They believe that the “approval rating” of someone validates their personal animus irrespective of the policies or actions involved. They view it as the MOST IMPORTANT facet of political life. That is why they use it as often as they do — and why YOU are using it now.

It is also known as “governing by polling numbers,” and it is how Bill Clinton governed — and it is why NOTHING effective was done in his administration to STOP the Islamofascists from attacking us.

Jay Rockerfeller’s plan to sabotage the war for political gain was leaked to the press in October 2003. Democratic US Representative Jim McDermott went to Iraq on the eve of the war to express SOLIDARITY with our enemy.

With the assistence of their allies, the media, the Democrats undermined support for the war, lied about the anti-terrorist activities the government was undertaking, opposed all policies that would defeat “Al Qaeda in America,” including making our borders secure, AND now they enjoy “brotherly greetings” and solidarity from the very same enemy that has killed 6 thousand Americans since 2001.

One of the earlier responses to you pointed out that the rest of the world was anti-American well before President Bush, that there were many, many terrorist attacks against Americans and American interests before president Bush, and that there will be raging anti-Americanism well after President Bush is out of office.

So, claiming the world hates us b/c of Pres. Bush is foolish. Yes, no one is arguing that much of the world does not like Pres. Bush. So what? The only president those people would like is someone who refuses to pursue American interests or protect America. Does that mean we should stop protecting America, or America’s interests b/c the rest of the world hates America and always will? Indeed, which country’s “love” should we base all of your foreign policy decisions on?

Moreover, just b/c Bush has low approval ratings does not mean he is necessarily doing a bad job as President. For instance, Clinton had fairly high approval ratings, but my guess is that in about 20 years, he will be seen as an average at best president (quick, name one thing he did that will be remembered in 10 years). Meanwhile, Truman and Eisenhower both had lackluster polls while in office, but their status as good to great presidents continues to grow as the fruits of their policies are better understood years later. Thus, it is impossible to tell how history will treat GWB for many, many years. Current polling does nothing to tell us that. I happen to like some of his policies and dislike others. I support what he is trying to accomplish in Iraq, and in the War on Terror in general, and support the other steps he has taken to prevent another terrorist attack on American soil. I support his tax policies. I did not support his immigration plan, No child Left Behind, Medicare Plan B, or his signing of McCain-Fiengold. I do support his judicial appointments. So, as in all things, a mixed-bag.

As pointed out above, so what? Sometimes, leading means taking unpopular positions. I understand that liberals cannot understand this, as only feelings matter to liberals. Moreover, as pointed out above, I, and most thinking people, really don’t care what “people world wide” think. People are anti-American for a lot of reasons, and almost none of those reasons are what you believe them to be. Foreign nations and peoples want to pull America down in order to further their own interests (be it trade, military power, etc), not b/c of some wonderful altruism that only the “rest of the world” can come up with.

And, as I’ve tried to explain above, the “rest of the world’s” hatred of the U.S. is generally based in their own self-interest, which often conflicts with America’s interests. Why should we prize everyone else’s self-interest above our own? What country should we be trying to placate (as every other country’s interests do not align with each other, by placating one, we will be pissing of another) – Germany? France? Saudi Arabia? Russia? China? North Korea? Cuba?

Not one single country “hates” us b/c of Iraq. Instead, many countries see Iraq as a means of attacking us and making us look weak, or trying to achieve whatever ends they are looking for. Moreover, the idea that those peoples and/or countries would not hate us if we were “winning” in Iraq (according to your definition) is absurd.

I’m not so sure that is true. However, even assuming that it would be true, since when has trying to accomplish something great and noble (establishing democracy in Iraq) become so “evil” simply because it did not work (assuming, as you seem to, that Iraq is a lost cause)? Again, hindsight is 20/20. Everyone thought there were WMDs. Clinton said it in 1998, the UN said it, all the major dem leaders said it at one time or another between 1993 and 2002. All the intelligence agency’s believed it, and Saddam’s government acted like it had them. So, we acted on that belief. It was reasonable to do so.

Well, Carter did try to get the Communist USSR to help him in is re-election campaign, which is probable treasonous. He also has lied repeatedly since leaving office, and his new book is almost nothing but lies. So you are wrong. Iran Hostage crisis was not out of left field. Many of his own actions led to the revolution in Iran. And his handling of the matter was abysmal and made it go on much longer than it should have. Moreover, his own policies helped cause “stagflation” and he certainly did nothing good for America. However, it was a difficult time and if he was not so bad as an ex-president, he would simply be remembered as someone in over his head. Unfortunately, he has created his own legacy by showing his hatred for America in everything he says and does.

We all agree Carter’s presidency was a disaster of the first order, but as a humanitarian post public office he’s done good; he was just the wrong man for President. You can legitimately disagree with his stand on Israel. Just because he is not 100% pro green light go Israel’s policies does not make him an anti-semite. No rational person thinks that. He wants peace with all his soul. Give him some credit.

CARTER is credit with developed the United States Central Command (CENTCOM)under his admin, who is running the Iraq war today. Pres CARTER began the anti-Soviet military buildup generally attributed to his successor, Reagan.

What CARTER is know for, fair or not, is the energy crisis, poor economy and the Iran hostage crisis and failed rescue attempt. We should have learned our mid east oil dependence lesson in the 70′s. We have done little about energy Independence. CARTER was in office only for 4 years.

What Carter screwed up was supporting brutal regimes and the hostage rescue that was a disaster. Even though he was not directly responsible for the rescue failure, he was the Commander in chief and must be take the blame. Hummmm reminds me……. Bush is responsible.
