Thanks much to Ken Noland of DVIDS, the public affair arm of the Third Army and Centcom, for pointing us to this. Many of you will know her name from her correspondence with Patterico in late November about the airstrike-that-wasn’t in Ramadi. Two weeks later, on December 6th, she was killed by an IED along with Army specialist Vincent Pomante and Capt. Travis Patriquin, whose name should also be familiar. Michael Fumento knew her and Patriquin and wrote about them, memorably, here.
McClung’s father has since left a few comments at Patterico’s site. I’ll leave you with this:
We know that Megan died doing just what she wanted to do and we supported her all the way. It is a shame that I cannot share all of the tributes with each of you, but if I could, you would realize very quickly what a wonderful person Megan was. Her credo as a PAO was: “Be Bold, Be Brief, Be Gone!” She lived her credo to the end.
The highest-ranking female officer killed in Iraq. Rest in peace.

Rest in Peace. The people in this tribute who spoke for her did a great job in conveying the type of person she must have been. Well done.
Very sad to lose her.

Requiescat in pace, ma’am.
And when she gets to Heaven
To St. Peter will she tell
“One more Marine reporting, sir,
I’ve served my time in Hell!”

This video just pushed Kleenex stock up . Probably someone I would have worked with after she did her tour. I am a civilian who is honored to be working with a lot of people like her.

There is a tradition in the Corps, of which my (former-Marine husband is very proud, that Marines stand guard at the gates of Heaven.
Major McClung, reporting for duty. Semper Fidelis.

Yet every time the debt is paid the merchants raise the fee”
Time to rest Warriors. We thank you!

While I watched this video of this beautiful young woman and the men who lost their lives with her…I’m sorry; I couldn’t help but think of John Kerry and his vile remarks. People, such as these three make me so proud and make the cause all that more important.
Never quit. The goal and purpose are good. Please, America, don’t let their sacrifices to have been in vain.

So they say….
“If the Army and the Navy Ever gaze on Heaven’s scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.” Marine Corps Hymn
Blessed be her memory.

What a great young lady. What a magnificent Warrior. How awesome were the two young Men who died with her?
One thing stands out in this video. The United States Marine Corps and the Armed Forces are full of professionals, outstanding Warriors, and filled with the diversity of America. Every hair color, every race, every gender, and every walk of Life was shown. There isn’t a prejudiced bone alive in the Armed Forces today that I have ever come across. A Warrior is treated as a Warrior and based on their performance in their profession.
MAJ McClung, CPT Patriquin and SPC Pomante are truly some of the finest Americans ever offered on the field of battle. We would do well to live our lives to be worthy of their sacrifice. And the Iraqi people owe their families’ a huge debt, which they can never repay. And we will never ask them to do so either. But it is a Debt of Honor owed, nonetheless.
God bless Maj McClung, CPT Patriquin, and SPC Pomante.
