, as well.

The preening, narcissistic wimp makes me want to throw up.

Mirror, mirror on the wall....

Clearly, he has sugar in his tank.

Eh. Can Democrats really run on socialized medicine with our neighbor to the North providing such crappy care of anything more serious than the common cold?

Can they really run on good looks and charisma? That will not supplant their platform. The American people I think will look long and hard at their agenda considering that a Democratic presidency would represent the same dominance that the Republicans had. The unabashed failure of Republicans even though they had the majority, has left Americans leary of one party rule. Obama/Edwards WILL have to handle the tough questions about their plans once in office. "We have a plan" just won't be enough. In open debate socialized medicine is a loser. Plus if you google Bush medicare plan AARP was gushing all over it. A big plus for the Rebpublican candidate if he or she wanted to use this loyalty. The Republicans can easily demonstrate how socialised medicine will be good for <strike>illegals</strike> would be Americans but bad for the baby boomers and bad for their sons and daughters. Considering <a href="http://www.doaskdotell.com/controv/filial.htm" rel="nofollow">filial laws</a> are likely to be enforced as babyboomers retire. Who really wants to have to pay out of pocket to reimburse Medicaid AND get screwed with higher taxes to pay for universal healthcare? No one.
