Video: U.S. troops on Kerry, the media, and Iraq

posted at 2:27 pm on December 12, 2006 by Allahpundit

Sean Hannity met them last week when he was in Mosul. Sounds like Waffles’s comment still grates, which might explain in part why Teddy is already inching away.

Note what one man says about “instant gratification.” WaPo’s got a new poll out that puts approval of Bush’s handling at Iraq at a new low — 28% — but just as interesting is the trend. The last time approval was over 50% was January 2004, nine months after the invasion. The first time it dipped below 50% was in September 2003; four months earlier it had been 75%. Americans want victory, but they want it fast.

Another poll out today leads with the fact that the public trusts the Iraq Study Group’s judgment more than Bush’s. True, but scroll down and you’ll see that they trust the military’s judgment more than either. A panel of five retired generals told Bush today that while the situation’s dire, they oppose withdrawal and any negotiations with Syria or Iran. On the contrary, they recommend expanding the Army and Marines.

There was yet a third poll released earlier this week, but crack statistician Keith Olbermann‘s already all over that one. Follow the link and see what counts as two-thirds support in the Olbyverse.

Here’s the vid.

Wish we could see more of these guys from the 25th ID on mainstream television. That would never happen. As I said before, we live in a Sesame Street, Drive-thru world and most of the Americans don’t get that this is not a game that will end in an hour or longer. I am so proud of my husband and all his brothers and sisters in uniform are doing. The intellectuals are not on the ground. They should just shut up. Hear that trolls!

Catie96706 on December 12, 2006 at 2:55 PM

Good video. Hannity brings it home nicely.

Also Sean, please make sure the American public knows, these soldiers have not been duped. We knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into when we came in the military, but we have a much more intellectual, smarter force today. These are soldiers who think on their feet. They have a lot more responsibility than the average American.

I’m gonna tell you right now. Now this is an old adage, but we love our country. It’s that simple. We love our country.

Booyah! Hey Jon Cary, go shoot a pheasant from your windsurfer.

On Olby, is anyone surprised that he spins numbers any way he chooses? Of course 39 vs 20 is 2 to 1. But last I checked, 39+20+26=85. A survey that only reports 85% of the responses is a lie before it gets on paper. Then give those short-changed numbers to a bufoon like the Olbertician and you’re bound to get a twisted perspective.

Forget Olbermann. I want to know what the response was for the other 15%. That’s not too much to ask, when you publish a report intended to show an opinion trend.

Sure isn’t Vietnam! No way! No How!!!

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on December 12, 2006 at 2:58 PM

Dig deeper in the poll, and you’ll find out 99.67% of the American people have no idea who Keith Olberdunce is.

JammieWearingFool on December 12, 2006 at 3:00 PM

As fun as it is to bash Olby,

OLBERMANN: There is a new poll out of Newsweek that shows that Americans are backing the Iraq Study Group’s recommendations two to one

is an accurate statement (one could pick a nit and say it ought to be 1.95 to one, but that’s pushing it). He did not say ‘two-thirds support’.

The Monster on December 12, 2006 at 3:08 PM

Thanks for posting this AP, I have it DVRed myself, and despite lackluster video capturing, was going to YouTube it and post it myself if I didn’t see it here.

Why does no one care about the opinion of the men and women who are actually on the ground doing the hard work? A nice companion video would be a compilation of all the live spots Oliver North has been doing with the troops over there.

Americans want victory, but they want it fast.

The problem is, people don’t understand that we aren’t fighting a country looking for a cease-fire or surrender… We’re fighting people who dress in civilian clothes and would happily blow themselves up to blow you up. This is a different kind of war and it will go on… forever likely, because no one wants to confront the real problem – Islam. No, we’ll keep saying “it’s a religion of peace” so as not to offend, even though we know it’s the “religion of blown to pieces”. But there is no “end” to this war, I hate to break it to folks.

RightWinged on December 12, 2006 at 3:10 PM

I watched this last nite and am looking forward to Part 2 this evening. The quotes from those guys brought tears to my eyes. And when the last man so very eloquently made his point” We love our Country”. We are lucky to have such brave men paying every day a price for Freedom that I have never been asked to pay.
God Bless all our Armed Forces and their Families.

labwrs on December 12, 2006 at 3:11 PM

That video gives me chills. I don’t have a clue how the left can speak one negative word about our brave men and women in our armed forces. God bless those that give us our freedoms by putting themselves in harms way. Hoo-rah!

fightingirish24 on December 12, 2006 at 3:11 PM

Great posting.

I wish more Americans could see this. It’s nice to know what our military acutally thinks about this issue, rather than being told by others what our military thinks.

asc85 on December 12, 2006 at 3:13 PM

America’s best is in uniform.

infidel on December 12, 2006 at 3:15 PM

If we would only just get out of the way of consumate professionals like these troops!! How dare we spend all our time thinking about our next purchase at the mall, or the next fat meal we’re having – or any other personal economic ambition – then turn around and answer an opinion poll in a way that tells these aces they’re taking too long! How DARE we!

God bless these troops for have the brains and the guts we don’t!

The Ritz on December 12, 2006 at 3:17 PM

That’s what I’m talking about.

Nicely put, Catie! My brother is currently in Bagdad. He, along with your husband, and all of our men & women in uniform are my heroes.

KelliD on December 12, 2006 at 3:17 PM

Yes . . . “for have the brains. . .” (see what I mean?)

The Ritz on December 12, 2006 at 3:20 PM

Awesome individuals doing awesome things!

How can anyone look at these soldiers and say “We can’t win”? When I look at them all I can say is “WE CAN’T LOSE”.

Lone Star on December 12, 2006 at 3:25 PM

This interview would have been useful before the election.

Don’t know much about “book learnin’” myself, but – they seem pretty intelligent to me. It is very reassuring to consider how many minds on the ground have their attitude. They surely apply it every day. Even at their own risk.

However, the Iraq war is over. While some consider what is or is not a civil war, our troops are clearly engaged in peace keeping now – though they have not taken that stance.

This idea of peace keeping will be the Democrats next play for abandoning Iraq. They use the words civil war like pablum, while distasteful – it is somehow noble.

Peace keeping has another connotation – barbarians with no nobility that need to be kept apart. Continued wanton violence makes the case, and the Dems will use it.

Darfur will be the door to discussion about peace keeping, and Americans may reject it (seeing the pattern of those we try to help turning on us). With that the question will return to “what are we doing in Iraq?”

Michael Moore (perhaps in frustration) has shown the left’s true racist attitude in recent comments. He essentially makes the point that “those people” aren’t worth it. He returns to the original liberal racist position before the war that “those people” can’t handle democracy.

Some who have taken a hard look at Islam may reach the same conclusion. The War on Terror is not over. Continued wanton violence also makes this case in Iraq and elsewhere.

Connecting the violence to Imperial/Fascist/Radical Islam and Terrorism, after using the label barbarism, will be a difficult conversation.

I just don’t get how we can praise and overpay talentless actors and pop stars who couldn’t hold a tune without lots of technological help, but yet, we don’t even know the names of these men.

If we had our priorities straight, these men would have their own cards (like baseball cards).

Esthier on December 12, 2006 at 3:44 PM

And why do you do this ? “Because we love our Country”. Can the dems and libs say the same?

Wade on December 12, 2006 at 3:55 PM

How can anybody respect morons like kerry…murtha…durbin…???

No surprises here.

After all, our boys are the ones on the ground fighting the fight and reassuring the Iraqi people that theirs is a mission of liberation not occupation.

No, we get the stories, the so-called facts, from the MSM and the Iraq Study Group (Heh, let’s pull an all nighter and order some pizza …. cool) who spend all of their worthless time in the Green Zone looking at the chaos in Baghdad central from their hotel window.

Want to know the truth. You’ll find it where Sean did.

Duty. Country. Honor.

I’d be proud to start all over again to serve with these young men and women.

HOOAH!!!

Lonevoice on December 12, 2006 at 4:08 PM

The MSM (especially Frank Rich) has been deliberately lying about the war for several years now. As have the Democrats who are willing to commit treason in order to get back into power.

This video from Hannity, even though it is the truth, will go into the memory hole because The traitors in the media and the Democratic Party *WANT US TO LOSE THIS WAR* — and they will do everything they can to bring that about. And lying is no problem for them.

God bless these men and women. God rest the souls of our fallen.

The max enlistment age is 42 now, and I’m only 38. I’m trying to talk my husband into letting me join when our daughter starts college (she’s a hs soph now), if my health is improved enough to get in. But I wish there was more we could do now. You watch those old WWII movies, and everybody did something; there was plenty to do. We seem kind of shut out of this, other than giving money to the right charities.

Laura on December 12, 2006 at 4:32 PM

BECAUSE WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY!!!!!

God bless all those amazing troops over there. I had goose bumps listening to these interviews, I could sit for hours hearing what they had to say. I would love to see a true Iraq Study Group with these troops brainstorming an intelligent plan for victory not cut and run.

With all the great computer skills the regular posters in here have, someone should come up with an American Military Hero Card we can put these guys faces on.

We love and support each and everyone of you in the Military. We give you our unconditional support, and I pray that the idiot cowardly politicians don’t throw away your hard fought gains and victories a la Vietnam. We have not lost a battle militarily, and looking at these troops, I see why, in their dedication. Politicians lose wars. Civilian control of the military is essential, but they should only outline the needed outcome, and allow the military experts that have trained for this, to carry it out. At the same time, be adamant in supporting those troops while they do the job.

The MTV attention span that all situations must be solved on the 1/2 hour, or it is taking too long, is not a sustainable why to govern a nation.

As for that olby poll does anybody think the “not aware of the report” group can probably be accurately described as moderates, or is that just me?

Well, I’ll get off my soapbox now. My main point is this, to all you members of the Military, YOU HAVE MY UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT, WHICH YOU HAVE EARNED AND CONTINUE TO EARN EVERY DAY. God Bless You, Stay Safe as you can, and Merry Christmas.

After hearing from troops such as these and realizing that the MSM will never air anything like this,,, let’s be blunt, it’s sedition pure and simple.

More of America’s best.

Bomb Doctor on December 12, 2006 at 5:24 PM

Damn, they make me proud–truly the best of us. They understand the risks as well as the stakes better than anybody sitting here safe back in the States, and they want to complete the mission. I’d rather have that little group watching my back than a thousand Jon Carys.

ReubenJCogburn on December 12, 2006 at 6:42 PM

This is the best link this site has ever hosted! None of the regular lefties that troll here can say anything against these men and women who voluntarily took up their commitments to serve our great country. You got it straight from the horses mouth that they want to be there, and they know what’s at stake and what it will take to win. God Bless our troops, our President, and those that truly want us to win.

Everyday that I’m at work, I see at least ONE man or woman on the plane representing at least one branch of the Armed Forces and therefore everyday that I’m at work, I’m givin’ SOMEbody a free beer! Just doin’ my part to boost the morale of the Troops :-) And Southwest LUVs it when we do that for our Protectors. I also get on the mic and let the other Customers know that we have a special guest onboard and every time, the whole plane erupts in applause for our Heroes. God bless them and their families.

I strongly support our Troops and I strongly support their mission.

LET THEM WIN THIS WAR!

They are doing the most nobel of things. Not just for us here in the US, but also for the whole world. They are literally saving the world.

If we do not win this war, and in my opinion win it decisively, the world is gonna take a starkly different and decidedly dark path through future history.

LET THEM WIN THIS WAR!

If you live near a base consider checking with the family support center or youth center and ask what you can help with. Oftentimes babysitters, tutors, etc. are needed to help the spouses of the deployed members. If you aren’t near a base but near major airports the USO facility within the airport is run entirely by volunteers. You will meet many of the troops who are deploying at the USO facilities.

Just a couple of thoughts to consider.
