There can be no defense of carter. He was the worst president this country has ever had. There is not one positive thing that came from his 4 years other than his leaving after his landslide defeat. People who try to defend him did not live as an adult during those times. The shame of all is he continues to hang around undermining this fine nation.

Fair enough, you think GW is doing a great job and people all over the world respect him and admire him and his policies. The news, Fox and other professional political analyst (conservatives) and the American people believe BUSH has done a terrible JOB. GW’s approval is in the trash (30%) nationally and globally.

It’s NOT my opinion, its people world wide who hate Bush and his policies, De facto America. He is in charge and responsible. Deal with it.

Argumentum ad numerum, next to "The Big Lie" (AKA argumentum ad nauseam) is the favorite "debating tool" of the left. They believe that the "approval rating" of someone validates their personal animus irrespective of the policies or actions involved. They view it as the MOST IMPORTANT facet of political life. That is why they use it as often as they do -- and why YOU are using it now.

It is also known as "governing by polling numbers," and it is how Bill Clinton governed -- and it is why NOTHING effective was done in his administration to STOP the Islamofascists from attacking us.

Argumentum ad numerum is debate throught the use of fallacy -- a form of lying.

Sometimes, there is "the right thing to do," and then there is the "popular thing to do." Thousands of lives, including the lives of our families and friends, and billions in property are at stake here, and for the national defense policies to be determined by opinion polls is the height of insanity. But that is what fools like YOU are arguing for.

You write:

Just tune in BBC for a week, it makes the New York Times look like Fox news. Call me stupid, ignorant and crazy, ho hum, Facts?

Why should I give a FLYING FRACK what the BBC says? They are (1) ultra-leftwing, (2) America-hating, (3) propagandists. And they have been so for DECADES. I find the opinions of people that hate me because I'm an American to be less than useful.

And about those polls....

Noam Chomsky, a man I despise personally, coined a term, "manufacturing consent," as the process which the media uses to establish popular opinion. When he coined the term, he was referring to media corporations (CAPITALISTS!!!) abusing the people by force-feeding them CAPITALIST DRECK propaganda and thus warping their minds and making them into CAPITALIST DRONES.

Chomsky got the term right, but missed the point that irrespective of ownership, it is the EDITORIAL STAFF and their ideological biases that are used to "shape opinion" in America today.

Look, this isn't new. William Randolph Hearst started a war with Spain almost all by himself. He "manufactured" enough "consent" to get Congress to declare war on Spain over a naval accident by inflamatory reporting and editorials.

George W. Bush's "numbers" as the left loves to dote on, are "poor" only because of 3 years of DELIBERATELY slanted press personally villifying him and slanted against his administration. Specifically, repeated repitition of "scandals" invented out of whole cloth -- remember PALMGATE?), repeated diatribes against the war ("WE'RE LUZING, WE'RE LUZING!) irrespective of the facts, and pure character assassination using forged National Guard Documents, and personal insults, and daily US KIA announcements presented without context or specifying the actions; announcements deliberately designed to make the audience believe that our enemies are simply "picking us off, and we're impotent to stop them."

Has there been even ONE comparison to WWII's casualty rates in the menda? Nope. If there were, the American people would wonder what the fuss is all about and begin to understand WHY the media is lying to them on a daily basis.

You wrote:

When you bomb, occupy and wage war which precipitates 100,000’s killed (and your reasons for starting the war turn out to be wrong) people are going to be mad. Do Ya think?

Another bit of outright deceit. I know that it is a popular Bush-hater talking point to talk about the "hundreds of thousands" Iraqis killed (an leftwing-invented outright lie) and that "BUSH LIED!!" about the WMD; the "wrong reason," we went to war.

There were two dozen casus belli in Public Law 107-243, the act of Congress that authorized the war against Saddam's government.

TWO of them were citations of actual ACTS OF WAR that Iraq had actually committed against the United States that were reasons to go to war ALL BY THEM SELVES. One was the attempted assassination of Bush 41. The other was REPEATED and CONTINUING attacks on US aircraft flying UN sanctioned missions in the No-Fly Zone.

CONGRESS, not the President, specifically found that Saddam's regime was a "continuing threat to the national security of the United States and international peace and security in the Persian Gulf...."

That is why we went to war against the tyrant, the "Butcher of Baghdad," Saddam Hussein. The reasons we went to war were very clear to anyone who bothered to read the legislation. What part of this do you not understand?

Then you wrote: "Why are we losing? Too many mistakes to name."

How about you name these mistakes. How about you sustain your point that we ARE, in fact, losing. The anti-war, Bush-hating jackels of the press SAY we are losing. But, given that there are EXACTLY 9 embedded reporters in combat with hour troops (the rest being alcoholic cowards hiding in their hotel bars in the Green Zone and relying on THE ENEMY PROPAGANDISTS that they hire as "sringers") how the hell WOULD THEY EVEN KNOW?

The only reason that fools like you believe that America is "luzing" this war is because the Associated Press and Reuters, and CNN have been acting as the propaganda front of Al Qaeda and Iran.

You wrote: "Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld, a cabal that listened to no one...."

So what! George W. Bush and Richard Cheney were elected as the EXECUTIVE BRANCH of the United States Government. Donald Rumsfeld was the CONFIRMED SECRETARY OF DEFENSE, a member of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH. Do you understand how our government works? The President is the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF and it is the EXECUTIVE BRANCH that is charged with deciding how a war is to be fought, not the media nor the Democratic Party. Why the FRACK should they "listen" to the idiots and morons of the left? If they had, we would all be praying to Mecca 5 times aday, because YOUR side are appeasers and surrender monkeys. Their job is to LEAD, not follow.

Then you write: "I think Bush is also a nice guy btw, but a president?"

Yeah, pal. He IS THE PRESIDENT. Our Constitution says so. And if you don't like it, you can move to France. Don't you lying fools ever get tired of the insulting "Bush is a chimp" nonsense? Do YOU have a Harvard MBA? Were you educated at Yale?

You wrote: "Truth is CARTER increased military spending."

Carter did no such thing. In his first 3 years, he gutted the military so that by the time our embassy was taken over in Teheran, we were unable to mount a rescue mission, the fleet was transfering missiles and electronics at sea between returning ships and those going out on patrol. After the debacle at "desert one," even that ignoramus Carter saw that he had to increase the defense department's budget, which he did for the fiscal year that applied to his successor. But the REAL buildup of the military occurred under Reagan who was his successor, and who continued it throughout most of his presidency.

You wrote: "Pres CARTER began the anti-Soviet military buildup generally attributed to his successor, Reagan."

Carter is also the FOOL who stood by and watch the Soviet Union invade Afghanistan ('cause he "trusted them") and did nothing to help, either. Oh, wait. Silly me. He did take a strong stand after all -- he REFUSED to allow the US Olympic team to attend the Moscow Olympics in protest. WOW! That worked....

The Democratic Party and liberals have managed to return to power using tactics that border on TREASON. Jay Rockerfeller got caught leaking our war plan to Syria (and hence Saddam) in 2002. Jay Rockerfeller's plan to sabotage the war for political gain was leaked to the press in October 2003. Democratic US Representative Jim McDermott went to Iraq on the eve of the war to express SOLIDARITY with our enemy.

With the assistence of their allies, the media, the Democrats undermined support for the war, lied about the anti-terrorist activities the government was undertaking, opposed all policies that would defeat "Al Qaeda in America," including making our borders secure, AND now they enjoy "brotherly greetings" and solidarity from the very same enemy that has killed 6 thousand Americans since 2001.

Democrats and liberals ARE America's treason party. Deal with THAT!

With the assistence of their allies, the media, the Democrats undermined support for the war, lied about the anti-terrorist activities the government was undertaking, opposed all policies that would defeat “Al Qaeda in America,” including making our borders secure, AND now they enjoy “brotherly greetings” and solidarity from the very same enemy that has killed 6 thousand Americans since 2001.

Democrats and liberals ARE America’s treason party. Deal with THAT!

Gmcjetpilot:

Some thoughts in response to what you wrote above. Your comments are italicized.

Fair enough, you think GW is doing a great job and people all over the world respect him and admire him and his policies. The news, Fox and other professional political analyst (conservatives) and the American people believe BUSH has done a terrible JOB. GW’s approval is in the trash (30%) nationally and globally.

One of the earlier responses to you pointed out that the rest of the world was anti-American well before President Bush, that there were many, many terrorist attacks against Americans and American interests before president Bush, and that there will be raging anti-Americanism well after President Bush is out of office.

So, claiming the world hates us b/c of Pres. Bush is foolish. Yes, no one is arguing that much of the world does not like Pres. Bush. So what? The only president those people would like is someone who refuses to pursue American interests or protect America. Does that mean we should stop protecting America, or America’s interests b/c the rest of the world hates America and always will? Indeed, which country’s “love” should we base all of your foreign policy decisions on?

Moreover, just b/c Bush has low approval ratings does not mean he is necessarily doing a bad job as President. For instance, Clinton had fairly high approval ratings, but my guess is that in about 20 years, he will be seen as an average at best president (quick, name one thing he did that will be remembered in 10 years). Meanwhile, Truman and Eisenhower both had lackluster polls while in office, but their status as good to great presidents continues to grow as the fruits of their policies are better understood years later. Thus, it is impossible to tell how history will treat GWB for many, many years. Current polling does nothing to tell us that. I happen to like some of his policies and dislike others. I support what he is trying to accomplish in Iraq, and in the War on Terror in general, and support the other steps he has taken to prevent another terrorist attack on American soil. I support his tax policies. I did not support his immigration plan, No child Left Behind, Medicare Plan B, or his signing of McCain-Fiengold. I do support his judicial appointments. So, as in all things, a mixed-bag.

It’s NOT my opinion, its people world wide who hate Bush and his policies, De facto America. He is in charge and responsible. Deal with it.

As pointed out above, so what? Sometimes, leading means taking unpopular positions. I understand that liberals cannot understand this, as only feelings matter to liberals. Moreover, as pointed out above, I, and most thinking people, really don’t care what “people world wide” think. People are anti-American for a lot of reasons, and almost none of those reasons are what you believe them to be. Foreign nations and peoples want to pull America down in order to further their own interests (be it trade, military power, etc), not b/c of some wonderful altruism that only the “rest of the world” can come up with.

Just tune in BBC for a week, it makes the New York Times look like Fox news. Call me stupid, ignorant and crazy, ho hum, Facts?

And this means what or proves what? That the BBC is incredibly biased toward socialism and liberalism? I think we knew that.

Say its the terrorist fault, I’d agree with that 100%, but the world opinion has turned against the USA. America, the strongest nation in the world, can say screw them. I do all the time when I hear the word France, however this “up-yours policy” has consequences, one being people hate us. Stupid World.

Yes, that’s right, America has “turned its back on the world”. Except that’s not even remotely true. And, as I’ve tried to explain above, the “rest of the world’s” hatred of the U.S. is generally based in their own self-interest, which often conflicts with America’s interests. Why should we prize everyone else’s self-interest above our own? What country should we be trying to placate (as every other country’s interests do not align with each other, by placating one, we will be pissing of another) - Germany? France? Saudi Arabia? Russia? China? North Korea? Cuba?

What country do you see as the standard that we must bow to in pursuing foreign policy?

WHY do they hate us? Because we are not winning Iraq.

Not one single country “hates” us b/c of Iraq. Instead, many countries see Iraq as a means of attacking us and making us look weak, or trying to achieve whatever ends they are looking for. Anti-Americans saw this as a means to attack the country (through protests and condemnations) and did so. If it was not Iraq, it would be something else. Moreover, the idea that those peoples and/or countries would not hate us if we were “winning” in Iraq (according to your definition) is absurd.

I find it interesting that so many countries and people “hate” America because we invaded Iraq with the intention of establishing democracy, but ignore much, much worse behavior from Castro, China, all of the Islamic countries, many African nations, to name a few. Is it because they genuinely “hate” the idea of one country invading another, a la Iraq, or because they hate America and this is a reason to protest? If the former, then their silence about so many other worse things in the world is strange.

If “mission accomplished” in 2003 was really accomplished and peace and democracy was flourishing today Bush and America would be heroes.

I’m not so sure that is true. However, even assuming that it would be true, since when has trying to accomplish something great and noble (establishing democracy in Iraq) become so “evil” simply because it did not work (assuming, as you seem to, that Iraq is a lost cause)? Hindsight is always 20/20.

Than there is that little detail of no WMD’s or 9/11 connection, which kind of pissed off a few people. Go figure, spoiled sports.

Again, hindsight is 20/20. Everyone thought there were WMDs. Clinton said it in 1998, the UN said it, all the major dem leaders said it at one time or another between 1993 and 2002. All the intelligence agency’s believed it, and Saddam’s government acted like it had them. So, we acted on that belief. It was reasonable to do so.

When you bomb, occupy and wage war which precipitates 100,000’s killed (and your reasons for starting the war turn out to be wrong) people are going to be mad. Do Ya think?

So? If the reasons to go to war were right, and based on the best available information, then so be it.

At least CARTER did not lie. He was a terriable politician but was honest, too honest.

Well, Carter did try to get the Communist USSR to help him in is re-election campaign, which is probable treasonous. He also has lied repeatedly since leaving office, and his new book is almost nothing but lies. So you are wrong. Not only is he not “too honest” but he is perhaps one of the worst individuals to ever hold the presidency. Based on this words and actions since leaving the presidency, I think he is a very, very bad person with low moral character and a general contempt or hatred for America.

Why are we losing? Too many mistakes to name. Who is in charge? Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld, a cabal that listened to no one and the rubber stamp congress who did not do their job. Bad combo. Lesson learned, never have one party run everything because its a recipe for corruption, incompetence and hubris.

Does this mean you are going to vote for a republican for president in 2008? Somehow, I doubt it. Everything else here is opinion, not fact, and is a whole other argument, so I won’t respond to it.

I don’t understand the hard core “go down with the ship” support of GW and hate for Pres Carter. I get denial, wanting to pretend its ok and misplaced party loyalty but get real.

Look, if you actually read conservative web-sites and magazines, you would know this is not even remotely true. Just because we don’t agree with you on impeachment, does not mean we agree with everything done by the administration. I still think GWB has done a lot of good things as president, and was a far better alternative than Gore or Kerry. Carter is hated because of his words and deeds since leaving office, which are error filled, lies, and show a contempt and hatred for America unrivaled in anything in American history for an ex-president.

Look one last thing about CARTER. He inherited the county from Nixon/Ford in 1977 with “Stagflation”, double-digit inflation, suffering the effects the Vietnam War, and Watergate (Richard “I’m not a crook” Nixon), raging energy crisis and the Iran hostage thing, which was out of left field, much like 9/11; I feel sorry for him.

Iran Hostage crisis was not out of left field. Many of his own actions led to the revolution in Iran. And his handling of the matter was abysmal and made it go on much longer than it should have. Moreover, his own policies helped cause “stagflation” and he certainly did nothing good for America. However, it was a difficult time and if he was not so bad as an ex-president, he would simply be remembered as someone in over his head. Unfortunately, he has created his own legacy by showing his hatred for America in everything he says and does.

We all agree Carter’s presidency was a disaster of the first order, but as a humanitarian post public office he’s done good; he was just the wrong man for President. You can legitimately disagree with his stand on Israel. Just because he is not 100% pro green light go Israel’s policies does not make him an anti-semite. No rational person thinks that. He wants peace with all his soul. Give him some credit.

Look, that is such a straw man. No one says that not being 100% pro-isreal makes someone an anti semite. It is his lies about isreal, compounded with his lies in favor of the PLO, and his words and actions that demonstrate that he is an anti-semite. Carter’s work with habitat for humanity has been good. Everything else he has done has been for the benefit of socialism and America’s enemies. He has never met an anti-American leftist dictator or terrorist who he does not love (Chavez, Castro, N.K.’s guy). Carter is always willing to take the position against his country, no matter what it is. Your willingness to overlook that and defend him is strange.

You are really long winded, so I’ll only address one more point:

Carter was Anti-Iraq war! I guess he can say to us, I told you so? Hey I was all for the Iraq war because I believed the goverment. I believed WMD’s, 9/11 connection, only 6 months at most, greeted as liberators, only a small force and cost will be needed. I’ll not make that mistake again.

- A) WMD’s - both sides of the aisle believed they were there.

-     B)  nobody from the Administration ever said that Iraq was connected to 9/11, despite what leftist blogs claim (get me a cite to a mainstream media article quoting someone from before the war if you dispute this);

- c) cite me where anyone from the administration ever claimed “6 months at most”

I think some people claimed we would be greeted as liberators, and I think initially, we were, at least by the Shi’ite majority. As to small force and costs, I’m not entirely sure that small costs were ever promised, nor was a small force. Thus, your entire point is based upon a false premise.

We must be united or we’ll fall. Put your Dem / Carter hating away and join today’s reality. God Bless America and her people. Merry Christmas.

wonderful sentiment. If you support GWB I’ll stop hating Carter.

You're a silly person. There is no country on earth that so many people want to come to. Your self-loathing Democrat schtick is a form of mental disease.

gmcjetpilot said,

Jimmy Carter is just a scapegoat and poster child for Republican hate, rancor and vitriol ....

gmcjetpilot then said,

the American people believe BUSH has done a terrible JOB

GW’s approval is in the trash (30%) nationally and globally.

It’s NOT my opinion, its people world wide who hate Bush and his policies, De facto America. He is in charge and responsible. Deal with it.

however this “up-yours policy” has consequences, one being people hate us. Stupid World.

If “mission accomplished” in 2003 was really accomplished and peace and democracy was flourishing today Bush and America would be heroes.

Who is in charge? Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld, a cabal that listened to no one

Yeh pal, your civility towards Bush far surpasses the Jimmy Carter hatred you pin on Republicans.

And if Carter is the good man you claim he is, he would abide to the long-standing protocol respected by every ex-president before him, and keep his big mouth shut regarding the foreign policy of a sitting president.

P.S. Jimmah's "mission accomplished", that lasting peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, ended up getting Anwar Sadat assassinated by Egyptian jihadists. Funny the way things turn out. Jimmah mistakenly thought Israel was the sole enemy of Egypt, but overlooked the islamic fundamentalists hiding in plain sight. Then there's today, where Bush sees the big picture, realizes who the most threatening enemy is, and takes the battle to them.

But heh, Jimmah and you would be talkin to 'em.

What stuns me is the number of people who act as if Carter's hatred for Jews is a recent conversion.

I got the same kick some earlier posters did from Carter's comment that he even offered to speak for free at schools with large Jewish populations. The writing is on the wall, he only needs to sign his name with a swastika.

------------
(gmcjetpilot) “I LOVE America and think we are the good guys, but FACT, we are so hated by the world, in part thanks to GW.”

That’s one of the most stupid, most ignorant, comments I’ve ever read.

Not that idea that we’re the “good guys,” nor the understanding that we’re hated. It’s the final part — “thanks to GW.”
------------

Fair enough, you think GW is doing a great job and people all over the world respect him and admire him and his policies. The news, Fox and other professional political analyst (conservatives) and the American people believe BUSH has done a terrible JOB. GW's approval is in the trash (30%) nationally and globally.

It's NOT my opinion, its people world wide who hate Bush and his policies, De facto America. He is in charge and responsible. Deal with it.

Just tune in BBC for a week, it makes the New York Times look like Fox news. Call me stupid, ignorant and crazy, ho hum, Facts?

Say its the terrorist fault, I'd agree with that 100%, but the world opinion has turned against the USA. America, the strongest nation in the world, can say screw them. I do all the time when I hear the word France, however this "up-yours policy" has consequences, one being people hate us. Stupid World.

WHY do they hate us? Because we are not winning Iraq.

If "mission accomplished" in 2003 was really accomplished and peace and democracy was flourishing today Bush and America would be heroes.

Than there is that little detail of no WMD's or 9/11 connection, which kind of pissed off a few people. Go figure, spoiled sports.

When you bomb, occupy and wage war which precipitates 100,000's killed (and your reasons for starting the war turn out to be wrong) people are going to be mad. Do Ya think? At least CARTER did not lie. He was a terriable politician but was honest, too honest.

I don't understand the hard core "go down with the ship" support of GW and hate for Pres Carter. I get denial, wanting to pretend its ok and misplaced party loyalty but get real.

Look one last thing about CARTER. He inherited the county from Nixon/Ford in 1977 with "Stagflation", double-digit inflation, suffering the effects the Vietnam War, and Watergate (Richard "I'm not a crook" Nixon), raging energy crisis and the Iran hostage thing, which was out of left field, much like 9/11; I feel sorry for him.

We all agree Carter's presidency was a disaster of the first order, but as a humanitarian post public office he's done good; he was just the wrong man for President. You can legitimately disagree with his stand on Israel. Just because he is not 100% pro green light go Israel's policies does not make him an anti-semite. No rational person thinks that. He wants peace with all his soul. Give him some credit.

I think Bush is also a nice guy btw, but a president?

As far as the Military Gent who was demoralized by Carter, sorry I don't understand. I was a kid in the 70's. It was tough times for every one in the late 70's.

Truth is CARTER increased military spending.

CARTER is credit with developed the United States Central Command (CENTCOM)under his admin, who is running the Iraq war today. Pres CARTER began the anti-Soviet military buildup generally attributed to his successor, Reagan.

What CARTER is know for, fair or not, is the energy crisis, poor economy and the Iran hostage crisis and failed rescue attempt. We should have learned our mid east oil dependence lesson in the 70's. We have done little about energy Independence. CARTER was in office only for 4 years.

What Carter screwed up was supporting brutal regimes and the hostage rescue that was a disaster. Even though he was not directly responsible for the rescue failure, he was the Commander in chief and must be take the blame. Hummmm reminds me....... Bush is responsible.

Carter was Anti-Iraq war! I guess he can say to us, I told you so? Hey I was all for the Iraq war because I believed the goverment. I believed WMD's, 9/11 connection, only 6 months at most, greeted as liberators, only a small force and cost will be needed. I'll not make that mistake again.

We must be united or we'll fall. Put your Dem / Carter hating away and join today's reality. God Bless America and her people. Merry Christmas.
