Underperformin’ Norman Mineta awarded Medal of Freedom

posted at 12:55 pm on December 15, 2006 by Allahpundit

Secretary of Transportation during the biggest failure of airline security in American history, he hung on for five more years and did all he could to place political correctness above safety.

Today Bush gave him a medal. The same one given to Iraq masterminds Paul Bremer and George Tenet, in fact.

When does Michael Brown get his?

Blowback

Right after Janet Reno.

WTF???

MarineDad on December 15, 2006 at 1:00 PM

A sad day. So many people perform difficult jobs with valor and integrity, and earn no reward for their courage. Yet this oxygen-thief gets a top national award for what, exactly? I’m curious, but don’t think I could stomach reading the citation that goes with the hardware.

When does Osama Bin Laden get his?

CrazyFool on December 15, 2006 at 1:08 PM

The New Tone strikes again.

Could we get all of these losers to stand in front of the White House and throw their lies, oops I mean medals, over the fence ,in the manner of Jean Cay Reeh?

bbz123 on December 15, 2006 at 1:20 PM

So the Medal of Freedom is now officially both worthless and meaningless. Got it. They should start making them out of paper–at least then it would be useful after you took a Mineta.

ReubenJCogburn on December 15, 2006 at 1:26 PM

Word has it Brown gets his next Thrusday…hahahaha…

StoutRepublican on December 15, 2006 at 1:28 PM

Great job, Normie!

JammieWearingFool on December 15, 2006 at 1:40 PM

Clnton also gave them out like candy to very questionable figures. You would think things would have changed with a Republican administration. The neocons coronated Bush in 2000 much like empty-suit Obama is being treated by Dems today. Conservatives need to find real candidates in the future

I question the timing

BigOrangeAxe on December 15, 2006 at 1:57 PM

May as well throw in a Nobel Peace Prize.

When does Michael Brown get his?

Pelosi is far ahead of the pack to receive hers.

shooter on December 15, 2006 at 2:21 PM

Don’t you have to be incompetent AND hate America’s sovereignty?

Not so sure about ‘brownie’, but Peloser sure fits …maybe Waffles can throw another medal over the white house fence, whether it’s his or not.

shooter on December 15, 2006 at 2:27 PM

Brown would be the only one of the 4 who deserved it. Are you still thinking Brown did a bad job as head of FEMA or something?

Kevin M on December 15, 2006 at 2:27 PM

Yet we still have Bush lovers. I’m actually shocked his approval rating is above 3%. The man is a complete moron.

Gregor on December 15, 2006 at 2:35 PM

Who cares anymore. All of these awards are nothing more than a bunch of people blowing smoke up each other’s 4th point of contact. Why anyone even covers them is beyone me!

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on December 15, 2006 at 3:27 PM

All of these awards are nothing more than a bunch of people blowing smoke up each other’s 4th point of contact.

Careful how you talk about the liberal’s favorite combination:

“Blowing smoke” and “4th point of contact.”

You’re going to cause them uncontrollable erotic fantasies.

Gregor on December 15, 2006 at 3:30 PM

Bush has completely ruined the Medal of Freedom. It’s sad really.

JaHerer22 on December 15, 2006 at 4:20 PM

why did anyone even bring this up, let that puke just get old and die… and forget abou thim,,, I am tired of sticking up for Bush though…. it mkaes me sick of jumping ship, but I grow very very tired and weary of sticking up for him while he does the dumbest things..

Maybe it’s time conservatives give liberals just a little bit of credit for realizing Bush’s ineptness from the beginning. Sure, our criticism has often been off base or even just silly, but we had the right idea. I promise it won’t hurt to say it…

JaHerer22 on December 15, 2006 at 4:46 PM

You don’t deserve any credit since your criticism wasn’t based on any facts, but rather a deep hate caused from losing an election. Criticisms such about being like Hitler, orchestrating 9/11, creating the Patriot Act to implement a police state … are pure retardation.

Furthermore … the criticism he deserves is for not being conservative. Liberals ought to be worshipping the man.

You didn’t “realize” anything and you would have criticized the man no matter what he did.

Gregor on December 15, 2006 at 5:07 PM

He doesn’t deserve credit, but it still kind of hurt. My second vote for Dubya came after much consternation.

RW Wacko on December 15, 2006 at 5:15 PM

I hate the fact that I voted for this man twice and even more embarrased that I was so completely fooled, but the alternative was far worse each time.

I find it hard to imagine a legitimate qualification for any liberal to brag based on who they feel to be more qualified.

Gregor on December 15, 2006 at 5:07 PM

That — truly — is the story here, Greg. He is a complete nitwit in the exact opposite sense that Democrats think he is.

This is the gauge that journalists use to pretend that they are doing their job: “duh…the moonbats hate me, and the wingnuts hate me…I must have gotten it right!”

Jaibones on December 15, 2006 at 7:14 PM

Is Mineta getting his medal from Bush or Osama?

Tantor on December 16, 2006 at 3:13 AM

What a STUPID remark from a STUPID liberal.

I wouldn’t scoff at either the medal or the recipients. Natan Sharansky was awarded his at the same ceremony. If you don’t know who he is, or how brave he was as a prisoner in the Soviet Gulag, then maybe you should just STFU rather than embarrass yourself.
