Jamilgate: Michelle heading to Baghdad? Update: Flopping Aces smells a set up
posted at 8:22 am on December 14, 2006 by Allahpundit
Man, Eason Jordan hit the ground running, didn’t he?
I don’t know if he meant his offer sincerely or if it was a gambit to expose her as a keyboard warrior unwilling to take the risks she expects from the AP.
If so, he forgot to factor in one thing.
Update: If you don’t know who Eason Jordan is, Captain Ed’s got a useful primer. He and righty bloggers go waaay back.
Update: Up goes the ante: Bob Owens says Michael Yon may get in on this action, too.
Update: Curt thinks this could be a scam designed to humiliate the blogosphere. I’m skeptical, but his point about Jordan’s ethics is well taken.
I worry, as others have, that this may be a set-up of some kind. Think about it. Eason Jordon should have a easy time of finding Jamil Hussein since the AP has said they have been talked to him for over two years. I have blogged many times that there may indeed be a man named Jamil Hussein but my argument has always been he is a fraud. It has already been confirmed that he is NOT employed by the Iraqi government so why would we go skipping around Iraq in search of someone the AP could supposedly produce in a heartbeat?
Picture this, we are tooling around Baghdad and then Eason say’s “AH-HA!” There he is. Jamil produces a fake police ID badge and then asks us to comment. When we say that we would like him to come with us to the Ministry of Interior and have the MoI verify he is indeed a employee Mr. Jordan would spin it as “big time journalist (Michelle obviously, not me) refusing to accept proof that Jamil is real.” His story would be “Jamil found” and thats how it will be filed across the land.

Wow, the tension is mounting!
vcferlita on December 14, 2006 at 8:28 AM
Typical liberal crap. Change the subject, blame Michelle because the AP will not bring forth the truth. Jordan is as irrelevant as always. Can not change the spots.
Wade on December 14, 2006 at 8:41 AM
Michelle Malkin blogging from Iraq on Eason Jordan’s tab. I can’t wait!
Bugler on December 14, 2006 at 8:48 AM
GO MICHELLE! This would be fantastic! Not only would the Troops love to see one of their stalwart cheerleaders but adding Curt to the proposed expedition would be AWESOME!
I dont believe anything that comes from Eason Jordan so I am skeptical this is a real offer, but if it is..JAMILGATE will be blown wide open and the disingenuous reporting from Iraq gets exposed! YAY!
labwrs on December 14, 2006 at 8:48 AM
Color me skeptical, but it seems as if Jordan is hitching his fading star to a real rising media star–Michelle.
If he thinks she’s going to roll over, boy, does he have another thing coming. At least he’s reading one of the top bloggers on the planet.
JammieWearingFool on December 14, 2006 at 8:50 AM
So, Hot Air in Iraq???
Esthier on December 14, 2006 at 8:53 AM
Eason’s even got Barney Frank’s bootprint on his a*s. When you’ve got both Barney and the rightosphere piling on, you must be doing something wrong. Accusing the US Armed Forces of intentionally murdering journalists with absolutely no evidence to support your claims qualifies, methinks.
From MM’s blog, quoting E & P’s Greg Mitchell:
Enter Barney Frank, who was there and says otherwise, vehemently. Mitchell must look up to Jordan as just the type of journalistic abomination that he aspires to be.
Pablo on December 14, 2006 at 8:54 AM
My thoughts exactly.
CrimsonFisted on December 14, 2006 at 8:54 AM
I dont trust him. If MM wants to go to Iraq that’s one thing, but dont let this goofball goad her into anything on his terms.

Michelle, you rock, lady!
Pablo on December 14, 2006 at 8:56 AM
Be careful, Michelle! I’m not sure who’s more dangerous – Jordan or the jihadis.
RedWinged Blackbird on December 14, 2006 at 8:56 AM
The term “Bit off more than you can chew” comes immediately to mind.
Pablo on December 14, 2006 at 8:58 AM
Lesson #1 for Eason – don’t go all-in when you’re holding 2-10 off-suit.
steveegg on December 14, 2006 at 9:04 AM
I tend to agree. Beware!
Wade on December 14, 2006 at 9:06 AM

steveegg on December 14, 2006 at 9:24 AM
Michelle, you are one fantastic LADY!
You will really do wonders for our troops morale with your class, intelligence, charm and if I may say Beauty with a capital B.
You really called Jordans bluff.
BUT Be Safe and Be Aware…

Neener neener Michelle! Eason’s dad can beat up your dad!
Typical crap from someone who’s people live under the protection of U.S. forces while their Iraqi stringers fabricate myths.
I personally don’t see any point in Michelle going to Iraq to look for someone who doesn’t exist. (…or at least doesn’t exist yet.)
irishsquid on December 14, 2006 at 9:44 AM
Neener neener Michelle! I dare you to go to Iraq! I TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU!
Recess is over Eason. Time to go back to the classroom. I think you need to stay after school and write “There is no such person as Jamil Hussein.” on the blackboard 100 times.
irishsquid on December 14, 2006 at 9:55 AM
I think she should go. For one, I wouldn’t trust Eason to ever leave the Green Zone.
Two, I think MM would be the only one in Iraq that will not settle for just talking to the supposed stringers. Captian Jamil Hussein himself or bust!
opusrex on December 14, 2006 at 10:07 AM
I think it’s a win-win for Jordan. Lots of free publicity no matter how it turns out. And if he takes credit for settling the issue…oh brother.
MamaAJ on December 14, 2006 at 10:13 AM
“Enter Barney Frank”
Uh, no thanks Pablo, you go ahead hahaha j/k!
Michelle in Baghdad, the Troops will LOVE to see her! Not only is she a strong supporter of theirs, but she’s also BEAUTIFUL and THAT’S what the guys really wanna see! Two for the price of one, way to go Michelle, you kick ass. “CNN WANTS us to lose this war.” Right on Sister.
I remember when Laura went to Iraq and the Troops just ate it up. God bless these brave women who walk the walk and not just talk the talk like some talking heads.
Hey Michelle, take Micheal Moore with you, I’m sure our Soldiers would like to have a word with him.
Tony737 on December 14, 2006 at 10:16 AM
(Did I just think that, or did I actually send it?)
Good for you, Shelley! Our public deserves the truth; AP deserves a solid kick in the teeth; Jordan deserves yet another public pansing; and the troops deserve the truth, a fair press, a reminder of what they are protecting, and a reminder of what kind of total dollies we have here at home.
Be careful over there!

There’s a trend here. Bring your own contingent of security, Michelle, remember Massoud.
JustTruth101 on December 14, 2006 at 10:23 AM
This might be a stretch but this whole thing kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George tells his finacee’s parents he has a house in Hamptons, they call his bluff,he refuses to back down even when they insist on going there with him, and then they all end up wondering around the Hamptons with no where to go.
The AP quoted Jamil, Michelle and others called their bluff, they refused to back down, Michelle continued her presssure, Jordan invites Michelle to Iraq, Michelle accepts, and now Jordan and Michelle will wonder around Iraq looking for a man who may or may not exsist. It’s even better then Seinfeld!
JaHerer22 on December 14, 2006 at 10:25 AM
I hope Jordan’s offere is genuine, but if not, he better be careful daring Michelle Malkin like this.

tormod on December 14, 2006 at 11:10 AM
Go for it Michelle… even if you have to pay for trip yourself the publicity would help you and add gravitas to your claim against the AP…
Say hello to the troops while you are over there…
Ollie North can provide you USMC security…
IntheNet on December 14, 2006 at 11:27 AM
From Jordans site;
This is what he’s hoping for, but Jordan can NOT be validated without someone like Michelle near his lying arse.
You’re smart enough Michelle, you can figure it out.
But dont let the thrill of it all push you over to Iraq and inadvertently lend legitimacy to such a snake. It took a long time for you to climb the ladder, snakes can bring things down awful quick.
There have got to be sponsors available for your trip.
Good luck with your decision.

There a whole lotta hate on the left directed toward Michelle for calling Jordan’s bluff. Confederate Yankee had to close his thread on the topic because a typical peace, love and happiness LIBERAL went Michael Richards on him.
BohicaTwentyTwo on December 14, 2006 at 11:29 AM
Don’t go anywhere without security – especially with Jordan – I wouldn’t believe him if he told me my own name.
Who knows what kind of deal he made to keep his Jihadi contacts? After all he gave up the truth to Saddam for so-called ‘access’ He may offer up Michelle to the Jihadis next – he’s that slimey. Or maybe a few pictures for the AP….
CrazyFool on December 14, 2006 at 11:32 AM
I hope she does NOT go. Not worth the risk for a mother, just to prove the AP are morons.
We know that already.

Michelle, I agree with a lot of the other comments, I wouldn’t trust Jordan. Besides, he doesn’t have the gumballs to go to Iraq.
SAM 1X on December 14, 2006 at 12:00 PM
Dunno … mixed feelings on this.
On one hand, seeing Michelle possibly getting near to the line of fire even if she’s not in it makes me a little nervous. Some Jihadi gets off a lucky shot and a lot of us would be very, very sad, angry and devastated.
On the other hand:
- Air fare to Iraq and back again, courtesy of Eason Jordan: Free.
- Michelle being able to make a fool of Eason Jordan in his snipe hunt for the AP’s equivalent of Bigfoot – worth Jordan’s weight in gold.
- Michelle possibly being able to get out and rub elbows with the troops? In the currency of morale and appreciation for the support of a beautiful woman … Priceless.
Have a great trip, Michelle! If you don’t come back with Jamil’s pelt, Jordan’s will do. Just be careful out there, hmm?
Spurius Ligustinus on December 14, 2006 at 12:21 PM
Second thought: We need you here.
(1)You have not trained for this mission and it would be a greater loss for no excellent reason.
(2)Too many variables to cover, having tried with this short notice.
(3)Please do not consider this, other boots will be on the ground, available, and trustworthy.
tormod on December 14, 2006 at 12:23 PM
Michelle, this string contains several cautions – very appropriate.
Columnist, author, blogger, Hot Air, rising media star – these are all very exciting – and you have earned it by working very hard to get here. It is the American dream come true.
Hopefully you will live well past your eighties and see your children and grandchildren grow up as men and women you will be proud of. They need you to get there. At the end of your days the love, respect and fellowship of your family will mean much much more than wealth, honors and wall plaques.
In the decision to go or not to go to Baghdad please consider what is written in Numbers 30:10-13. It is not popular counsel in this era, but then consider how well this era is faring
Jesse, if she goes please go with her. You are the best protection she has.

Michelle, your own security detail is an essential, dont trust the left, no matter how sincere the intentions may seem.
After that, bring back the big juicy truth that will send the moonbats spinning..

Don’t worry about Michelle, she’ll be safer in Iraq, surrounded by American Soldiers and Marines, than you and I are here at home. I was watching this female comedian (can’t think of her name) who was in Iraq entertaining the Troops and when she came back, in her live act, she was talkin’ about how safe she was. What’s her name? Red hair. Calls herself “Queen of the ‘B’ list actors”. Litlle help here please. Thanks.

Kathy Griffin
She is very funny and while I don’t agree with her politics, I respect the fact that she did go to Iraq to do some shows for the troops.
BlueStateBlues on December 14, 2006 at 3:17 PM
Michelle,
We all love your work and want you to succeed, and this may be a great opportunity to show the naysayers. But remember, you published the cartoons, and that drives the loonies crazy. Take Ollie, sniper one, Jesse, and Michael Yon, then I will feel alot better.

That’s it! Kathy Griffen. Thanks Blue! She was hysterically funny as she told about her time in Afghanistan and Iraq, and it sounded to me like she was (mostly) on our side politically. She had a great act. I wish I could remember it better and pass it on here.
Tony737 on December 14, 2006 at 4:48 PM
If Michelle goes to Iraq, I hope she will be well armed and protected, and not waste time searching for a person; the AP was been using as a source for at least 2 years and now they can’t find him.
In my opinion this offer is only “bait” and nothing good will come of it.
If Michelle goes to Iraq I want to see A Vent with Michelle, MKH, and KP at the shooting range before she goes.
F15Mech on December 14, 2006 at 5:40 PM
Michelle going to Iraq?? Dude. That’d be awesome, but also not awesome, because something very bad could happen to her there. I agree with F15Mech – lots of protection and shooting practice.
May God bless MM in her endeavors!
emmaline1138 on December 14, 2006 at 5:51 PM
Smart move on Jordan’s part. He’s trying to create a new career as an online news source. He needs media allies to pull that off. There are only two choices:
1) Win over the blogs by sticking it to the AP. Tough to do given his history, but destroying the AP’s credibility in a public way would win me over.
2) Win over the MSM by sticking it to the blogs. He embarrassed his liberal colleagues before; this is a chance to get back in their graces by making a high profile conservative blogger (Michelle) look bad for questioning them.
I don’t think it’s a set up. The reality is, however it turns out in Iraq, Eason Jordan wins.
John on December 14, 2006 at 6:50 PM
I agree, armed with a H&K Mark 23. And I’m sure our friends at the USAF SOW from Hurlburt Field AFB would be willing to provide close air support to protect our precious “Firecracker”. God’s speed and give em hell.

Given that it’s probably a trap (on several levels), how do you deal with it? (I don’t know. I’m not even sure I’m making good guesses.)
Independent communication. Your own satellite phones. Your own cameras. Your own power supplies and backup batteries.
Independent protection. Training and practice, with body, arms, and companions. Those guarded have to know how to act and react, just as the guards do.
Advanced preparation for disasters. What are you (and we) going to do when her and her team are grabbed, with or without Jason, and held up for neck-sawing on the evening news? Don’t say it can’t happen. Describe how the world is going to be that it will not happen, even with the best laid plans on their side, and when she’s captured how you get her back safely.
Go over your plans again, expecting betrayal.
She would be a prime target.
htom on December 14, 2006 at 9:31 PM
I’m one of the ones torn between “that would be great” and “it’s a trap!!!!” regarding this. Not the “AHA!” sort of trap Curt describes, since that’s to be expected of someone like Jordan; more of one that results in physical harm for Michelle and anyone with her.
The recommendations on security sound wise.
Patrick Chester on December 15, 2006 at 12:06 AM
I hope that you will be careful Michelle. I wouldn’t trust Eason as far as I could throw him. My husband is embedded with the National Police so he can help you out if need be, but Jordan would be on his own.
Catie96706 on December 15, 2006 at 1:43 AM
The benefit of a successful trip would be a major career enhancement and better recognition for bloggers in general.
The level of risk is probably reasonably small, even though you would be a prize capture.
Allahp posted this in the “terror sheikh” article:
The cost of failure due to capture or sniper fire is unthinkable.
The soldiers over there are facing those risks to prevent their families and loved ones at home from having to face those risks.
tormod said it well:
roydee43 on December 15, 2006 at 2:09 AM
I know there are people that might doubt Jordan’s intenions, and with good reason I might add. But you know, this was a guy drummed out of CNN. The MSM has turned their back on him. He has two choices if he wants to stay relevant. Be like Peter Arnett, who I believe is now the Information Minister for the Islamic State of Iraq, or become a thorn in the MSM’s side. Like many major media players, this isn’t about politics, this is about greed and stroking Jordan’s ego. If he can take down AP, he will have carved out a nice little niche for himself, and we may have found a new ally on one of the most important fronts in the War on Terror.
